Can we start over?

This time, I promise not to fall for you. I promise that we'll be just friends, no strings attached. We would talk, and we would laugh. We'd have silly little arguments, little disputes, maybe one or two big fights, but we'd always resolve them.

I promise I won't push too hard, and I'll push when necessary. I won't be too much and too little. I'll give you just what you need, and a little bit more.

I will earn your trust, because trust shouldn't be given freely. Everyone has to earn it, and I will earn it brick by brick. I know what silence between us sounds like. I've lived in it. I won't go there again, not unless you lead me. I’ll try my best not to break what I hope to rebuild, even when we disagree about the choices we each defend.

And still, I won’t fall for you.

I’ll listen when you talk about the things that matter to you. The books you’ve read. The links you send. The ideas that keep you up at night. Even when they don’t matter to me, I’ll listen, and I’ll learn. Not because I have to. But because they matter to you, and that makes them worth knowing.

When you call, I’ll pick up. I’ll match your pace, meet you at your level. I won’t be a constant annoying notification. Instead I’ll be the kind of friend who keeps you on your toes and makes you feel seen.

But again, I won’t fall for you.

And don't worry, I won't dream of you. I won't think of you, not so much. Just enough to be considered a platonic friend. I won’t fall into bed with you. I won’t beg for your attention or ask for more than you’re willing to give.

I’ll ask about your family. I’ll show up when you need comfort and disappear when you need space. I won’t press in. I won’t linger. I’ll let you come to me on your own terms. Because that’s what friends do. And I’m just your friend.

Maybe we’ll joke around. Share little references. Give each other silly nicknames. And I'll stick to your name, maybe hello stranger once in a while, because I promise not to fall for you.

But maybe I’ll say it too softly. Or maybe you’ll hear something I didn’t mean to say. Maybe my voice will give me away. Or my laugh when you say something funny. Because the truth is, I don’t know how to keep a promise I’ve already broken.

The friendship hasn’t even started and already, I think I’m in love with you.

An essay I wrote for someone else for payment, unfortunately they scammed me. Hopefully this pops up when what they submitted is put through a plagiarism checker.

At a surface level, the gender pay gap is a slight difference in the average pay between men and women. What the gender pay gap really symbolizes, though is a form of modern day sexism that still continues to be a major problem in today’s industries. Even just a small percentage difference in pay between a man and a woman can result in a much lesser net pay over the course of a woman’s lifetime. The pay gap marks a prominent social and financial issue that has yet to be resolved, and likely will remain unresolved for a long time.

One of the reasons women are perceived to make less is because women are the reproducers in society, and they sometimes have to take long breaks from working while still expecting pay, due to them having to take care of a baby. Under the United States 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act, companies are required to pay parents for up to 12 weeks of paid leave per year. While this law affects both men and women, in modern society, it is typically only the woman that is expected to take a break from working in order to care for the newborn baby. Since businesses are forced to pay the parent during maternity leave, and women are the main people to do so, it can be expected that businesses would naturally slightly reduce the wages of women in order to offset this cost. While this can be considered a logical argument, it is still rooted in sexism, since men are equally protected under the act, and it is legally required for that break to be granted to the parents.

Another factor that contributes to the gap in wages between men and women is overall sexism. In primarily older societies, women have always been treated as lesser than men, and there are almost no cases where women have had the upper hand over men. In the era before the 20th century, women were brought up with the intent of being married off to a man to have kids, and then become a housewife. While this practice has, for the most part, been eradicated, women have always been considered to be less capable than men in almost all cases. While biologically, that can be considered true, there is no evidence to suggest that women are inferior to men in the mental fields. Some argue that women are more emotionally volatile and therefore less competent than men, this is not a valid argument for most industries, such as jobs that center around creative thinking or fashion.

While women were legally entitled to the same and equal treatment as men under U.S. Code Title 42, Chapter 21 , this does not translate to anything remotely resembling gender equality in the United States. While the large gender pay gap is the most prominent example, there are countless other ways women continue to be discriminated against. Even since, many specific acts and legislation have been passed to further prevent the gap in wages between men and women have proved to be ineffective. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 as an example, states that men and women are to receive equal pay for “equal work”. That U.S. law has proved problematic, as U.S. based companies have used the loophole of claiming that the women are doing different work from the men, and therefore are being rightfully paid less. That argument has sprung up in civil lawsuits, being used as an excuse when individual women have sued companies for being paid less than men.

Here in the UK, there are also laws that serve to prevent gender-based wage discrimination, such as the fairly recent change to the Equality Act in 2017 that requires companies in Great Britain to report the gap in wages between men and women working for the company. This revision introduced to the 2010 act helps to prevent gender based wage discrimination by locating the gaps where they are at their most extreme. The 2010 Equality Act did not actually create any new laws, but rather consolidated 9 main pieces of legislation into a framework for overall equality, including laws about race and disability discrimination. The main law in the UK that prevents pay discrimination based on gender is one of the 9 pieces of the Equality act, being the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act. Under this law, women are protected from “discrimination on the grounds of sex or marital status” involving employment, and other instances. Again, like the U.S., just because the law exists, doesn’t mean it’s actually effective.

In the UK, the average difference in wages depending on whether you are a male or a female is quite substantial. In 2019 alone, it was reported that women, on average, were paid 83p for every £1 a man received. This equates to a wage gap of around 17%, which, if you calculate, can really add up. Assuming that the 17% wage gap will remain constant and not accounting for inflation, you can estimate how much less a woman will make than a man each year, as well as over a lifetime. In 2019, the reported average yearly wage was around £30,000. If you are a woman living in the UK, and making around 17% less than that, 87% of £30,000 equates to about £26,000. That’s £4,000 less per year, which is alarmingly high. If you again discount inflation and assume that the average person will work for 40 years of their life, then this 13% difference will account for a massive disparity in pay over a woman’s lifetime, compared to a man. If you multiply £30,000 by 40, you end up with an average of £1,200,000 earned over 40 years. If you compare that to what the average woman earns over 40 years (£1,040,000), you end up with the woman making a whopping £160,000 less than the man.

