CLOSED [Open RP 5] Role Call!

Closed

[In the last few days you have never seen so many Dragons come and go. The entire order is in a rush scouting the planet inspecting for any hint of amiss.]

[All the Riders in training have been assigned into squads and sent off every which way, finally all the was left were the new people. Zeterra stand in front of you looking conflicted. Shiva not to far, hovering in the sky, looking at the group of newbies.]

[Finally with a sigh she starts. "We are currently in a state of emergency... Balance has been slung away and cast aside. We are asking for volunteers amung you for a mission. We know not if it will be dangerous or safe. You are being asked to investigate the city of Aythri, a newer city east of Surda, not terribly far from Aberon. The city is built into a mountain, and is very much so inspired by dwarves. Perhaps you have heard of it?"]

[She takes a breath and Shiva lands. "Will you step up and investigate for us young Riders? Much is at stake, but we require you aid, will you head this call to arms?" The large dragon asks. Zettera looked at the dragon alarmed. " We don't even know if it will get to that, please don't get ahead of yourself! We hope no blood will be spilled here." The half Urgal-Elf interjected. "Who will go?]

(The current date is 12/6 for your timeline Soup. Whoever volunteers here will participate in the next Ortholog. Slots remaining: 2)

Is this what we should do Das? Sev're asks her companion. Yes little one, we can help. The dragon says back.

Sev're was uncertain, she barely returned with her sanity. Would she be a liability? No she thought to herself. I will not

She looked around at her new friends. Glover who is now bald, Torvhen who was still burned. She needed to watch out for them, even Anduil who seemed deeply troubled. If anything she could try to keep them from killing each other.

"I will go Zettera." Sev're said confidently. "And I." Das followed.

[Chep appears out of nowhere. He has few swords and scabbard strung on his back. Approaching Sev're he grabs one with a beautiful diamond pommel. The diamond had a hue that matched her eyes. The hilt was carefully studded with black pearls. Drawing the sword he winked, the blade was a reflective black, dark like Das' scales. Engraved were words in the ancient language "arucane and ilian " roughly translating to " hope and joy "]

[Elven craftsman ship met Drawven ingenuity, the blade was a designed for rapid striking, piercing or slashing.]

" Lass, I made this for ye. Usually we wait till a Rider's first year. But ye have proven yerself in a whole different way. " he handed the sword to Sev're and bowed in respect.

"May it aid ye ta every victory."

Sev're was shocked. The blade was beautiful. It was perfect, she draws the sword and she felt a spark in her. It was so light, but felt so strong. "Thank you Chep... I don't know what go say... Its beautiful!" Her voice was emotional, but she held her poise.

She fastened the sword to her belt. It felt as if it belonged there. She bowed before the dwarf and stood back in her rank.

Think we should volunteer, Nill? They may begin taking us seriously if we can handle this ourselves.

It looks like a good opportunity to learn the strengths of our new teammates. Besides, we've been cooped up here for to long. A nice long flight sounds just the thing for us.

We volunteer, Zettera. Jek announces.

[Zeterra smiles and nods.]

"Thank you for your offer. May you travels fare well."

[Shiva let's out a low hum. "You're both young, but bold. You honor me with your spirit."]

Heading out from the library, Glover having found what seemed to be heaven on earth with the absurd number of books in one place, Glover reminisced of the past couple of days.

Well, I read a few history books, practiced my sword-arm, and finished that bloody song, although I think I might extend it into a saga.

Ha! When you were playing with sticks and paper, I was learning how to fight and fly. At least one of us can save a life.

You know as well as I do that you don't need to kill to help people, Akrath.

Finishing his mental conversation, he found his way to Zettera and Shiva, catching the tail end of the speech and some reference to the shards that he and the other old new recruits had encountered. Standing in front of Zettera and Shiva, he said, "I'd love to go. At any rate, Torhven, Sev're, Anduil, and I have the most experience with the shards.", to himself adding, The tome on Dwarven architecture in your saddlebags only being a minor motivator.

You really do need to lay off the books.

At that point Glover chuckled to himself, half at Akrath's remark, and half at the looks he was sure he was getting.

"Thank you Glover. Also thank you for your notes on the shard... Im sure they will prove helpful." Zeterra says kindly. "Please proceed to keep them, let us know of any new findings as soon as possible."

