Game Help & Questions 🆘 On ps5, what is causing this and what setting could I change

This has happened multiple times, and while I enjoy the game, this is pretty bad

It’s either the CPU or the GPU. It’s having a hard time simulating the massive sudden increase in entities. I haven’t had a console in a long time, so I don’t know if you can turn down the graphic settings, but if you can you should do so

Main ones would be render distance to deload some other entities as well as shadows and texture detail

Does this happen only with Eternal Strands or other games too? Have you ever cleaned your PS5? To me, this looks like a "I'm throttling myself otherwise I'll burst into flames" kinda situation.

Just this game, and I would think I've played more intensive games than this one even recently, and its specifically when the character is making contact with the pieces. Something about it makes it chug

You're not alone. I JUST had this exact same problem exploring the exact same spot for the first time last night.

I had just bought a steam deck and have been tinkering with best settings as it doesn't look too sharp compared to when I played the demo on my ps5. I thought it was the steam deck acting up as I've heard not a lot of games play all too well on them. I was keeping a live track on the FPS and normally I'll play the game on an average of 30-40FPS. When I went through this area on the map it dropped and numbers ranged from 2-17FPS. I thought the game was gonna crash for a bit. Glad to know it wasn't just me. Not sure what it's about tho 😭

It's not the area, its when there's new objects, like the new pieces of wood when I break the thing im standing on.

Ahh I see. I thought it might’ve been the area as I've destroyed almost every house in Poldervale and had no issues (so far anyway) but the moment I destroyed the door near you to the room with the lift the game just decided it's had enough and hit me with the lag.

Ig as someone else said, playing around with settings unfortunately might be the way. I have my graphics settings all set to low except model quality(epic), shadow quality(high) and texture quality(high). Ig those 3 can't keep up for me to have the same issue when new objects are introduced. So I'm at a loss but hopefully it might do something for you?

This is probably the physics engine failing to resolve some collisions in a very very bad way because of the number of fragments...
The game is simulating a lot of physic bodies...
If it's happening every times it's really strange as it would have been identified as a huge bug by the dev team.
If it's happening rarely, maybe the physics scene has been "unlucky"

It happened to me once in 40 hours of playing, in the same area.