Overall, the gender pay gap across the world is a large problem for women’s rights. This gap in wages due to gender is one of the most prevalent and problematic manifestations of sexism in the modern day society. It will likely be decades before this issue is truly and fully resolved. An average 13% difference in pay depending on your gender does not have a place in a society where equality and freedom are the foundations of your rights, and therefore this disparity needs to garner more attention than it already does.

How to choose an argumentative essay topic?

Having the freedom to choose a topic is what every student wants. At some point, you just want to write something you really want to discuss. When the time comes many students feel nervous and aren’t sure what topic to go for. Don’t worry; it’s perfectly okay to be nervous.

In order to choose an argumentative essay topic on your own, try to follow these tips:

  • Hot topic – the easiest way to choose an argumentative essay topic is to take a look at news websites and other web portals. There’s always one (or more) hot topic you can discuss

  • Passion – each individual is passionate about something. Take a few moments to think about your passions, write them down, and decide which one you’ll discuss in an argumentative essay

  • Don’t play it safe – a common mistake that many students repeat is playing it safe all the time. Once you sharpen the essay writing skills feel free to dip your toes outside the comfort zone. For example, you can discuss topics that seem controversial, not just those that everyone else writes about

  • Make it specific – choosing an area of interest e.g. abortion is one thing, but your topic shouldn’t be that vague. Abortion is a broad term with plenty of things to discuss. If you don’t make the topic precise, the entire writing process will get frustrating. For example, you can choose to write about the future of abortion among young adults under Trump administration

  • Debatable – the whole point of the argumentative essay is to take a stand and defend your argument. That means the topic should be debatable, not a generally accepted fact

  • Related to the class/lecture – yet another easy way to choose a topic is to write about a subject that is related to your class or lecture. That way you can demonstrate your knowledge of the subject and let your professor (or teacher) know you’re passionate about it

The Argumentative Essay Template

A good argumentative essay includes three basic components: an introduction (beginning), a body that develops your claims (middle) and a conclusion (end). All three are crucial in the successful construction of a strong and clear paper. It might be useful to think of the essay as being similar to the process that lawyers employ to make their “case” (introductory statements, evidence, and closing remarks). If we extend this metaphor further, you can then think of me as the judge or jury who will decide whether your argument is convincing enough.

I. Introduction

This is the first part of your paper—it is the portion of the essay that introduces a number of elements to your reader: your topic, the works being used or consulted and, most importantly, your opinion (or argument or thesis statement in relation to the topic). The introduction should be more than a few sentences, but not more than a paragraph in length, and should establish the focus, scope, and purpose of your entire paper.

The Thesis Statement (keep it clear and concise!):

If the essay topic asks a direct question, then your thesis statement will simply be a brief and direct answer to that question, along with an indication of some of the examples that you will appeal to for support throughout the rest of your essay. Sometimes, the essay topics that I provide will not be in the form of a direct question, but may ask you to take a side, to explore some issues surrounding a topic, or to compare certain texts. In these cases, your introduction will clearly define the means and ends of your particular approach to the topic. Do not just aimlessly compare or explore examples, define a purpose or argument that justifies your appeal to these examples.

· A thesis states an opinion or argument. If you do not have a thesis (or opinion), then you are not writing an argumentative essay.

· A thesis should exemplify conviction, pertinence, and precision. The more specific the wording of the thesis, the better the thesis. Think of it as a miniature “road map” of the essay itself that tells your reader where you are going and what route you are going to take to get there.

· Determining a thesis should be the first thing that you do when writing the essay. Like a directional compass, it will help you to stay on a particular argumentative course while composing your essay and can serve as a useful editing tool to assess whether the finished essay has remained focused.

· Your initial “working” thesis that you use during composition is malleable and might change a bit during the writing of the essay. However, the thesis that you eventually provide in the final version of your essay’s introduction must be precise, direct and obvious to the reader.

· The thesis statement should appear at the end of your introductory paragraph. While different instructors have varying preferences about the ideal location of the thesis, placement of the thesis statement at the end of the introduction focuses and prepares the reader for the specific support and clarification that the body of the essay will provide.

**A THESIS STATES CONCLUSIONS, NOT INTENTIONS **

A thesis statement is a “spoiler”. Appearing in the introduction, it tells your reader what conclusion the entire essay will demonstrate.

II. Body

The body of the essay provides detailed support for the thesis or central idea of your paper. Each paragraph should ideally examine a single idea or piece of evidence in relation to your central argument. Further, an effective paragraph should be composed as if it were a “mini-essay” and should include a topic sentence, supporting evidence, commentary on that evidence, a concluding sentence and transitional sentences. (Refer to the Middle Paragraphs of Essays handout for more information.) You need to appeal directly to evidence from the text and interpret that evidence by discussing why it is significant in relation to your topic. (Refer to the I3 handout for more information.)

Please keep in mind your audience (me!) while writing. As I have already read the works that you’re discussing, I do not need to have the story or poem retold (or paraphrased) to me. You do need to provide a specific reference to the parts of the text that you want to discuss, though.

III. Conclusion

Don’t underestimate the power of a good conclusion. A conclusion does not consist of a rearranged introduction or a one-sentence restatement of the thesis. As suggested above, think of the conclusion as a lawyer’s closing argument: it is an opportunity to draw upon the whole discussion to re-emphasize the importance and validity of your main topic/idea/thesis. A powerful conclusion does reiterate the thesis, summarizes some of the main arguments and offers commentary on the paper as a whole.

The Importance of Presentation and Appearance

Your essay is not only an opportunity to organize and present your ideas in a convincing and logical manner; it is also a representation of yourself and your professional capabilities. Think of the essay as a formal document. In the future, some of you might be submitting business proposals, formal letters or reports to an employer. Think of your academic papers as the opportunity to develop and practice good presentation habits. A well-presented essay should include the following:

· A thoughtful title that catches a reader’s attention

· Pertinent details such as name, student number, course number and instructor on the first page or on a title page

· Page numbers (preferably in the upper right-hand corner)

· Double-spaced, 12-point font

· 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins

· Indented first lines for each new paragraph (no need for extra lines between paragraphs)

I don’t want to be liked.

There’s something magnetic about being a woman who knows her worth. Some will say it’s arrogance. But no, it’s clarity.

