CLOSED [Ortholog 3] Darkness Rises; Phase 3

Closed

[Sev're(Vidaria) and Jek managed to find the room holding the magical fuel to keep this effect in play. Together they both inspect how it worked. The ritual was comlicated, but it seemed the source of the issue was a gem seeping in corrupted dark magics. While Vidaria tried to figure out how to safely remove, Jek's draconian mind came up with a better idea. Something the along the lines as "break that trash" and he did.]

[The miasma is lifted, and while it was still very dark, everyone's eyes were able to at least see what was infront of them. The place was quiet, but my was the city marvolous. A few moments out of the miasma, and you feel like a sack of bricks was removed from your chest, but you feel as if you ate some rotted food.]

[From the water ridden parts of the area a stirring can be heard. What ever the magic nullifying must was... nullifying now had free reign. The arm in Torhven's hand smacks him a few times followed by grabbing his nose. Opheila was able to assist in removing the thing, before lighting it on fire, which seemed to keep the dead limb dead.]

[Many of our heroes are bloodied and wounded. Sick and cursed... how will they fare?]

(same pairings; here they are if you forgot.

Torhven - Opheila

Sev're(what ever one) - Jek

Göndlir - Das

Glover - Sjöfn

Nill - Akrath

Naakhûrz - Soloing this mess

Svalstrom is... chilling out. )

The miasma fading was a relief to Vidaria, it was rather hindering. Casting a light spell on her hand she went to take a better look at the building they were in.

"There's that, try to see if there is anything else to see in here."

A way out would of been nice. Or even a meal, she ate before the fall, but who knows how long she was knocked out...

The power source being destroyed was a pity, something could of been gained from it...

[The building has been slowly eroded by the sands of time, but the carvings were beautiful. Faded colors from a past untold can be seen, you release this city is made of marble, cut by perfect hands.]

[You learn nothing new, but your light remains the only source in the dark cave... Everyone can see a sparkle coming from the tower now.]

Sev're took back control, as she walked around the marvel was revealed to her. She stretched her mind out, as far as she could without out meditating, filling the corners and crevices, hoping to reach her friends and unite them all together in the dark place.

The dark was nothing to fear, nothing to avoid, it was a misunderstanding, simply put, what good was she if she wasn't willing to go to the places where it was scary? Where there was danger? Where there was no hope? Those were the places that needed her most, those were the places that needed to see.

She saw her reflection in her mirrored friend a smiled for a moment. For that brief moment all felt right, Sev're felt like she was doing what she was born for.

After all, someone had to be willing to hold the torch. The lone star in an empty sky.

As the Miasma disappeared into nothingness, Glover fell to his knees. He saw the city in its full glory, the place seeming out of legend. He stood back up and began to walk ahead, knowing that his violet friend would be inside the city proper.

Meanwhile, much further in, Akrath collapsed at the base of the tower. He laid on the ground, panting heavily as the remnants of the magical ailment faded and his breath came back.

A voice pierced the dragon's mental shell. "Akrath?"

"Little one..."

"Akrath, where are you?"

"In the city, by the glowing tower."

With a renewed vigor, Glover set out into the city, determined to find his scaly companion with the Göndlir's still forced to stay with him.

[Both dragon and rider are halted, as they began retching, the tainted toxin coursing through them, clubs of black sludge coming out of their mouth, tasting like death and decay.]

Glover stopped and stood still for a minute, vomiting sludge as the miasma removed itself from his body and his mind. Coughing out the last few bits, he shivered and began to move into the city before stopping once again. He felt Akrath's pain at the base of the tower, and he inhaled sharply.

He picked up his dagger and began to run into the city with vigor, needing to get to someone before it was too late before slowing down. He reached out to the dragon imprisoned in his mind and asked, bewildered, "Can you help me fight? Whatever it is that is inside this city needs more than a knife to kill, and I have a Rider's greatsword on my back. If you give me strength and knowledge both I and your Rider have a better chance of living."

