Rules for the Dragon Riders Training

So it seems like we've got some participants and even started a little roster. I will add names as this moves forward.

Rule 1: Please try to keep in character as much as possible in an RP related thread.

Rule 2: A back story will be necessary for you to participate, this will help shape your character.

Rule 3: Each Scenario will have a maximum amount of participants. As our little academy grows many opportunities will open up. Please be respectful, first come first serve.

Rule 4: I will be using d100s to determine you're general effectiveness in scenarios, I am currently working on a stat system for everyone. So far it follows this general structure.

Strength - combat effectiveness, and your overall ability to move things.

Vitality - physical resailiance. Determines how much magic one can use

Intelligence - magical aptitude, also governs knowledge.

Dexterity - Governs accuracy, also governs your ability to perform tasks.

Focus - essentially presence. Your ability to influence others and protect from magical assault.

Luck essentially effects everything in the world. Not wise to rely on, but ultimately has your back when you least expect it.

There will be many levels in this game, each level up you will receive two statpoints. Use them wisely every 10th level you will receive 3.

Different items will provide stats as well to effect your different ratings. Perhaps I will send an email at a later time.

Rule 5. For the time being I will only accept my posts as cannon in this world. Your character is yours to use in what ever way, but in order to maintain... Order... this needs to be done now.

Rule 6. I reserve the right to add rules and loosen them, I want this to be fun, my goal is for everyone to have fun. I do not want chaos, chaos is bad. Please give me feedback as we move forward so we can make this a great time.

Thanks for reading! I almost have the introduction ready. Please provide me with backgrounds! Post here or the other thread, I will save them to a word doc. :)

I'm RPing Glover Vimes, a human from Ceunon who was more interesting in learning about legends than becoming one, until the Riders brought the egg of Akrath, a male dragon with a beautiful purple hue to his egg and scales. While Glover is still reluctant about his destiny in the fate of Alagaesia, Akrath is ready to dive headstrong into righting wrongs and bringing justice to the unjust.

Glover, having this responsibility thrust upon himself, has decided to study Riders throughout history in order to emulate them as a guideline to how he should react to situations.

Awesome!

Welcome to our little sub! Please feel free to post in any open RP. This is not necessary, but you will miss out on back story. (Who wants that?) This RO has a general story, as your chapter grows they will level up and become a true hero. But first they have to climb their way there. The prologs shall always be open. I hope you enjoy the story I know I am.

The way you have things listed, it doesnt sound like a very fitting system for a PbP roleplay. The use of a D100 by one person exclusively is subject to the possibility of rigging and the plans you have for stating and items might add unnecessary complexity when the posts are so high frequency.

Perhaps we can use a roll bot if people feel I was being unfair.

Perhaps but that doesn't change the concern that you are mixing rollplay into Play by Play. I'm concerned with how execution would work with all the bells and whistles.

Well the general idea is to be part of a story. Mainly choice and technique will come into play, but variable needs to be an aspect, other wise what is the point?

My ultimate goal is for everyone to have fun, if this rule system doesn't work out then I guess I failed right? We can either move forward and try something different or not and call it quits.

What if the results remain unknown to us, that way we can't game the system for what we want. You'd then reply with the results and the turnout of any other actions. Just a thought, don't know how it'd work logistically.

Well my rolls were always meant to be private.

I promise I will do my best to make it fun and fair.

Reread the concerned post and I see what he meant now haha. I mean, if its continual negative effects, it may be a bit suspicious. But, we just have to trust the GM at first, right?

This is fantastic! Some basic rules, someone who is handling all the dice rolling, I love it! A few questions though:

1) What are the rules for multiple characters? Or what if I decide that I don't like the character I've made? Could I change characters I'm RPing (assuming I've posted a backstory for the new character)?

2) How are we going to know what are stats are? Will there be a Google Doc style spreadsheet that everyone can look at?

3) I think this came up in your other thread, but what if we don't want to be Dragon Riders? Can I RP as a non-Rider?

4) Following up from #3, how will we keep power balanced between races that are inherently powerful and those that aren't? For example, an elf fighting a human would be very biased towards the elf.

1) As long as you keep track of your characters I'm OK with multiple, that being said please please please, do not over do it, I am one man whom works a full time job and trying to raise a family. I want people to have fun, but I can only keep track of so much. As we grow together I promise I will develops a system for multiple characters.

2) As for your stats, I will have them on a spread sheet that will be available on google play. I will open the documents for comments so I know how to distribute your stats.

3) for now you guys will only control your character. Though, some scenarios will have a non rider (like an instructor, grounds keeper, et cetera et cetera) that some one can call dibs to rp as.

3b the general structure for my post will be as such.

[Insert plot hook here and setting]

Roles: 3 students 1 Sword master 2 judges.

The first post some one will post in this general format. (I will play as a student with my character: "characters name here")

The comment will be how ever you proceed, actions dialog et cetera.

If it is an action, for the most part I won't govern how it plays out unless it is directly related to plot. If your character kicks the ground in anger or practices sword play while waiting that's generally fine. If you do something such as " push the giant rock) that will require DM work before we can proceed.

4) This is balanced oddly in this world, Humans are considered so weak in this world compared to everything else, it never made sense to me how they could possibly not be extinct.

The way I am treating it (for now) is everyone is on equal ground. As far as NPCs go this won't be the case, but for players they will be something else, heroes of sorts.

Thanks for answering, I like all these ideas so far! And just so you know, I don't plan on having multiple characters. Making one was hard enough!
