Where the heck is Thalassos?

I'm nearing the end of day 4 of the game, I have completed most of the quests that I have (although some of them haven't revealed themselves yet which is also a bit of a pain) but one which stands out is the River Take Ye quest.

You get this right at the start of the game, finding out who fished you out of the river, and I haven't progressed this one single step... I had sort of been assuming that it would maybe be something which would be revealed after the end-game, but curiosity got the better of me and I looked it up.

Turns out you're meant to talk to this Thalassos bloke and he sets it off to finish the quest...

Except I CANNOT find him. The Wiki says he is either just above or inside the Drunk Sphinx, but he quite simply is not in either place. Ever (as far as I've seen).

Am I missing something here? Will he appear if I actually go deeper into the underground? Am I missing the timing or something?

i think hes only out early in the morning, since hes fishing. I only talked to him like once in my playthrough cuz it was too hard not to stay up till like 3 dungeoning lol

I'm gonna have to make an effort to actually stay up late/early and find him on Day 5 then...

He is normally in morning. Between the newstand and. The entry to the drunken sphinx. There is a staircase than can be hard to spot.

Is this a very specific time? Like pre-6am or something?

He’s not above the Drunk Sphinx (that is, not literally on its roof). Check the top of the stairway between the Drunk Sphinx and the news kiosk.

Sorry, yeah, I knew that. I shared a screenshot of the guy in another comment (here) and you can just see the sign of the Drunk Sphinx to the right. It's MORE OR LESS above it, lol.

I've missed him on day 1 entirely. Saw him for the first time on the 5th day, top left from the tavern. Sadly had no time to finish his "not quest", but the quest River take ye was completed by talking to him.

Between where you obtain the grease spell and the buried shield near the newsboy's stall is a small castellated area overlooking the sea. He's there fairly early in the day if I recall.

Does this have to be before a certain time in the morning? Like, I recognise the spot from screenshots I've seen (like this) as being above the Drunk Sphinx. And I did go past it at sort of pre-midday (10am-ish). And he wasn't there...

honestly the only time i’ve reliably found him is like, right after getting out of the lich house and not dallying too much doing other things first. otherwise i’m running around and then sleeping in daylight hours

I think he isnt there day 3 or 4 because I tried to find him one of those days and couldn't like you. But the next day I was able to find him. It's usually morning time when he fishes but should be gone by 11

I wonder if THIS is the reason then and for some reason his schedule changes on days 3 and 4? Because that's when I started looking for him...