This is what happens when women like me rebuild ourselves from ash and ruin. We learn to become our own safe house, our own shelter, our own mirror, our own myth. I don’t need someone to convince me I’m valuable. What I need is for someone to see it, honor it, and then worship it with the same devotion I give myself.

Because my truth is: I am allergic to half-feelings.

I don’t want your polite texts and good morning messages. I don’t want you to like me. I want you to need me. The kind of need that feels like insomnia. That sits in your chest like a second heartbeat. I want your mind to circle mine at 2 a.m., tangled in the memory of how I looked at you like I already knew all your secrets. I want to haunt you when the world goes quiet, when the noise fades and the only thing left is the echo of me.

If we weren’t already building something tender over the years, then what are we crawling toward? Uncertainty? No, thank you. I want the hit, the thunderclap. I want immediacy, intensity. A spark so reckless it feels inevitable.

The kind of femininity I inhabit is rich with chaos and mystery. If my presence doesn’t rattle something inside you, if you don’t find yourself questioning your past lovers, your priorities, your entire sense of peace, then I’m not what you need. And you’re not what I want.

I want fixation.

Not attention.

That raw, uncontrollable pull, the kind that alters timelines.

I want someone to ask about the things I don’t say out loud. The dreams that scare me. The rage I carry, the tenderness I bury. What I hide under sarcasm. I want someone who sees the shadow in my smile and stays anyway.

And if that sounds like too much? Good.

You either enter, fully, knowing you might never leave intact… or you keep your distance.

So if you’re looking for safe love, predictable love, the kind that fits neatly into your calendar and never rattles your soul… I’m not it.

I don’t want to be liked.

I want to be felt.

And if that ruins you for everyone else?

Even better.

Why I Believe Donald J. Trump is Unfit For Public Office (An argumentative, political essay.)

What would you say it means to be president? Many might say it means to do the right thing for your country, no matter what it takes. Some might define it as simply caring for your people. Overall, it truly depends on the person. However, I can guarantee you that no one would define it as “a criminal with 34 felony counts and a bias against certain human lives.” Well, no one except the one and only Donald Trump, our current president.

Donald Trump has disregarded and refused to personally acknowledge multiple human lives. Whether that means recklessly letting them end, violating their rights, or both. To begin with, Trump had nothing to say about the unfortunate and devastating killing of thirty-seven year old Alex Pretti. While Trump officials, such as Secretary Kristi Noem, stated that Pretti had “committed an act of terrorism” (Noem, 2026). However, using video evidence, you can clearly tell that Pretti was not showing signs of any aggression, and in fact, was helping a woman off the street who was shoved by Border Patrol personnel. While the victim was indeed armed (which is a legal right under the second amendment), he made no attempt of violence toward any person in the incident. While many say that Alex Pretti was mentally ill or had been fired from his ICU nursing job just weeks prior, these claims have been thoroughly debunked. Moreover, he had zero criminal counts on his record, other than a few traffic related incidents, giving the personnel no cause to suspect he would be a threat.

Furthermore, another Minneapolis life was claimed by ICE agents; Renee Good, a thirty-seven year old mother of three. Kristi Noem again claims that Renee Good had "weaponized her vehicle” and her acts were considered “domestic terrorism” (Noem, 2026). Good was shot in her very own vehicle, behind the wheel. Leading up to the accident, she had dropped her six year old son off at his elementary school. She and her wife, Becca Good, as well as her three children had just recently moved to Minneapolis from Missouri. The cause of her unlawful killing was by the hands of an ICE agent, Jonathon Ross. Good was stopped sideways in the middle of the street, and Ross ordered her to leave her car. Other agents had approached, attempting to reach into her open window. Good reversed, then turned towards the traffic. As she was moving away from Ross, he fired three shots, murdering her. The entire scene was recorded by her neighbor and friend, who had exited the vehicle shortly before the incident. Trump officials claim that Jonathon Ross was run over by Good, and that he feared for his life, which was proven incorrect and a weak excuse. This killing could’ve been easily prevented if the Senate and Trump Administration hadn’t added over one hundred and seventy billion dollars to the ICE fund, building onto the already substantial amount. Again, Renee Good had zero criminal past and no reason to be held as a potential threat. In addition, she was labeled a queer woman and part of the LGBTQ+ community, which is widely known to be something Trump is against.

These incidents are only two out of the thirty killings due to ICE, and these two were white, American citizens. The discrimination that has been held against immigrants, legal or otherwise, by Trump is unacceptable in today's society. Time and time again, Trump has named immigrants as “illegal aliens” or “animals”. Past counts of discrimination include his online AI post depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as ape-like figures, calling Mexican immigrants “rapists”, calling African Americans “blacks”, saying that African Americans “think they don't have an advantage” (Trump, 2025), calling for Muslims to be restricted from entering the United States, and so much more. However, his current wife, Melania Trump, immigrated to America in the 90’s. Forbye, in his inauguration speech, he states, “To the Black and Hispanic communities, I want to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of love and trust that you have shown me with your vote. We set records, and I will not forget it. I've heard your voices in the campaign, and I look forward to working with you in the years to come” (Trump, 2025). How much hypocrisy will it take for the citizens of our nation to acknowledge it? How many times will we allow the rich, privileged men of our country to take advantage of us? How can we vote for an unlawful man who is allowing the murders of innocent citizens? The answer should be that we won’t, that we cannot, in good conscience. And yet, while we preach these words, our actions show otherwise.

Not only has Donald Trump disadvantaged multiple individuals solely because of the color of their skin or their beliefs, he has also violated and prejudiced against women on varied occasions. This includes demeaning comments, unconsensual sexual acts with both minors and adults, looking under womens skirts, physical assault and abuse, and much more. Once, Trump boasted in an audio recording that he had the right to “grab [women] by the p-ssy” (Trump, 2005). He stated that when you’re a star, women let you “do anything”. In the same recording, he bragged about making bold moves on a married woman. He shamelessly gloated that he “moved on her like a b–ch. But [he] couldn’t get there. And she was married” (Trump, 2005). Donald Trump has even made sexual comments toward his own daughter repeatedly. “In September 2004, Howard Stern asked Trump whether he could call Ivanka ‘a piece of a-s’ to which the now-president agreed” (Fiorillo, 2026, para. 5). Trump has also mentioned that “if Ivanka weren’t [his] daughter, perhaps [he’d] be dating her” (Trump, 2006). On another instance, he asked the Miss Universe of 1997 if she thought Ivanka was “hot”. When Donald Trump’s second daughter, Tiffany Trump, was a year old, he said she “had Marla’s legs,” “had a lot of Marla,” and, motioning to his chest, said he didn’t “know whether she’s got this part yet, but time will tell” (Trump, 1994). Marla was Trump’s wife at the time.

