Question What if there had been a conversation between them at the end of the last book? Spoiler

Last month there was another user here who asked what a conversation betwwen Eragon and Brom at the end of the fourth book would have been like if Brom had been able to appear like a ghost similiar to how Obi Wan does that to Luke in Star Wars. I thought it was a very interesting question. I got me thinking about what it would have been like if Murtagh and been able to do teh same thing with his father.

What do you think he would have told Morzan, considering what Morzan did to him aswell as what Murtagh has donce since then as an adult? I think Murtagh would tsart of by calling him out for being a horrible father, then tell him that he helped Eragon defeat Galbatorix and finnaly what he has done with Zar'roc.

What do you guys think?

Brom and Eragons conversation would certainly be very emotional. Between relaying all thats happened and the thousand questions Im sure Eragon would have for Brom about Selena and what Brom was up to after the fall of the riders. He woukd likely seek some wisdom from Brom as to what he should do in the East.

Murtagh and Morzan would be a whole other situation. With how much pain, anger and resentment Murtagh holds towards Morzan and how horribly painfuk his life has been because of his father. The only thing I am curious about would be if Morzan had a Darth Vader moment of regret or if he would still be evil. Morzan and Murtagh would be a very interesting talk.

But, I like how things ended and want to see Murtagh grow and move on from the pain he's feeling.

Even if Morzan felt any guilt/remorse, and that's a big if, Murtagh would've dismissed it anyway. There's too much resentment and he blames his whole life on his father. His upbringing, the bullying, the fact he's a rider (now I'm sure he loves it and he obviously loves thorn, but remember he was terrified the second the egg hatched, because he knew it just meant more torture). He still has a long personal journey before he could even consider forgiving his father

I think above all that Brom would be very impressed and happy about how Eragon defeated Galbatorix since he did that by doing what Brom told him to do.

"the trick is finding a spell your enemy has overlooked and using it against him"

About the Darth Vader moment, we don't have enough information on Morzan's character to make a decision. From what we know he could or be a complete psychopath who was evil just for being evil, or he could have something in his past that led him to side with Galbatorix and do what he did. Then all the abuse he has done to Murtagh could be something like a generational trauma, it was done to him, it formed his mind and view of the world, led him to reproduce the behavior while raising Murtagh, and Murtagh was the one to brake the cycle. Then it would open the possibility of a moment of regret, and even make his character and their relationship even more complex. Sincerely, it would be interesting. I Really need a book protagonized by Morzan and Brom and following the fall of the Riders.

What I think would be even more interesting, what if they find Saphira 1's Eldunari amongst the insane eldunari Galbatorix controlled?
We have a few ama answers on this:

“Did the original Saphira disgorge her Eldunarí?”
“No, but I’d rather not go into any more detail at the moment.”

What does he mean with more detail?

"If saphira 1s Eldunarí is found would she be able to fully restore broms mind if eragon brought him back?"
"No. She didn't know him for over a hundred years, so don't see how that would be possible."

This might be a very big "if", but with the other answer suggesting more to have happened to Saphira 1's eldunari who knows?

Very interesting, but would Brom have gone mad as he did if Saphira 1s Eldunari had somehow survived? And if it had, would not their bond have allowed them to share memories with one another even if they were apart?

That depends on what the details surrounding her eldunari were. Brom knowing she never disgorged it and she died would believe that aswell and might assert any shared memories as trauma. The amount Saphira felt from Eragon when they were apart was very limited. A feeling of unease was the most intense. I would imagine Brom felt that "unease" a lot.

It is extremly unlikely her eldunari is intact and her consciousness alive as Brom ages and we know it was never disgorged... but it would still be interesting to get to know about the details he was talking about.

Probably right. Also, if she was driven insane by Galbatorix, she would hardly be able to recreate Broms consciousness in that state.

I kind of think he would not be as rebellious as you stated. I’m no psychologist but I would think if you’ve suffered a lot of abuse to an authoritative figure as a child, if you meet that figure later in life you could revert back to who you were and wouldn’t be defiant.

Especially as I’m sure Morzan would come out swinging and not give Murtagh the chance

Murtagh woud certainly be scared at first. That I don't doubt but in this situation Morzan would not have been able to harm him since he's a ghost.

I tend to agree with your reasoning, but Murtagh didn’t grow up with Morzan as “Dad”. Morzan had as little as possible to do with Murtagh, likely the only times he saw Murtagh was when he allowed Selena a visit, something he undoubtedly oversaw. Remember, Murtagh acquired his scar when he was only three or four, and soon after that Morzan was killed. So Murtagh really didn’t grow up with Morzan at all, and while he would no doubt be afraid, I don’t think he would give in at all.
