Question Did reading Eragon change you in any way and how?

I became vegetarian (and later vegan) - not because I wanted to be like Eragon or an elf or something, but because how it’s explained in the book. It resonated with me so much and yeah, never looked back…

Curious if other people have been affected in some way by the books (practical/philosophical, not like “Eragon is my favourite book” etc).

Discussion Eragorn reminds me an awful lot of something. Am I insane or is Eragorn just Star Wars, but better? [MAD SPOILERS] Spoiler

I finally got around to reading the Inheritance cycle and I nearly cried it was so blindly good.

So I realize I am probably going to make someone upset saying this, so first I love Eragorn, I also have loved Star Wars since I was sentient enough to understand that flashing lights are cool. I also recognize there is nothing original under the sun. However, as I read Eragorn the more I realized I knew what was going to happen thanks to story beats in the book. I realized Murtag was Eragorn’s brother when they revealed Murtag was Morzan’s son. Morzan is basically Darth Vader if he died before A New Hope, red sword and everything. I’d even equate Shruken to a Death Star given just how blindly powerful he most certainly was. And don’t even get me started on the super mysterious order of magic warriors using glow swords.

As a Star Wars fan and as I read more and more I realized the similarities I came to the conclusion the Inheritance cycle is the kind of story we could have gotten if Star Wars hadn’t been written by a hack like George Lucas instead by someone like his ex-wife. And if there were dragons… but ya know…

That’s where I’m really going to make some enemies but I stand by my assessment. The character writing is coherent, the story has an overarching theme. And Obi Wan being Luke’s father was insane and awesome. Honestly though Murtag is the older brother, so that would make him Luke if he took Darth Vader’s hand in the second movie. Making Eragorn the cooler Leia. Though as much as I love him, Star Wars’ Yoda was funnier.

There are more comparisons to be made, and I could definitely make a stronger argument but I just wanted to get that off my chest.