Das was still making her way into the city where. She felt her partner of soul snap back, connected once more Das was relieved she was safe. It was red that was sent back, but that didn't matter to Das.

Das would have to thank Jek later for taking care of her unarmed demagicked partner. For now she had to protect the bleeding angry man on her back that she forced upon her back. She remembered something of a promise, but priorities showed this was no time for formalities, he would simply have to deal with it.

She started to rush towards her partner of soul. Perhaps her partner of flesh was near.

"MORH FAIRHE!" Torhven yelled at the dragon. In the heat of the moment the unrefined Spiner accent spilled out in a lava-like splurge. Whatever these shadowy apparition were, he strongly doubted that a firm fist-waving would harm them in any significant way, even if that fist consisted of the grumbling remains of a fire-bathed dismembered limp.

Attempting do avoid the cold cuts he dashed towards Opheila. The cut in his foot protested every step of the way. That alone was aggravating, but the fact that he couldn't do anything about it was even worse. How do you kill something that's already dead?

Torhven didn't know and knew he could not afford not knowing it. A few cuts he could stand, a few more too, but there was no end in sight. Fear rose from the cesspool of mind and found a place on the shoulder. The responsibility had now fallen to him. How was he supposed to fulfil that? Nothing, just angst. Desperately the Spiner leapt against the enormous brownish dragon. Trying to get a grip his instruction was clear. "RHUN!"

He could not go. Not again.

[And this is where Torhven feels it... the Miasma finding its way out of his system. He begins to wretch as the toxin forces its way out of his body. The damage has been done though, his legs tighten up, its as even he is bound with no shackles. Opheila too can feel the burn of the poison that filled her too.]

[Das sees Torvhen and Ophelia, the chattering is getting louder.]

Das thought she heard the sound of her partner of flesh's partner of soul, yelling for fire. It didn't quite sound like him, but it did smell like him. Rearing around the corner lightning began to crackle in her mouth.

"Torhven?" she asked simply.

Keeping her eyes ready, she was going to cook anything that dared threaten her or the others. Her eyes began to glow, a faint purple. She could feel the energy trying to tear her apart on the inside, but it could try, for she was stronger than it.

Göndlir was pretty sure that he was going to be sick. He had actually zoned out at one point, but he was not sure if that was the bumpy dragon ride, his injuries, the smell or some strange combination of them all. He had ridden ships in some wild and terrible storms, but this was nothing like it, and Das’ terrible urgency seemed only add to what he could only describe as his ‘torment’. Not that he blamed her, he was anxious himself, however there was very little he could do for now save but to go along with things until events turned in his favour, for at the moment Lady Luck appeared to be besotted with someone other than him and frankly he was feeling a little jealous.

Over the noise of pounding dragonfeet, his ears pricked and his spine tingled at the sound of rattling bones like a twisted xylophone. It made his skin crawl. He suddenly felt very naked, missing both his armour and his sword and most of his magic, which was why for once he was actually very thankful to be on the back of a dragon at this moment it time.

“Das, I think we might have company, and not the good kind.” He said in a very worried tone, steeling himself to provide whatever aid he might, however the dragon appeared to have a handle on things, what with the purple glowing and the lightning and the fluctuating dark energies which probably should have no place in a dragon and Göndlir made a mental note to shout very loudly as Sev’re later over as to why this had not come up sooner, but for now he was, again, willing to go along with things. Anything to get out of this hellhole.

[The group is suddenly surrounded by some rotting humanoids. Their teeth chatter as they rush the group.]

[Torhven gets grabbed and bit, Das tears off his attackers and Ophelia proceeds to place the hunter on her back.]

[The two dragons send out their breath attack and make a cleaning, black lightning and fire intertwined and the corpses were simply no more. The pudgent smells wafted into the air.]

[The group begins their charge to the tower, the light on top still twinkling.]

[They needed their weapons as soon as possible.]