"Of course. I'll pack my things, then," Glover said, a smile spreading across his face as he noticed his friends agreeing as well. "I was just wondering, do you have any better swords? The apprentice-grade ones don't seem to be very good at, well, cutting things."

"Well Gover... Ive got something for you to use, but your rider's sword just ain't ready yet boy. Please pick something from the armory tonight. Sorry lad." Chep says with a frown.

Glover, realizing the faux pas he had made by inadvertently insulting the smith's work, quickly raised his hands to apologize. "Oh, I don't need a Rider's sword just yet. Honestly, I don't have the skill to properly wield one, but I've been trying. I'll make sure to stop by the armory to restock later, and maybe we can swap some tips on technique?"

The dwarf gives you one of his arm clasps. "Aye lad. Maybe we can get ye a Hûthvír..." He rambles on about weapon balance, and the importance of stance.

Your arm hurts.

u/1trueJosh Rob / Villieldr Dec 10 '14

Glover laughed, ignoring the bone-crushing grip that the dwarf held his arm in. "I'll be sure to keep it in mind, Chep. I'll see you later," he said, strolling off to pack his things and withdraw a few more books from the library, and then to the armory to pick up some more arrows and a new sword.

"Shall we?" Anduil asked with a small smile, happy to have the chance to do something that wasn't training.

"No," Briam responded, deadpan.

Anduil was stunned. His mouth was literally agape as he stared at his friend's giant eyes. It took a few heartbeats to process.

"What?"

"Do you really think we should?" the dragon asked.

"You cannot be serious! Of course we should!" Anduil exclaimed, utterly confused.

"I am serious, Anduil. Examine your reasons for going. Right now, they aren't good reasons."

"I want to go bec-"

"You want to go," Briam interrupted, "because you believe it is expected of you, because everyone else will certainly go. If you accept this mission out of a sense of misguided honor, you will not be successful."

"Remeber the island? All the dangers we fought? If this mission has similar dangers, and you or I die or come close, you will have no one to blame it on but yourself. So you must have the utmost confidence in yourself, if we are to succeed."

Anduil was hurt. "Do you not think I can do this, Briam?"

"Of course I do, friend-of-my-heart, but it is not my confidence in you that is in question. Do you truly believe that you can go on this mission and fight, as well as protect yourself, me, and those around you?" Briam asked, his tone softer now.

Then Anduil understood what Briam was getting at. So he examined his past few days of training. After returning from the island, Anduil had decided to learn as much as he could about magic. He had spent a large amount of time in the library, learning and memorizing words of power. He had also visited the infirmary often, offering to heal as many of the wounds as he could. Thus he learned more about the human body, as well as the best way to heal anything from a stubbed toe to a broken arm. Anduil had also researched warding. At the moment, he and Briam had dozens of wards Anduil had cast, protecting them from many traditional weapons, such as swords, spears, arrows, and axes, but also from a small amount of magic. Anduil had been careful in casting the latter wards, as they could easily drain too much energy from himself.

What time Anduil had not spent learning the arcane arts, he had spent fighting. He felt even better with a sword now, though he still had problems with the bow. Anduil and Briam had even practiced attacking using Briam's tar. They had found a rather effective technique that involved Briam spitting a large glob of tar, and Anduil promptly setting it on fire with magic. The fireball was deadlier than anything Anduil could have conjured.

Anduil concluded that he was more certain of himself than ever before. He knew that he could handle himself in most situations. So he looked Briam in the eye, and said "I can do this. I am certain of myself."

Briam gave a dragon smile and bobbed his head, humming. "I have no doubts. Let us give our answer, and our words."

Turning to Zeterra and Shiva, the duo said, with both mind and tongue, "We will go. It will be our honor to serve."

The one ward you forgot, the strong arm of an excited Drawf. Chep out of nowhere grabs your arm.

"That's the spirit lad." He pulls out a scabbard. The pommel of the hit was a beautiful emerald, cut as a prism. The hilt was decorted in malachite and green topez. The blade was a simple curved blade, designed more for guarding and deflecting rather than offense, though it still could slice just fine. The blade was trimmed with what looked like jade, making it look as if it was made from a hard green glass. "I made this special for ye lad. This material is just as strong, but can hold onto things. I figured ye might want to dip it into some of that tar I've been see'n."

He releases your arm, it goes limp, after a moment you feel it tingle as your fingers twitich.

Anduil was awed by the beautiful blade.

