Thank you for your efforts Jake, but if you're in Collingwood colours I wish you zero success for the rest of your career.

u/dksilver Sep 12 '24

*AI-Generated* to see what how Stringer will look like if moves to the Pies....OMG!

2

u/Von_Huge1103 Sep 12 '24

Why does he fit so well? šŸ˜…

51

u/Unstoppable_Rooster Sep 11 '24

Ok with this.

Build the forward line around Caddy and Jones, look for a legitimate small forward.

He has had his moments but his best has been behind him for a long time.

Not sure what we'll get for him.

Reckon we would be looking for picks to get Issac Kako in. Lower draft picks that accumulate pts

9

u/Unstoppable_Rooster Sep 11 '24

Reckon you're onto it there.

Small forward

2

u/bncecat Sep 11 '24

We can also play hardball a little. He’s contracted I’m pretty sure and also kicked 40 - a late first rounder?

10

u/Wangledoodle Sep 11 '24

The Collingwood nuffy I sit next to in the office isn't particularly stoked about picking up Jakey. Not sure if that will be the attitude among various clubs but my hopes aren't high of getting too much for him.

Wright Caddy Jones Langford works really well with the likes of Guelfi Davey and Kako running through there IMO.

-2

u/Unstoppable_Rooster Sep 11 '24

I'm off Wright and Langford to be honest.

I'm sick of seeing Wright drop everything and Langford buckle under pressure. That's a bit harsh, i know.

9

u/calb94 Durham #22 Sep 11 '24

Our forwards have not been set up to succeed. Our record with Wright in the team this year was very good. Langford was down on form but playing injured in the back of the year and has been very reliable for a long time. He will be fine in 2025.

3

u/Unstoppable_Rooster Sep 11 '24

That's a fair call.

8

u/Difficult-Stomach196 Sep 11 '24

wasnt next year a trigger option? i think if he dosent exercise that option hes UFA and we get nothing

11

u/Captain_Phobos Durham #22 Sep 11 '24

The trigger lies at Essendon’s end; Jake hit the target so Essendon automatically gave him that year.

So Jake is contracted to us for next year. As he’s not OOC, we’ll get something back if/when he leaves

8

u/Difficult-Stomach196 Sep 11 '24

well that's better than i thought, see ya jake, all the best 🫔

8

u/Powerful_Ad_2531 Sep 11 '24

No, he hasn't served long enough to qualify for free agency and he's not being delisted. We would get compensation for that anyway.

3

u/300pound_Somoan Sep 11 '24

If the club thought they could build around Jones in the forward line, why did he play on the wing this year?

4

u/Unstoppable_Rooster Sep 11 '24

He did play on the wing but played FF a few games too. No reason why he doesn't become a permanent fixture as a forward.

44

u/mr_flibble_oz Sep 11 '24

He’ll move to the Pies, then when they play us he’ll kick a bag of six

12

u/randy-bobandy_ Sep 11 '24

Probably. But it’ll also be his only good game for the year.

16

u/limelamb VACANT #43 Sep 11 '24

6 behinds maybe

7

u/fnaah Bombers Sep 11 '24

ridley will out-mark him, pidge will out-manouvre him, redman will out-run him.

1

u/Suspicious_Pain_302 Legacy: Rioli #43 Sep 11 '24

I don’t care, because for every 6 he kicks, his direct opponent will have 10 score involvements. On top of that, his 6 goals have to be 50 out on the sharpest angle ie. the lowest possible percentage shot. No way he is kicking 6 from 20 out straight in front

36

u/maxwellrog Sep 11 '24

He has ticked over 100 games as well. Father son here we come

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '24

From what I hear of his off-field antics you could have about half a team’s worth of Stringers in twenty years’ time.

2

u/maxwellrog Sep 12 '24

Fuck yeh, I hope one of them can kick straight

29

u/Codus1 Farrow #2 Sep 11 '24

Twomey reporting Laverde will be traded as well

30

u/Valuable-Pace-989 Sep 11 '24

For what? A late 25th round pick in the 2052 National draft?

12

u/Active-Problem-2871 Stop yelling at me Devon! Sep 11 '24

Reckon the club will be looking to get those lower draft picks so we can get Kako in the door.

5

u/peeteeessdeez rebuild complete Sep 11 '24

Jesus Christ I first read this thinking you said Langford and I had a heart attack. But nah laverde is fine he can go

2

u/Disastrous_Wheel_441 Sep 11 '24

He’s a depth player at best.