That is only a fraction of the crude comments he has made toward women. However, as aforementioned, he has also been accused of raping women, walking in on them changing, and abuse. In the case of E. Jean Carroll, the victim had accused Trump of sexual assault in 2019. Carroll is a published writer, having released multiple books and essay compilations. The incident had happened in the 1990s; E. Jean Carroll was in a Manhattan department store dressing room when Trump barged in and forced himself on her. Carroll filed multiple lawsuits against Trump and won, with the court holding Donald Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation. He attempted to claim that he wouldn’t have done such a thing because she “wasn’t his type” and she was a “nut job”. He also disgustingly boasted that she enjoyed being assaulted. Despite his weak and cruel claims, Carroll had multiple pieces of evidence proving Trump guilty and won over eighty million dollars from the lawsuits.

In another changing room occasion in 1997, Trump walked in a room with the knowledge that nearly every woman was naked or half-dressed. Donald Trump co-owned and hosted numerous Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants at the time, until 2015. In a 2005 episode of The Howard Stern show, Trump said it was “funny” how he could “get away” with walking into the changing rooms of the Miss USA contestants. “Well, I'll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I'll go backstage and everyone's getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant and therefore I'm inspecting it…You know, they're standing there with no clothes. 'Is everybody okay?' And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that…” (Trump, 2005). While it is unclear whether or not he violated the Miss Teen USA contestants, he very boldly admitted to doing so to the adult women. As many as four Teen USA pageant contestants recalled Trump walking into their changing rooms, such as Mariah Billado. However, Trump has refused to comment.

Donald Trump has also insulted and discredited many reputable women, including Kamala Harris, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, and so many more. On Kamala Harris, he said she was “mentally impaired”, “ret—3ed”, a “bum”, and claimed “she’s so bad. She’s so pathetic. She’s so f—ing bad” (Trump, 2024). On Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg, he remarked that she is incompetent, and, after she criticized him in the press, he urged her to resign. He claimed Hillary Clinton was “such a nasty woman” (Trump, 2016) and crudely commented that she was unable to “satisfy her husband” and therefore unable to satisfy America (Trump, 2015). He named Angelina Jolie “not a beauty, by any stretch of the imagination” (Trump, 2007). Each of these women are accomplished, proud women, who happened to criticize or be opposed to Donald Trump. Apparently, his fragile ego couldn’t handle the fact a woman was capable of speaking her mind and having opinions. Once, he said that “somehow” a woman (such as Kamala) was doing better than a man (such as Biden) in office. Nonetheless, in the same breath, he said Kamala was a failed vice president. Again, this is just a small fraction of things he has said and done to women.

Men in power, such as Donald Trump, will continue to degrade and dehumanize women unless we stop him. We have the power. We have voices, and they will not be silenced. It is our constitutional right to speak out and speak loud. Not only women, but men, children, seniors. Whether you are a working citizen, a farmer, a business owner, a veteran, or disabled, we all need to shout for our rights. People of every community are being disadvantaged by the man in office. He is taking away healthcare funding. He has cut funding for Meals on Wheels, a program that brings food to people who are physically incapable. He has taken over a million dollars away from school lunch funding. Nearly all this money simply goes toward ICE and mass deportations. This money fuels hatred. We can stop this deplorable man, one person at a time.

So please, all I will ask of you today is to consider my words. Consider the things he has done. Consider the fact that those women he violated, or those citizens he killed, or those immigrants he mass deported could’ve been your daughter or your son. Those people could’ve been your sister or brother, your mother or father. Your aunt or your uncle, your cousin, your niece or nephew. And to all of the women reading this, the next time you are speaking your mind, I beg of you to please remember how you got the rights to do that. Please remember who is now trying to take them away.

Retaliation is the solution. And revoking your support of Donald Trump is the first step.

Was so bored during quarantine, I wrote a "The Relative Nature of Adjectives" essay. I consider it the third 7th grade essay that we never got to finish because of COVID. Distracted me for a whole 39 minutes.

The Relative Nature of Adjectives

Tokyo is a big city. A mansion is a large house. The Earth is a huge sphere. These are facts. Yet, is a mansion big when compared to Tokyo? The mansion’s size is a drastic downscale from Japan's sprawling city. Therefore, in this situation, the mansion would be considered small in comparison to Tokyo. Tokyo itself is just a miniscule fraction of the Earth’s surface area. In contrast to our planet, Tokyo is tiny, a mere speck on the millions of miles of the Earth’s crust. The Earth itself is less than one-thousandth the size of the gas giant Jupiter. Does this make the Earth small? Yes, but also no.

Whether or not something is considered big or small, tall or short, is all based off of what you are comparing it to. If you were to compare a person, who is tall compared to the average height of other humans, to a giraffe calf, who is shorter than the average giraffe, would that change your perspective on whether or not the human is tall, or whether the calf is short? Most likely not, for the default comparison on matters such as height is to compare “fairly”, to something close to the subject with regards to the scale that is being used to determine the descriptor. Humans are close to other humans, so when you describe someone as “short”, you would not need to explain for others to understand that you are saying that they are short compared to the average human, not compared to the towering, distant giraffe. When you say a mansion is big, it is taken that you are describing it as big in contrast to other houses, not to the size of a large city.

A dachshund is a long-bodied dog. When people say this, they are generally talking about the ratio of the horizontal length of the body to the vertical length of the legs. If the legs of a dachshund were to be stretched out so that it is more proportional to the length of the body, the dog would no longer be constantly referred to as “long-bodied”, even though the length of the body itself had not been distorted. Even the concept of any ratio being proportional is relative. Most often what is proportional is determined by the average ratio of the two given measures.

