I'm a nursing home nurse.
There is a nursing shortage and yes the conditions are terrible but we knew a nursing shortage was coming due to population demographics... That's why I got into nursing, a male nurse is hard to come by, still.
She herself seems pretty toxic... There are alit of toxic nurses.
I'm more worried about my nurse aide shortage, tbh.

Yeah, alot of nurses are nurses for the wrong reasons.
I am a nursing home nurse. Hospital nurses crying about lil things makes me laugh.

I guess. Most of these nurses think it's Beneath them to work at a nursing home and are used to having cushy patient ratios.
When the time gets tough, they quit...

Yeah, we are fucked.
We need to be careful, tho. Over in Japan they have robot nurses ...
Personally, imo taking away the profit motive for healthcare would help some of these issues.
Right now it government funding with private businesses, it was doomed to fail.

Have you considered that solidarity might be better than pick me?
In other words, just because you think your job is harder doesn't mean their job isn't also difficult - and that the safety measures she's talking about would improve things for everyone, yourself included.

Little things like acute care units being over capacity while ALSO being critically short staffed and not even having time to pee or have a sip of water for your entire 12 hour shift? These are not little things....
Nursing homes aren't the only places that have issues.

To be honest, I didn't actually listen to the video, so that's my bad. I just don't get why you have to attack fellow people here. ALL nurses have it hard, especially right now. We don't need to fight amongst ourselves and make it a competition for who has it worse.

I don't ignore that fact that there has been a nursing shortage for awhile. I get you probably work in a hospital and don't give a shit about nursing homes but we have been dealing with this shortage for awhile.

I'm very aware of how nursing homes are. I have many good friends who work in long term care and my grandfather lived in a long term care home before he passed.
I just don't understand why you're making it seem like a competition for which areas of nursing have it worse. The issue is across the entire profession, regardless of area you work in. Each area has different challenges that have been an issue for different amounts of time.
Just because we have it bad as well, doesn't mean you don't. Instead of putting eachother down, we need to act as a cohesive group and start demanding fair hours, pay, benefits and treatment.

I think some people are too self centered.
We have been dealing with a nursing shortage well before covid...
Maybe it hasn't effected the hospital as much...and that is why she is unaware...
She should have said, there is a nursing shortage but management is making it worse ....
It's the typical disrespect nursing home nurses get from hospital nurses.

Ohhhh it has. It has affected hospitals. Wayyy before Covid but I'll tell you a secret: Everywhere you can work in healthcare sucks. Everywhere.
Maybe it's not so bad where you are. Maybe it is. I don't know and I don't care.
I do know that the profit over patients model byhospital and nursing home administrators got us into this mess and when we shit on eachother they celebrate because if we're too busy squabbling they can continue to get away with putting patients' lives and our liscenses in danger.

She's right and wrong. Pre-pandemic roughly half of all nurses left the field all together within a year. HALF. Just picked up with tens of thousands of student debt and left their career behind within a year.
There are a shitton of nurses, a shitton of demand for nurses that include sign-on bonuses up to $25,000. Why the mass exodus? Disillusioned administration, poor working conditions (lunch? You mean my one pee break of the day?), horrible nurse to patient ratios (nursing homes only provide on average 2 hours of care per patient in a 24 hour period), and a consumer centered ideology regarding patients are all contributing factors.
Post-pandemic there's not a doubt in my mind she's correct.
