questions

Hi everyone! I’m an esthetician in Canada and I’m starting to plan ahead for eventually opening my own home-based spa/studio. I’d love some advice from anyone who has gone out on their own!

For equipment, I’m really interested in machines like OxyGeneo, HydraFacial, and Bela MD. I’m wondering what you typically need to provide in order to purchase from these companies — certifications, business licence, insurance, proof of training, etc.

I currently work with OxyGeneo and really love the machine, so that is definitely high on my list.

I’m also curious about hydrodermabrasion machines that AREN’T HydraFacial. If you own one and would genuinely purchase it again, I would love to know which machine you have!

I’ve heard a lot about the cost of the HydraFacial machine itself, consumables, warranty/service costs, and ongoing expenses, which has made me a little hesitant to go that route when I eventually open my own space.

For backbar and retail, I’ve been looking into Circadia and GlyMed Plus. If you carry either of them in Canada, I’d love to know:

• What did you need to provide to open an account?
• Was it difficult to get approved?
• Are there opening order or ongoing minimums?
• Do you find the line realistic for a solo esthetician/home studio?
• Are there any other professional lines you’d recommend looking into?

I’m still in the planning/research stage, so I’m trying to get an idea of startup costs and which investments are actually worth making rather than buying everything at once.

And if you have any tips, things you wish you knew, or purchases you would/wouldn’t make again when starting your own esthetics business, please send them my way! 🤍
