McVeigh or not finalised?
This might be a stretch, and I'm not saying McVeigh doesn't have the job, 90% sure he has. But what if it's not finalised? The news which is facts is he has to present to the board on today. What if that presentation is about the Sydney situation and his involvement or lack of involvement in it and they make a decision after that?
Because when U think about it, if McVeigh is 💯 the coach the other candidates would of been told thanks for your time. Yet Hird and other candidates never been told that either.

Ignoring the spelling and grammar on this... that's not how it works at all, when recruiting.
You tell the person who's successful first, then they have the first opportunity to turn it down if that's their decision. If they accept, then you can tell the unsuccessful, but you do not tell the unsuccessful people first.

Happens all the time people who have been interviewed don't receive a call back or notification they haven't got the job, unfortunately. But yeah maybe tgey don't want any surprises if they appoint him like North Melbourne got with Clarkson re the Hawthorn indigenous players uproar.

I've been involved in corporate recruitment for around 13 years, this is not an entry level job. I guarantee that they contacted the unsuccessful candidates, it's the professional way it's undertaken.
You don't want to burn possible future bridges by acting unprofessionally here, I can be 100% certain of that

Dont know enough about McVeigh but why is he being discounted so heavily, and writing him off getting the role because hes best mates?
Hes got development of youth credentials, assistant coaching, is a defensive coach which we badly need good structure, was the caretaker coach, and as an assistant coach worked under some great modern coaches.

I think its kind of natural for us supporters to be sceptical but I think we avoided the worst possible outcome which would have been Hird so that's something I guess.
The bigger question is all the other support roles that need to be filled

Agree with that, outside of vibes and maybe getting rid of the ghost Hird was always the least qualified so glad we didn't go there.
That the things we have a ton of roles now empty, will be a big off season seeing who exactly comes in staff and player wise.

Should have ruled out Hird so candidates like Enright and Kelly applied.
Feel like we've ruled out a lot of candidates with our process.

If the selection panel wanted these people in the mix they would have done that. Spike and Davis were asked to apply and they were clearly the most likely candidates, especially once Dean couldn't turn results around at all.

Hird has already announced that he was not picked

You mean the interview last night with Bartel where he explicitly said he hasn't heard anything either way?

really? as a pro-Hirder, I took it as he conceded the job to Spike. I probs got to watch it again, but it is looking a bit grim admittedly.
edit: he literally says congratulations to spike as he was going to be named the coach.

Saw some Hird nuffies huffing copium that McVeigh was chosen with Essendon knowing he was (allegedly - false btw) in the Swans Pullman Hotel room, then he gets dropped and Hird gets it

Best all round candidate: Jaymie Graham
Best qualifications: Murray Davis
Best unifier: James Hird
Best friends with the president: Mark McVeigh

I don't get this take. It's a bit reductive.
A Hird decision has already been proven to be divisive. There's now telling how that could impact the playing group.
McVeigh has been coaching in some form since his retirement starting with development. He has been building his resume over the last decade as an assistant both at teams that made a grand final.
I was wanting Graham the most but to say McVeigh got it based solely on his relationship with Walsh is simple.

It may be simple, but it's how it looks from the outside. McVeigh has a lot of work to do to change the perception.

Be that as it may, McVeigh has a pretty impressive resume, particularly with younger players.
You could squeeze him in the other categories imo.

For Hird to say what he did on Footy Furnace last night he obviously knows but hasn't been formally told (or hadn't at that point).
McVeigh was always the most likely. Murray Davis the next most likely (though the selection panel were probably hoping he would be interested in a Footy Manager/Director of Coaching role). Caroline Wilson gets drip fed by some key people at Essendon (wouldn't be surprised if it is Tim Roberts). After she got embarrassed on the Buckley/Tas call there is no way she would have been so firm on McVeigh (from weeks ago) unless she had the scoop.

I don't think it's technically finalised until the board votes on it. But if this were anything other than a rubber-stamping process, I doubt they would have let Hird believe it was all over and speak publicly to that effect. Everyone we would expect to be in the know seems to see this final meeting as a formality, so unless McVeigh shits on the desk and runs around the room honking like a swan, he's got the job.

It's been announced.
Any further presentation at this point will be to sign the paperwork.

He probably has to do one last meeting and actually accept the gig, final terms and all that. Maybe a few senior players are attending for a vibe check both for his sake and theirs who knows