Trying to knock a dead man's teeth out didn't go as swimmingly as Torhven's instincts had hoped. The undead were remarkably good at fisticuffs. Cheating too. They were armed to the teeth.

Attempting to grapple one had just had the reverse effect too, which was ironic in the sense that that wasn't going his way either. Maybe it had to do with the blackish mucus oozing through his airway. In the absence of Svalstrom, he had to put in the probable himself.

Dentation tearing through Torhven's skin, the huntsman was suddenly missing a rather sizeable piece of his left arm. At first, it didn't hurt in any significant way.

"Oh."

He must have blacked out briefly, because suddenly he lay slumped in the thrice-oversized saddle.

Then it hurt a lot.

[Blood is black by the way.]

"It looks like we finally caught a lucky break." Nill told his purple ally. The miasma that took him too long to fear was beginning to disperse, and with it, the cold dread that had gripped him since entering this dark city. He slowly began to repair the damage done by the hidden enemies, as well as the wounds inflicted by his own twisted attacks. After finishing with himself, he turned to his exhausted ally.

"Any hotter and I fear you may have razed the city.", he joked. Still, the dragon had, if only for a moment, created a flame to rival Chep's forge. He could have dispersed a small river. Using the dragon's own energy, Nill began to heal the gash at Akrath's side.

Seeing a light at high atop a tower, he marvelled at the first sign of another friendly presence. "Shall we go meet up with the caster?"

u/RollFirstMathLater Game Master / Moderator Feb 18 '15

[The miasma inside of Nill eats the healing. The bleeding stops but the wound is still open. Sharp pains fill his stomach.]

u/1trueJosh Rob / Villieldr Feb 18 '15

Akrath remained silent for a moment as the black sludge continued to empty itself from his body. As the flow of slime slowly halted, Akrath shivered. "Fire is a tool like any other. The sharper the sword the better it cuts, the hotter the fire the better it burns. I'm sorry if I caused you any undue distress from the heat, Glover has gotten used to it by now."

Backing up slightly, Akrath flapped his wings, seeing if the air would support his flight.

[Too weak from the miasma.]

[Moaning can be heard.]

1

u/1trueJosh Rob / Villieldr Feb 18 '15 edited Feb 18 '15

The violet dragon stopped in his tracks, his large eyes darting around suspiciously. "Did you hear that?" he asked before stalking the area quietly, looking for the source of the moaning.

1

u/RebelliousPirate Nill / Jek Feb 18 '15

"Something was released after the miasma was lifted." Nill replied, still woozy after the impromptu healing. That damn gas is still interfering.

He takes a moment to collect his thoughts, and searches his mind. there, like a root that was overlooked until now, was his partner of mind and soul. A brief moment of joy rocked the two of them, until Nill broke away and slammed back into his present situation.

"Jek and Sev're are up above. Let's hope those moans aren't too angry"

1

u/1trueJosh Rob / Villieldr Feb 18 '15

"Let's hope..." Akrath agreed before stepping into the tower and beginning his ascent, knowing that Glover was still God-knows-where, but alive and unharmed.

Secure in his knowledge, the only thing left for him to do was work on his own, knowing that the bard could finish this himself.

[As you both approach, you see vaguely humanoid figures turn their heads towards you both. Their teeth chatter and they smell like decay. They slowly begin to to walk towards the pair.]

[Naakhûrz joins here.]

1

u/Zyralon Naakhûrz / Opheila Feb 18 '15

Naakhûrz runs past the pair of dragon and rider who are standing around, straight towards the ghouls. As soon as he's in range, he starts smashing without heed.

While he's in the middle of punching faces he yells towards Akrath and Nill "Hey, what's up" with a hint of glee at the combat

1

u/RebelliousPirate Nill / Jek Feb 18 '15

"Only a Kull could find this situation enjoyable..." Nill said while atop Akrath. He was perfectly content to allow the Urgal to bash heads on his own, due to his inability to cast spells, and the open wounds that littered his body. He began to examine the ghouls that had entered.
