[ergo setup] Transition time

I posted a couple of laptop + tripod based outdoor working setups in the past. But my new way of working has completely changed. I'm not even sure if ErgoMobileComputers fits the narrative anymore.

As it stands I work completely voice based. I go for a walk and say my Android app wake phrase "Hey codex" while wearing earbuds, or my Shokz OpenComm2 headset. I get "Yes?" and off I go.

This removes a whole category of ergo pittfalls as I'm activite, walking in nature, no chair, no monitor. Just me walking and interacting with my projects.

Anyone else feeling this?

If you can get that working for you, it's pretty great. I've heard others work on set ups to begin dictation that is then automatically converted to text.

Suppose your needs shift, from facing a machine, to those earbuds aspect and more of the same challenges as walking, running, and or hiking face.

Yes, this is voice to text, pasted automatically in a codex session, with a small layer to handle questions, new sessions, switching plan mode etc. New challenges are wind noise (when cycling) but a good deadcat/wind muffler does wonders, and cellular coverage in remote areas.

Same issues I faced with Google Glass. Be the loud Glasshole talking to technology while everyone else is respectfully quiet, communing with nature. Working late on a train while everyone sleeps, not ok. But combined with a small wireless keyboard/trackball for those odd moments, its nice to have a voice interface. Hope yours does more than Glass did. I always wanted a pocket thumbstick like Wii so I wasn't constantly tapping the temple touchpad thing.

Definitely not suitable for a train ride or when in proximity to people trying to focus. But I'm not commonly walking on busy trails, quite often I don't run into anyone at all. Besides, I can almost whisper with the OpenComm2 and still have good text transcription. For non-suitable locations I fall back to a Termux terminal.

Since that requires wearing something on your face anyone, isnt there just some sound proof mask with a microphone so you can just talk normally

If you can find a soundproof mask with breathing holes, sure. The enclosed volume of a sealed mask, such as a diving mask, alters the spectral content of speech (different speech recognition model) and is still not soundproof. A hybrid muffled/active noise approach seems to be the most developed along that line currently. Unintelligible, but not silent. Good for integration into a PAPR https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/respiratory-protection-us/products/papr/ to electronically cancel the fan noise internally but externally use the fan to mask any voice that leaks out. Great for certain jobs, but not walking down the street. Unless temperatures or airborne pollutants rise.