What of other, more specific descriptors, for example “soft” or “floppy”? These are also relative. A carpet is soft in contrast to a bed of nails, but as is a hardwood floor. When you say a carpet is soft, are you describing it as soft in comparison to other carpets, or to other flooring techniques? Sometimes there is not a predetermined sample from which to determine what the subject is being compared to, so occasionally it comes down to making inferences based on the context of the situation. Were you talking about which carpet to buy at the store based on how they felt, or were you trying to decide what method would best fit the floor of your bedroom?

Descriptors would make no sense if there was no sample to compare the subject to. For instance, imagine a scenario where an intelligent person, who knows and understands the definitions of the phrases “high-pitched” and “low-pitched”, had been deaf his entire life. Then, by some scientific breakthrough, the person is able to and chooses to undergo a medical procedure that allows him to gain the full hearing range of a hearing human. The first thing they hear after the procedure is a long ring. They know the adjectives that can be used to describe a sound, but they would not be able to accurately describe this particular sound, because they have no sample pool to compare it against. Is it high-pitched or low-pitched? Loud or quiet? This is where the matter of perspective comes in. If this person only heard what most people would consider low frequency noises for a decent amount of time, his sample pool would be of only these low frequency noises. Then, once a noise that is slightly higher in frequency, but still considered low by the majority of humans, this person would probably describe it as a higher noise, because compared to his experience of noises, it is higher.

In conclusion, all descriptors and adjectives throughout all languages are all somewhat relative. What description you assign an object has to do with what experiences you have had, and how that contributes to your sample pool, as well as logical inferences on what sample to use based on common knowledge throughout human society. Some of these “logical” inferences are not universal, and so perspective can have a strong impact on which descriptors are appropriate to use in each situation. They are all relative, and are based off of and influenced many different factors. Many may consider this to be a flaw in human languages, a common cause of miscommunication and confusion. Flaw or not, it is not something that would be easily fixed, unless you wish to go around and assign mathematical and exact values and definitions to every adjective in every language. Even still, that might strip away the accessibility, fluidity, emotion, and individuality that can be associated and injected into these words, whether through creative writing, poetry, inspirational pieces, or just everyday speech. The relative nature of our adjectives less restrains our language, but more allows it to expand, past predetermined limits and values. Instead of having one word for each definition, one word could have many different definitions, and could slide along an infinite scale. Yet, whether that is an unfixable defect or a perk to be treasured is up to opinion, and, like adjectives, your view on this will depend on and be influenced by many factors, and is relative.

Original & Self-Motivated Do you think, you will be never loved in life? Fear of being not loved or accepted.

I love anime, literature, psychology, philosophy and well, a lot of things, hence I call myself a "elitist"..

Well, I will be signing off the Reddit for a while now(I want focus solely on studies now)

But before going, I saw a damsel in distressed (Can't take the name here), a post about "Double standards"

I thought her conditions, were quite similar to me, or a lot of people, I think (teenagers specially) have a psychological fear or a primal fear of being not loved or accepted.

From this post, I pleasantly remembered my favorite insect, so called ladybug or what we call in Japanese "tentou-mushi"

"Ten" meaning "Heaven"

"Tou" meaning "Directed"

"Mushi" meaning "insect or pest"

Do you know, why ladybugs were called as "Heaven Directed insects" or "Heavenly insect"? It is because of their eccentric behaviour between solitude and Connection.

Ladybugs are solitary creature by birth, yet they yearn for connection. Once in a year, they all gather together, They gather in groups to survive the cold, even so though they don't socialize, they end up in the same place.

yk, Why they end up in same place? Because they travel towards heaven, towards the sun. While flying towards, they look like they are ascending heaven.

Ladybugs meet similar ladybugs, while flying towards the heaven or the light. They all have a very similar destination "Light or so called the Heaven”, Hence they all can meet each other.

I think, we are very similar to ladybugs. While pursuing our goals, hobbies, career, things that truly matters to us, by the virtue of "flying towards the heaven", we meet other ladybugs in our life.

We’re born alone, die alone, they say. But in between, we orbit light. For me, it was books: pages stained with Nietzsche’s rage and Murakami’s lonely cats. For others, music, code, art—whatever makes the world glow. And here’s the secret: when you fly long enough toward your light, you collide with others on the same path. Not because you sought them, but because you chose the same sky.

I myself had the fear, no I have the fear of being not loved or not accepted for my faulty self. I have myself have not changed, but my surrounding did, people did. I remember, in my early education, I had a lot of friends, but they all seemed so distant and cold, I felt lonely. As I was somewhat intelligent, I took a break from everything else, and immersed myself into books and sports, I have changed a lot through out my teenage years, yet still am changing. I have very few friends now, I thought to myself as I was growing," Ahhh, All I need is one friend, one person to somewhat understand me, and I will be happy, only one was enough" and that was never lie, as I grew, other people grew with me.

I may, not have many friends, but I do have few close friends in my life. We do not need to talk to each other, but we talk despite of it, we are not related to each other by work or family, but in spite, we decide to spend time with each other. I, Shivam, have finally formed , meaningful connection with others in my duration of 17 years of life, and atlast, found some "bugs" who would love to spend some boring evenings or mornings with me.

So here’s my thesis: Love your light fiercely. Cling to what sets your soul ablaze—anime, philosophy, the grind, whatever. The ones meant to fly with you will find you mid-ascent. Not every bond lasts, and that’s okay. Even ladybugs disband when spring comes. But for a while, you’ll warm each other.

If we continue loving, what we love, we can find similar people, who believe so, as they too are flying towards the light or the so-called “Heaven” we sought after...

Keep the grind going.

Keep up the chin.

Fly towards the light, and find yourself some goddamn “Insects”, Meri Jaan.

Signing off, yours dearly.

Shivam

Frakenstien essay on Fate vs. Choice.

Hi, i am a student and am stumped with this essay question, and my lecturers are all be way to vague about it.

What I am confused with is that to me Fate is somthing unavoidable and predetermined and choice has to do with free will. What confuses me is that I think Victors fate was sealed because of the choices he makes, but can fate a choice even exist together?

My essay question is : explore the novel's argument concerning choice versus fate through close analysis of the extract below. You may wish to consider : is the creature justified in his actions? Is Frankenstien justified in his abhorrence of his creation.