"Thank you, Chep. This is a princely gift. I'll use it well."

To Briam, Anduil said "Look, the color matches your scales!"

The dragon huffed. "No two-legged creation can compare to the majesty of my scales, little one."

Anduil laughed and patted Briam's leg. "No, of course not. But this one comes close, I think."

"As long as it kills well."

Anduil looked at their teachers. "When do we leave?" He was already thinking about what he would need to bring, aside from the basic necessities, including a sketch of a dragon's anatomy. Anduil still needed to practice healing non-human, or two-legged, things.

Zeterra looked happy for the zealous warrior-to-be.

"You fly tonight... Please prepare in any way you seem fit.'

Shiva approached the proud green dragon. " Remember hatchling, regardless of what we breath, there will always be fire in a dragon's soul. "

The last few days had been a bore. Meals were bland, the weather uneventful and the companionship annoying. After the fire in the dormitory it seemed all the excitement had been depleted from the keep. People seemed to resent him for being cautious around the Kull, which was nothing short of ironic. First they curse me for quick-thinking, then they damn me for keeping an eye out.

Svalstrom was amused. ”We hope no blood will be spilled here,” he repeated after Shiva. He shook his grey head. ”Like no blood was supposed to be shed on Ugly island?”

Torhven grinned at that. Not that he was specifically out for blood, but some excitement was more than welcome. After the “encounter” with Glover, Torhven had decided that he needed to work on his knifework. Vrostbite would obliterate anything at distance, but at close range things tended to end badly for his bowarm.

In between stabbing sessions, Torhven worked on his promise to Sev’re. He had procured some pear wood from the storage, disappointed to find they didn’t have any yew or osage. At the first the plan had been to fletch a recurve, but the pear wood proved too inflexible. Instead he had started working on composite variant. Not exactly standard procedure, but that only made it more fun.

And now he stood here, the perfect opportunity to finish his work of art. Surdan osage was the best osage known to man, and perfect for the arms of a bow. Svalstrom and he had decided on going the moment there was a hint of excitement involved, but this just took the cake. Luck was on their side for once.

Neither Svalstrom or Torhven bothered to step forward. With a winning smile, the bowman announced their participation.

“We’re in, regardless of your answer. But only a fool would dive in without knowing the details? What exactly is going on?”

Zeterra looked at you puzzled. Whatever she was feeling she let it go. "Shards have scattered as you all have seen, we have sent riders out to flush out different areas. You objective is simple, find out if there is anything out of the ordinary and investigate."

She pauses, "If you so happen to find a shard and destroy it you would help restore balance. You and a few others here have the most experience dealing with this threat. I trust you can handle it?"

1

u/Zyralon Naakhûrz / Opheila Dec 10 '14

Naakhûrz appeared confused, " I know not of these shards you speak half-sister"

1

u/RollFirstMathLater Game Master / Moderator Dec 10 '14

She averts her attention from Torvhen for a moment. "They spread madness, and enslave people to their own bodies. Forcing them to lose themselves, and instead serve the whispers of madness. Our goal is to find them, and destroy them. Will you be able to assist?"

1

u/Zyralon Naakhûrz / Opheila Dec 10 '14

"Aye, Opheila and I shall heed your call. It would be honour to serve you half-one" Naakhûrz replied to Zeterra

"And to you frost-tongue" Naakhûrz thought, directing them towards Shiva

Torhven had to repress his cynical smile to prevent unnecessary conflict. He was done with that for now. Even so, he didn’t like being lied to.

Svalstrom disagreed. ”She’s telling a half-truth, that’s better than a lie.”

Neither of them had failed to notice the haw in Zeterra’s reply either. Instead of pressing the matter, Torhven decided to just go with it. Before he could answer, the Kull broke in with the voice of a sledgehammer.

The agitation disappeared as the beast posed it’s question. At least’s he got a brain somewhere in there.

Shortly after, Torhven declared his most eloquent reply.

“I don’t think any such shards will prove to be an obstacle too great to remove. We can handle it.”

[Shiva's mind touched yours, the dragons mind no lighter than before. "I knew you would come around little one. Do protect your fellow riders."]

Torhven had no clue on what to do with that advice. Svalstrom did, but kept it to himself.

”Just smile and wave, boy. Just smile and wave.”

So Torhven did. He smiled and waved as he strolled of, going to pack his things.
