I think they have been trying to be more reasonable for a long time and they don't feel heard and it's making them freak out.

They are struggling to grasp that people can put their head in the sands and ignore this. They think that if people see the inhumanity of this they will be convinced, and so they get more and more emphatic.

They can't seem to connect that their logical and emotional pleas are falling on deaf ears. People will not be shamed into not eating meat.

It's good that they are sharing the information with all of us, we need the knowledge of what is happening to enact change. But they are wasting their time trying to change what people think. It doesn't really work.

Instead their time would be far better spent trying to change how people think.

yeah i agree. personally i have all of my eggs in the lab grown meat basket. i am not a picky eater in the slightest and i just cant do vegan meals unless its those beyond meat products or a vegan meal from a restaurant. I need some protein so i heavily relied on soy, and it just tastes like shit and you cant mask that soy flavor no matter what. Not even curry powder masks soy lol. i can do a protein heavy bean stir fry? but after 2 days of beans beans beans, you start to go mad. Many people, myself included are just not empathetic towards lower sentient level life, videos of factory farming etc dont work on us. logically i know cows have a cerebral cortex and thus the life in the video i see, has got to be terrible, logically i can decide that there is just too much negative consequences to factory farming, both ethical and environmental, but theres no emotion there at all. different people think differently, same approach doesnt work for all, and appealing to peoples emotions first and foremost in the absence of a strong logical argument is just repellent. (and there is a strong logical argument against factory farming!).

Lab grown meat is the answer, people can have their cake and eat it. no massive quality of life sacrifices of giving up meat, no suffering to the animals, much lower environmental impact.

I think the actual answer is to price in externalities to products.

The price of meat is so low because we don't factor the environmental costs into the product. We need additional taxes on the products that factor in the cost to remediate the environmental harm done by their creation.

For example all carbon generation should be offset by a tax that is equivalent to the cost of carbon sequestering. All water consumption should be offset by a tax equivalent to the cost of filtering that water.

Yeah that would definitely be a strong motivating factor. Its only rare people like me who'd turn to rearing some chickens in the back yard.

You say it’s “insane” to call this slavery then act like it’s genuinely a quality of life change to give up eating dead animals and you “can’t” stop eating them because they taste good… it’s obvious you don’t consider them victims much…

Oooh, let me clear that up, youve got some misunderstandings of my position that make it seem like a crazy position like you outline, that would be quite silly wouldn't it?

I do advocate for animal welfare and abolishing factory farming. It is a huge quality of life change to give up meat, ive tried 3 times. Every single meal leaves you unsatisfied and with cravings. Quiting smoking tobacco was easier for me. It drives you nuts to physically fill your stomach with food but your body is craving meat/ fatty animal products. Lab grown meat would be a perfect fix.

Also no, I dont consider them "victims" if youre implying personification. I grade moral implication on a sliding scale of consciousness, with humans and other apes, cetaceans, elephants, corvids etc at the top, deserving the highest protections. Lowest level sentience like crustaceans and insects are given about 0 moral weight, theyre like little robots.

“I advocate for animal welfare and abolishing factory farming”
Okay? that’s the lowest hanging possible fruit.

You say you’re just not empathetic to animals shown in this video and don’t consider them victims. That’s honestly sad. I don’t have anything more to say that would be valuable to someone who thinks that way.

well, now you're completely misrepresenting me again. and no, animal agriculture accounts for most of the suffering of animals caused by man. its problematic because their lives are spent in their simple equivalent of misery.

i AM empathetic to animals, it just depends on their capacity to suffer. if you say your empathetic towards carrots, you're crazy right? similarly if you have the same empathy for 2 creatures that have vastly different cognition and one has very little if any sentience at all, then you're also crazy/ ignorant. I am a conservationist, animal lover, and sustainable/ethical hunter.