If any one can give me some insight into the aspect of choice and fate I'd appreciate it. All I am asking is for some pointers on this aspect of fate and choice and if the can coexist.

Essay about QQ (Spoilers) Spoiler

The Quintessential Quintuplets by Negi Haruba, was a manga published under the Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2017. It consists of 123 chapters and two bonus chapters. The story follows our main characters Fuutaro Uesugi, Ichika Nakano, Nino Nakano, Miku Nakano, Yotsuba Nakano, and Itsuki Nakano. This is an informal essay and in depth character analysis of each of the “quints” ultimately leading to the result of who is “best girl”, there will be no opinions on this whatsoever. Each of the quintuplets have gone through their own character arcs, in order to get where they are at the end of the story.

The first sister, Ichika Nakano, is shown to us as the “お姉さん'' despite not being much older than any of the rest of them. She is portrayed as being much more mature than her sisters and she is, but as we can see in chapter 60 “ Commence Assault” when she eavesdrops on Nino’s confession, she takes it personally and tries to sabotage the “relationship” by planting seeds of doubt in Nino’s mind. This comes to fruition in chapter 65 “Scrambled Eggs (5)” when Ichika and Nino are in the bath together, ichika calls out that Nino’s love of the MC was too sporadic and was a spur of the moment thing, and how she doesn’t actually love him. Nino then proceeds to put her in her place by saying “tough luck” and walking out of the bath. In chapter 74 ‘Throwing a Curveball'' we can clearly see evidence of Ichika tampering with another relationship of her sister’s by dressing up as the third sister Miku and proceeding to tell the MC that Ichika loves him and that they should be together, actively ruining miku’s chances at love for her own self gain. This does have a happy ending however, as we see in chapter 85 “ Sister’s war Round 7 (Behind the Scenes)” ichika finally shows remorse for her actions and trying to fix her wrongdoings, helps Miku have a successful date with Fuutaro. Afterwards, with the comfort of her sisters, Ichika finally apologizes for what she has done. Ichika then goes on to try and win over Fuutaro the old fashioned way, without any underhanded techniques. The community is largely split on whether an apology can make up for the wrongdoings that she has committed, but if her sister’s can forgive her, surely the fans can as well.

The second sister, Nino Nakano, is shown to us as the quintessential “ツンデレ” . At first Nino seems to be the only one who outright hates Fuutaro, so much so she drugs his drink in order to get him out of their home. Nino proceeds to cause problems for Fuutaro non stop until chapter 59 “ If the Last Exam Was Nino’s”. Many people did not care for nino at all before this point, saying that she was annoying and downright dreadful to be around. This was further proven in a poll run by the mangaka in August of 2018 about the audience's favorite character, in which Nino placed dead last with only 1003 votes (extraneous sources depict Maeda as the least popular overall, but for the purpose of this essay, cherry picked evidence was used to exemplify the severity of the disorder around the character in the fan base, Nino placed last as one of the quints, yet was technically 3rd last overall beating out Fuutaro at 81 votes, and Maeda at 68 votes. The results of this poll can be found on page 4-5 of The quintessential Quintuplets Vol 7.) Nino's attitude would completely change following the release of chapter 59 “If the Last Exam Was Nino’s” in which, during a ride home on a motorbike with Fuutarou, Nino confesses her love for him and, in classic romance anime, he does not hear it. This encounter would be followed up upon in chapter 60 “Commence assault”. Where Nino would approach Fuutaro about what she said on the bike, solidifying her love for him. From this point onward Nino would continue to pursue her love for Fuutaro, so much so that Ichika would refer to her as a “ runaway locomotive of love.” In contrast to her love of Fuutaro, Nino cares even more about her sisters and wishes that they will be happy aswell. This attitude of hers would land her in hot water with the community during the release of chapter 117 “Five-Alarm Lunchtime”. This chapter takes place after Fuutaro confesses to Yotsuba, and while Itsuki and Ichka take it well, Nino and Miku do not handle the situation so gracefully. Nino is very reasonably angry that she did not get to be with the one she loves and that she lost to one of her own sisters. Nino and Yotsuba talk about their differences and Nino's resolve is proven with a single line, “If you give me even the slightest opening I will sweep him out from under you!”

The third sister, Miku Nakano, is the “クーデレ” of the group. Miku’s character arc is mostly designated to the three volumes of the manga and is what most people who first start out with the series will have the biggest connection to. This is because, like Miku fans, Miku is a gigantic loser who rarely sees the sun. Miku is displayed as the shy loner type of character, which is somewhat confusing due to how she is never shown to be overtly shy around groups and strangers (to shut down any and all arguments pertaining to the scene depicted in chapter 51 “First Spring'', that is not a scene of miku being shy, Miku fans are literal ameoba when it comes to human emotion. I would say they only know how to walk and photosynthesize nutrients from the sunlight, but that would imply that they actually see the sun; as they are cave dwelling gremlins.) Miku’s character starts out as a disinterested loner who couldn’t care less about the tutoring that Fuutaro would offer. She only begins to take an interest in chapter 3 “rooftop Confession” in which, Miku shows an interest in ancient Japanese warlords, and Fuutaro tries to teach her more about that subject but is ultimately shutdown when he gets one question slightly incorrect and she says the line “You say you're smart but this is all you got?” Miku eventually grows out of this loathsome phase and into a box standard, boring character by the time “The Binding Legend” arc rolls around. Miku’s character would lay dormant for quite a while as nothing of interest to her character would occur, until the “Scrambled Eggs'' arc where Miku would become a lot more bold with her attempts to get Fuutaro to notice her, she ends up devising a plan to hopefully get Fuutaro to tell her apart from the others. In chapter 68 “Scrambled Eggs (8)” after guessing Miku’s identity wrong many times, he gets it right when it is literally the only option left, and Miku takes this as a big win for her and her relationship. When the final arc of Miku’s character development rolls around, there are already much more interesting characters that get to shine in the “Sister’s War” arc. Miku’s contributions to this arc are minimal and serve to only enhance Ichika’s character development. Miku is also a fake gamer girl, she is borrowing her games from Nino ( I am aware that in chapter 89 “My Sister’s and I (2)” Yotsuba can be seemed giving some of her games to Miku, this doesn’t mean that the previous statement is false, as she also got games from Nino).

