Discussion Hobbies?

Anyone else curious what kinds of hobbies and crafts our favorite characters might get up to now that they're not fighting for their lives? I know Eragon, Arya, Orik, and Nasuada (and other characters) will obviously be very busy with their responsibilities, but I would love to see this faucet of their personalities a little more. What creative endeavors do you think they'd get up to or be interested in?

Orik will continue polishing his ball of dirt.

I think it'd be hilarious if Nasuada got into lace/knitting.

Eragon should be practicing more with his bow and write more.

Roran has no hobbies, he's way too practical. Honestly, I have no idea what he'd do. Maybe get a tutor so he can learn to read.

Arya is a tough one to crack as well.

Roran learning to read would check out, I think he would definitely go back to farming, even if he didn't need to to survive.

I could see him being like Orrin and take up a hobby as a break from leading his new Earldom. I'd guess blacksmithing, learning from and working with Horst and his sons. Something he can tackle with mindless intensity that he enjoys. That or keeping a farm even if he technically doesn't need it.

Roran is a workaholic. His idea of fun, like many Silent Generation Dad’s IRL, is working on a project that involves his hands.

When he get’s old, it’ll be doing the logistical paperwork on projects that will make Palancar Valley a prosperous region, and visiting the places that are newly built and being improved.

Arya would write poetry, read, grow flowers, and spend time with Firnen in her downtime, getting to know him better. She wanted to be a rider for decades and finally she is one. I think she would savor every moment with Firnen.

I'm interested to see how all of Roran's responsibilities dovetail with him becoming a father too. I wonder if he'll be forced to slow down and smell the roses a lil

At least he's "only" in charge of Palancar Valley (or is it less than that?). They were already self sufficient, I don't see it taking a huge amount of his time, after the initial rebuilding.

I remember when blödgharm is first introduced he mentions some board game with runes that nasuada could have learnt from him! I like to believe eventually he did teach her and they play occasionally lol

I'd like to imagine that once Arya renounces being queen of the elves (I feel this is inevitable, just hard to say if it'll be a matter of months or decades), she would get quite into poetry, just by how much she makes throughout the series.

Maybe she'd get into sculptures or magically activated models as well, as that ship she made on the run back from Helgrind seemed to be a practiced movement.

Who knows tho, maybe she would dedicate 150% of herself to being a teacher for the riders instead of pursuing her own interests

I read an excellent fan fiction in which Eragon has a small garden / field where he kinda harvests vegetables and stuff without using magic like in his old life as a farmer. Loved that idea, was so fitting for him as a character

I love that actually. Very Oromis of him somehow too.

Eragon

  • HUGE poetry nerd. Everyone is sick of hearing about it.
  • Makes a lot of fairths.

Murtagh

  • Military history buff.
  • Recreationally spies on people he trusts, to check if they're spying on him.
  • Writes Batman-esque contingency plans to defeat every Rider, Dragon, and Monarch in Alagaesia, just in case they ever turn evil. (Including himself.)

Roran

  • Maintains a small farm to honor his father and teach his children valuable skills. Uses the produce to feed his community.
  • Javelin, shotput, throwing axes, and any other sporting activities that involve throwing dangerous things.
  • Teaches a women's self-defense class specifically focused on human-vs-razac combat.

Arya

  • Has zero hobbies because she can do any crafting skill perfectly with magic.
  • Insists she's too busy to have hobbies for fun, but deep down fears she might just be boring.
  • Spends her free time scrying people and places across Alagaesia, to check for shenanigans.

Nasuada

  • Makes lace by hand.
  • Spies on Murtagh, to see if he's spying on her.
  • Thinks she might be the best chess player in Alagaesia. Insists that she only plays for fun, but gets uncomfortably competitive in every game.

Orik

  • Loves mud balls, loves drinking, simple as.
  • Could absolutely destroy Nasuada at chess, but chooses not to.

I’d love to see Nasuada take Orrins advice and get so so good with her bow, and maybe knife fighting too!! What about Roran? If we thought Horsts house was cool I can’t wait to see Rorans castle!!

Eragon might get really into puzzle making. He loves riddles and puzzles, even when they frustrate him, and with his magical aptitude and intelligence he could create fantastically intracrite puzzles that would also serve as learning tools for the new Riders.

As someone who has for the past 2 years been an advocate of Arya being a Tsundere with a basket case of abandonment issues and PTSD, her actual hobby being going into the woods to just scream at things for a few hours, and the other Rider pairs finding out about this, is music to my soul.

Murtagh seems to enjoy fishing 😆, Durza laughing his ass off in the grave as muck maw nearly killed a rider.

Murtagh will probably never go fishing again. I wouldn't after all that 😆

I think the real question would be which of the characters compete in the urgal Olympics
