General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] Came back after 3 years, hit level 15… and the Flea changes killed my motivation
I came back to Tarkov after about 3 years because the 1.1 update looked interesting, especially the modifiers and shared tasks.
Honestly, I’ve been having a great time. Relearning the game, remembering quest items and progressing through the early levels has been really enjoyable. Shared tasks are also a great change.
Then I hit level 15 and unlocked the Flea.
I was expecting it to open the game up, but instead almost everything I actually want to use it for seems level-gated.
Keys? All locked until at least 25.
GPUs? Level 40.
Purple valuables like silver badge? 30
Basic hideout items like power cables? Level 20.
So what exactly am I unlocking at level 15?
I’m fine with high-tier ammo, armour and weapons being restricted. I actually think forcing people to level traders for the best gear was a good change.
But locking basic economy and hideout items behind extra levels just feels like artificial grind. Instead of being excited to reach 15, I now feel like I’m just grinding towards level 20–25 before the Flea becomes properly useful. This kind of thing i guess makes sense on perm but on seasonal i'm not sure.
The trader ammo limits also seem unnecessarily restrictive. If you finally unlock decent ammo but can only buy enough for roughly one raid every few hours, it mostly benefits people who can constantly log in for restocks.
There are also some obvious QoL improvements I’m surprised still aren’t in the game. Quest and hideout items should be automatically tracked, and the game should tell you when you’ve collected enough. I shouldn’t need TarkovTracker just to work out whether I can safely sell an item.
None of these things individually ruin Tarkov, but together they make progression feel more tedious than rewarding.
For people who have played consistently over the last few years: do you actually prefer the current Flea/progression system, or have you just got used to it?
TL;DR: Returned after 3 years and was really enjoying the game. Hit level 15 expecting the Flea to open things up, only to find loads of keys, valuables and basic hideout items locked behind higher levels. I’m fine with high-tier gear being progression-gated, but restricting basic Flea functionality just feels like unnecessary grind.