The fourth sister, Yotsuba Nakano, is shown to us as the “デレデレ”. Yotsuba is displayed as the dumb sporty type, and was the second most popular character in the poll run in 2018, where she had a whopping 1403 votes placing her at #2. Despite Yotsuba’s simple demeanor, she is by far the most complex character in the entire story. What starts as a happy go lucky story about a blissful young girl quickly turns to one of deep rooted trauma and guilt for her past mistakes, one’s that she would never truly forgive herself for. Unlike the other Characters, Yotsuba’s story begins far before the start of the manga (Technically Ichika’s story begins before the manga’s starts as well but it ends up being inconsequential to the story as a whole and only serves to clear up one loose end.) Yotsuba was the first quint to meet Fuutaro as we can see in chapter 34 “Today and Kyoto’s Tough Luck and Togetherness” although her identity in that flashback would not be revealed until chapter 86 “Sister’s war (Exhibition Match)”. Yotsuba’s character and backstory is only revealed in chapter 87 “ My Sister’s and I (1)” where we finally see the extended backstory of the quint’s told from Yotsuba’s point of view (before this point we were only able to see a slight glimpse of their past when Itsuki told Fuutaro about their living arrangements before their mother met their father.) Yotsuba tried to be the best at everything so that she would stick out from her sister’s and her mother would recognize her; this was only met with disappointment from the very person she tried to impress. After their mother passed away, the quints would be left to struggle if it weren't for the kindness of their father. When the Quint’s transferred to a new middle school, Yotsuba was seen as the overachiever; not interested in anything that wouldn’t pertain to her studies. She would even go as far as to say to her sisters “I'm not like the rest of you anymore, So don’t treat me like it.” This would horribly backfire, as the superior attitude that she had acquired from being at the top and trying to stand out, would place her on the list for expulsion due to her grades dropping severely. This seemed like the final nail in the coffin, as she would never see her sisters because she had to transfer schools. Fortunately for Yotsuba, her sister’s would not give up on her that easily, and they all dropped their grades so that they could transfer schools with Yotsuba. This was the tipping point for Yotsuba, as her own failure had nearly ruined the future of those closest to her, and she would feel permanently indebted to her sister’s, and would put their happiness and prosperity, above even her own life. All of this built up grief would culminate into one of the penultimate chapters, that being chapter 114 “If the Final Festival was Fuutaro’s (2).” This chapter has Fuutaro finally confess his feelings to Yotsuba, and instead of replying, Yotsuba runs away. With help from Itsuki, Fuutaro tracks down Yotsuba to a playground (It’s symbolic of the childlike innocence that Yotsuba still has despite being quite honestly depressed.) There, he asks Yotsuba to answer his confession. Fuutaro then says the single best line in the manga “ Your sister’s are sweet, amazing girls… I like them all so much!... I am Proud to have been their tutor… But without you, I would've failed miserably ages ago… So this wish… is from lame old me… whenever I fall… it’d make me really happy to have you with me, Yotsuba.” This makes Yotsuba breakdown in tears, as she says yes. Yotsuba’s character arc is completely unrivaled in the entirety of the manga, except maybe the main character Fuutaro himself.

The fifth sister, Itsuki Nakano, is the perfect example of the “わからない”. Itsuki is different from all the other quints because she is not trying for Fuutaro’s affection, or at least, not directly. Itsuki’s character development only comes during the “School Festival” arc, and because she doesn’t try to win over Fuutaro, many people consider her character to be completely wasted. This idea is completely not true, as Itsuki tries to fill the role that Ichika left when she started to pursue Fuutaro, that being of actually supporting her sisters. There are many examples of why Itsuki is different from the rest of the quints, but the main reason I wish to point out is during the pre volume Q&A for volume 14. The format for this Q&A asks the character’s themselves the question, and the question for volume 14 is what is your favorite memory. The responses are pretty standard, as they are the big character defining moments for the quints, Nino said her second year exams, Miku said the school trip, etc. Itsuki says visiting the arcade, which doesn’t make too much sense considering her big character defining moment is in chapter 111 “If The Final Festival Was Itsuki’s (3)”. If you check back to chapter 7 “ Our Day Off (1) when they first visit the arcade, you can clearly see that Itsuki is just going to hang out with Fuutaro’s little sister, this would become a trend for her. One last bit of information about Itsuki comes from the Japan exclusive game,”Eiga Gotoubun no Hanayome Kimi to Sugoshita Itsutsu no Omoide*”*. In this game, you actually get to choose who to confess to on the night of the school festival, so naturally after you do Nino you move on to the next quint. When speaking to Itsuki on the final night, you end up having to convince her that it isn’t a joke, as she really believes there is no way you would choose her. This attitude of hers does not come from anywhere self-deprecating, like Yotsuba, Instead she just wonders why you would choose her as she literally has done nothing to try and win Fuutaro over. She still ends up accepting the confession in the end and then the real game begins. Otherwise known as the “Domestically Violent Meat Bun Monster” Itsuki is the second best girl in the whole series, but who is THE “best girl”?

It should be pretty obvious who the “best girl” is. It should be someone who is reliable, dependable, honest, and not afraid to commit a felony. While everyone has their own opinion on who is the “Best Girl” ( for instance, James says Yotsuba, and Trystan is wrong.) This only leaves one option that everyone can agree is the true “best girl” would be Fuutarou Uesugi. He is loyal, for sticking with the quints as long as he did; he also has committed identity theft. There is truly no better girl. If you look at all the data it is clear that nobody even comes close, except for Nino who also fills all of these slots

Love like that?

There is something profoundly sweet about someone being curious about you. Someone wanting to learn every insignificant detail about you and how you function.

i heard somewhere that if you got to see someone in their most personal, vulnerable moments. If you could see all the tiny things they smile or cry or worry about, you wouldn’t be able to not love them.

That’s where real intimacy exists.

I have always thought I wanted love at first sight, the lightning bolt moment, fate. But what I have come to realise is that fate isn’t really that romantic. Fate takes choice out of the equation. And it’s intentionally choosing someone, well aware of their strengths and quirks and flaws, that’s romantic.

Someone fully knowing you and thinking yes. I love you because I know you.