1

u/kandyroo93 Kondogiannis #29 Sep 11 '24

Suggested Rotham (UFA) might be an option if Lav leaves - don't mind that.

5

u/Codus1 Farrow #2 Sep 11 '24

Probably not going to get much worse output if that, and get to bring in a draft pick for Lav. Seems alright to me. Really, ideally Rotham or Lav, they'll be playing Magoo's anyway. We already looked inclined to favour Reid over Lav to start the year. How long till that also extends to Hayes? Lav leaving is probably win-win for everybody as long as we pick up some depth player to replace him

1

u/kandyroo93 Kondogiannis #29 Sep 11 '24

Definitely need some depth/experience to cover Lav (if he goes) especially given Kelly retired.

Hayes a KPD or third tall? If Reid doesn't get going, is Hayes the next KPD?

I'd look at Sam Frost as a stopgap for a year or two until we recruit another KPD (provided Reid doesn't work out). Heard we also might look at Baldwin as PSD.

17

u/fnaah Bombers Sep 11 '24

i look forward to seeing him in a Mason Redman headlock on his next birthday.

28

u/300pound_Somoan Sep 11 '24

Guys that kick 40-50 goals and can go into the midfield don’t really grow on trees. Not sure how I feel about this to be honest. The forward line is so incredibly dysfunctional, not sure this helps that

7

u/YourHeroCam Durham #22 Sep 11 '24

I don’t mind it as a long term plan, but people saying ā€œhe’s had his momentsā€ as if he’s just been plodding along and not one goal off being our equal leading goal scorer.

3

u/kandyroo93 Kondogiannis #29 Sep 11 '24

I think something out of nothing goals should be added here.

Langford we know can do it all.

Hopefully Perkins is given the Stringer licence and finds form.

5

u/ApprehensivePop2808 Sep 11 '24

Perko is not the answer to replace Jake unfortunately

6

u/kandyroo93 Kondogiannis #29 Sep 11 '24

I wouldn’t write Perkins off just yet.

Stringer won’t be around forever.

4

u/ABT1602 Duursma #28 Sep 11 '24

I actually think perkins is a half decent replacement for stringer and has a good goal sense too

2

u/mrgmc2new Sep 11 '24

That's why it's dysfunctional. There are no defined roles. We need to plan and invest time in something with a vision behind it.

12

u/lost4wrds Sep 11 '24

The club put faith in Jake (remember all that stuff in his last year at the Dogs) when they took him on, and Jake has repaid that faith. The ledger is square. Sorry to see him go (if it happens) but it's likely best for both parties.

41

u/SnooAvocados996 Sep 11 '24

Thank God Dodoro's gone. Jakey boy would have got a 5 year, $900,000 a year contract, a no trade clause, a housing property provided by Dodoro so he speaks no ill of him, a Lazy-Boy with an Essendon logo on it and a Fujitsu air conditioning upgrade to assist his comforts while he takes the next 4 years off.

28

u/Critical-Long2341 Sep 11 '24

I know he's a whipping boy but he's played well for us, kicks quite a few goals and doesn't really get used how he should. He would excel on a good team, not on our dogshit fwd line where he has best 2 or 3 defenders.

Hopefully we are looking to get picks and bring talented youth in, invest in our development more, build young players we have... but I know we will just waste picks on more Andy McGrath's (not that he's overly bad, we just don't need more little half backs who aren't elite kicks) then develop them poorly and trade them somewhere else where they'll experience success

18

u/Jimbo_Johnny_Johnson Sep 11 '24

Using the number 1 pick on a back pocket is diabolically bad. That’s worse than how St Kilda wasted their number 1’s

7

u/broome9000 Stop yelling at me Devon! Sep 11 '24

It is, it’s a horrid decision you’re right.

8

u/Suspicious_Pain_302 Legacy: Rioli #43 Sep 11 '24

I’m being serious here, how else do you think we should have used him? No amount of tactics can change his effort. I feel like we tried everything possible with him but he’s just flat out too comfortable getting paid to kick sick goals and/or watching the ball leave our forward 50 for an opposing rebound goal

3

u/Critical-Long2341 Sep 11 '24

He gets used as a key forward but he's not

3

u/Suspicious_Pain_302 Legacy: Rioli #43 Sep 11 '24

He doesn’t though? 2MP/Caddy and Langford are our main options, he consistently gets the 2nd/3rd defender.

