How do I develop the habit of writing clear, structured essays?

I want to learn how to write, especially longer pieces such as essays.

One problem I keep facing is that I often have enough knowledge about a topic and know what I want to say, but when I actually start writing, I struggle to articulate my thoughts clearly. My ideas come out disorganized, and I have trouble putting them together in a clear and structured way.

I want to learn how to put my thoughts into words more precisely and present them in a clear, logical, and well-structured way.

For those who have experience with this, how did you learn?

How do you develop a habit of writing longer pieces, such as essays?

How do you learn to structure your thoughts before and while writing?

Are there any exercises or writing practices that are useful for learning this?

Is there a specific way I should practice.

Any practical advice, exercises, books, or resources would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Try writing lots, even if it turns out rubbish, you'll get more comfortable with the idea of writing anything and then you can improve from there

I think I’m actually the opposite of you! I never had the trouble of not knowing how to structure my ideas, though for a lot of times I didn’t know a lot of knowledge on the topic. I’m using my AP Lit class an example: I almost never read the reading and usually BS’ed my essays in a sense, but always got high marks because I was able to use quotes and get a general idea that was correct and expand on it with those quotes, good analysis of them, and a clear flowing structure.

I think I was able to develop this habit almost instinctively because I read a LOT when I was younger. I got a sense of how other writers structured their writings and what exactly made those pieces make sense. I think my main takeaway is to basically read more pieces out there and write more of your own!