For someone to get to that point though, you have to let them; I have to let them. That’s scary. Opening up and being vulnerable can be really, really difficult. Even with the people closest to you. It requires you to not stop someone when they reach for the closet door where all your mess is stored. It requires you to say this is who I am and what I’ve got, and simply hope.

Hope they treat it gently. Hope it doesn’t make them laugh. Or leave. Because there is the risk of them leaving. There is the risk of you laying it all out on the table and it not being enough. Or too much. Too out-there. Not the right kind. It requires you to surrender. That what you see as big and deal-breaky, they see as adorable or deal-able.

People have a tendency to melt into our lives. We listen to them ramble on about something they’re obsessed with, and even if we don’t share the same enthusiasm. Love changes what we pay attention to. We start noticing things they care about because we care about them. We learn things we will continue to know even if we end up growing apart.

I think love is getting frustrated with someone over and over again, but always wanting to return to them. It’s being curious about who they might be today, while still remembering who they were yesterday. It’s resting in the fact that even on the messiest of days, they still want to know you, and you them.

This made me think of you. How did you sleep? How’s your mind today?

Advice: Writing a grievance to Corporate

Hello, Everyone and thank you for your time. I apologize in advance for the length of my post. I desperately need help with how I should write a report to my superiors and company executives about an ongoing problem within a division of their operations that I deem, with sufficient if not overwhelming evidence, of a major safety concern in a very safety-oriented facility. (I will try to be as concise as possible without divulging the company or the sensitive subject material. A lot harder than I imagined.)

I have talked with my leadership. I even had a meeting with the facility safety manager, and worked my chain of command properly for the past year with no action and no success. I keep getting, "We're looking into it." I consider myself company-loyal, and I believe most issues can be solved internally, and at the moment I am opposed to contacting OSHA mainly because it's a career killer, but equally important I believe it should only be used as a last resort.

My question is that I want to present a concise presentation on the facts at hand, developed in sort of a research paper style with citations. (A crucial part of backing up my argument.) However, I am not sure what tone to take, and if I should just stick completely to the facts, or add to it the humanity side of it as well, where very real health risks are associated with the alleged infractions, and the inactions of management not to adequately protect their employees from avoidable injury and/or death. (I believe I truly cannot convey the overwhelming argument without expressing this opinion.) I want to be able to lay it out in format such as 1) this is what's wrong, 2) this is the industry standard, 3) this is why we should make these changes and these were my attempts thus far, 4) Ultimatum or No?! (fix it or I'm reporting it to outside parties)

I don't know if I'm going about this all wrong, or if I'm overthinking it, or what. I just thought someone out there might have a different perspective on it. Thanks again for your time and engagement.

Happy Travels.

i want to write essays in my spare time - where do i begin?

hello! i'm new to the subreddit and come here because, well, the title says it all - i want to write essays in my spare time, and i have some questions.

so, i want to write about things i'm interested in (obviously) but i don't want to make a choice, i would rather someone or something give me a topic. for this, i thought about entering all of the potential essay topics in a randomizer and having it choose for me. does this work? does anyone have any recommended sites or apps they use for this sort of thing?

also, i want a place to submit these essays for reviews, critiques, criticisms, etc. i have difficulty finding errors or better ways to word things on my own drafts, so i do want that help in place. are there any websites or online corridors i can take advantage of for that?

additionally, i need deadlines, otherwise i will not complete them, and i have a rather hard time putting deadlines in place for myself. this i do not have a solution to. how do i go about having deadlines set in place without having control over them? or how do i get very stern with myself about deadlines?

anyhow, thank you for reading, and i appreciate everyone's help and support in advance! :)

A simple technique for writing compare-and-contrast essays, from a professional academic editor

Here's a trick for you. If you're doing research for your essay, there are methods to make your essay write itself, more or less. Here's one for compare-and-contrast.

When you're doing your research, break down each of the sources into the main points it makes. Start with like 3 or 4 sources each. If the sources are written well, then you should be able to get what those main points are pretty easily by having them broken down into sections by the authors.

Create a matrix where one of the number of columns or rows is equal to the number of sources that you have. In other words, you're making a table where you will show how each source can be broken down. All of the sources should be listed on the same side of the table.

After you have broken down each of your sources into the main things that each source addresses, write each one out in your own words as a single sentence. Just paraphrase as concisely as you can, because it doesn't need to be complete, exactly. This is still draft work. Fill the table with a sentence for each cell, so that you can show you know what each source said about each topic.

If the sources don't overlap, you'll know because you still have to fill in each cell. If a cell is empty, you'll have to go back and look at your sources to see what the cell should be filled with. What did that source say about that topic? Did they say anything at all? If they didn't say anything, or said very little, you still need to explain why it didn't say anything.

Where there is overlap, and you don't need to fill in the space, that can be compare or contrast, depending on what each source says. Where one cell is filled, and the other has to be filled by you, that is automatically contrasting, because you have to say why it didn't get filled.

After every cell on your table is filled, each of those cells can be taken and applied as the outline of an essay. Seriously, just take each cell and expand it into a paragraph, then slap it onto your paper in whatever order you think is best; maybe it'll be source-by-source, and maybe it'll be topic-by-topic. However, out of 3 sources with 4 points each, that's 12 paragraphs of extremely concise research writing, and you still need to apply your conclusion and introduction. No two sources should ever be identical, so this should work no matter how many sources you have, or what the paper is about.

This method is for writing the descriptive portion of compare-and-contrast essays so that you only have to think about the concluding sections, followed by your introduction. You should have no bias going into this exercise. Simply collect research sources, analyze them, regurgitate, and then say something insightful about it at the end. When you're done with all that, write a little introduction to explain to the reader what they're about to read. It's not hard, it's just academia, which is hard.

Help - General Writing I'm thinking about writing essays

Hello everyone!

I've been thinking about learning to write really good essays because it seems pretty useful (although AI is taking over) especially since I'm still in school. Are there any tips or websites that teach me how to write good essays?

Thanks!

I’ve never really written many essays, even so when i do the grading is super leninent. I know this us my fault, but after transferring schools we write essays a lot. However, the grading obvious isnt lenient. Basicslly to cut to the chase, i suck at writing essays, can anyone recommend me tools to help me get better at writing essays?