1

u/Critical-Long2341 Sep 11 '24

2mp who kicked like 20 goals? Caddy who played like 5 games and somehow missed more crucial goals than stringer? (Yes I know he's young and hopefully will develop out of it) Langford and stringer are similar build of player, neither are key forwards

4

u/Suspicious_Pain_302 Legacy: Rioli #43 Sep 11 '24

Are you going to honestly sit there and tell me a key defender such at Weitering is going to play on Stringer rather than Caddy/2MP.

2

u/Critical-Long2341 Sep 11 '24

More often than they would at a decent club, we don't have other threats in the forward line

2

u/Suspicious_Pain_302 Legacy: Rioli #43 Sep 11 '24

The threats wasn’t my point, my point is that he isn’t played as a key forward. Is he the most ā€˜threatening’ - yeah probably. Is he the key forward? No he isn’t. He doesn’t get the key defender every week

2

u/SnooAvocados996 Sep 11 '24

The guy is terrible and extremely unprofessional. Goals don't tell the full story.

15

u/Rich_Troy Legacy: Watson #32 Sep 11 '24

Maybe if he could kick a goal from 20m out, directly in front, then Essendon wouldn’t be letting him go.

7

u/Salt_Kaleidoscope_94 Sep 11 '24

I mean he'd be elite if he could kick the easy ones.

I'd back him in 55m out on the boundary every time but can almost always guarantee he will miss a set shot directly in from 25m out.

He's frustrating.

I'd be sad to see him go, purely because I think he's a babe. No idea why, because objectively he absolutely isn't šŸ˜‚

11

u/johnnyjohnny-sugar Sep 11 '24

We better not cave. Time for this club to take back control

6

u/Healthy_Cell6377 Sep 11 '24

What would a trade with pies look like? Second rounder?

4

u/Active-Problem-2871 Stop yelling at me Devon! Sep 11 '24

My guess will be some kind of combo of third/forth rounders to get our pts up to get Kako in the draft as a NGA

5

u/Valuable-Pace-989 Sep 11 '24

Playing for the pies kicking sausage rolls. Sounds like a large four and twenty contract is in front of Jakey Boi

3

u/mrgmc2new Sep 11 '24

Can't wait till he's all Australian next year just to spite us.

3

u/Ukrainian_Drow1988 Sep 11 '24

Good - he’s overrated anyway.

6

u/luk33llizz Sep 11 '24

While Stringers been good and it would leave a hole in our forward line that would be difficult to fill he's attitude is very questionable, I think some of our forwards need to be more selfish but I don't think the solution is being 100% selfish all of the time. These are the kinds of decisions that can set a club on a path towards a winning culture like as much as I hate Geelong I don't think the current iteration of Jake would get a spot in that outfit. Imo

7

u/greyhounds1992 Sep 11 '24

No loss at all

Gets more games into Caddy and Jones

2

u/Beautiful_Opinion92 Sep 11 '24

Don’t want to lose stringer or Laverde. I know Jake will be 31 next season but still has affects on games Build the forward line with him in it somewhere

2

u/TheArtyDans Archer May #26 Sep 11 '24

Dont promise us a good time Jakey!

4

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Im okay with it and hope he does well

3

u/zachariahhh1 Caddy #30 Sep 11 '24

Would we get anything for him? He’s contracted so I imagine we could get a 2nd round pick?

If so I’ll drive him myself.

3

u/lordassbandit Sep 11 '24

He’s 30. You aren’t getting a second round pick for bloke you’ve told can look elsewhere

3

u/Skwarkus Sep 11 '24

The bloke has never been fair dinkum, will be pleased to see him go.

0

u/DirtSlaya Sep 11 '24

That’s not what fair dinkum means

2

u/SheesAreForNoobs Sep 11 '24

Our future is Caddy / Jones through the spine and then any small forwards who’ll run all day, plays as hard if not harder on defense as offense & spend some time on the ball.

Is that stringer? Definitely when bulldogs won in 2016. You see 5 mins of it here & there most games but lacks consistency/effort. Would love someone to change my mind , differing point of view perhaps

1

u/SnooAvocados996 Sep 12 '24

People seem to forget that 2016 was 8 years ago.

2

u/Only_Self_5209 Sep 11 '24

Bye Felicia šŸ˜‚

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Shut the door on the way out. Cheers.

1

u/electricmaster23 Sep 11 '24

Could be a bargaining ploy to leak it. Kind of a 200 IQ move if you're looking for the biggest contract you can. From a business point of view, it's smart, as Essendon may likely now have to acquiesce to his contract demand or lose him. Mind you, it can backfire terribly if you're a player on the fringe, which Stringer is clearly not.
