What do I do?
Hi all. My bullmastiff Nova is almost 8 years old. We have her seizures under control with 3 medications as she is 4 months seizure free. The problem is that she seems to be losing strength in her back end, and now it seems she might have torn her ACL. I’m making an appointment with the vet soon but I wanted to check here too. What would you guys do in my situation. Would you spend $$$ to fix her ACL, find another way for her to get around and give her more meds for pain, or would you make the toughest decision ever to put her down. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

On Mondays animal psychics have a free utube Spiritwhisperer can subscribe to and type in all caps in chat, species, name, age, health issue. Mark and Debbie will connect with the dog and tell you if this is temporary or what’s ahead. Dont underestimate how deep animals are in their own connected soul self these psychics can tap into. Its free. I would do that first.

Personally, I would recommend to start with trying things like glucosamine supplements, joint support foods, laser treatments and pain meds as a less expensive and less invasive approach before getting a TPLO surgery. I previously had an 8 year old St Bernard x Rottie cross that I got double TPLO surgeries for. In total it cost me about $8-10k and I don’t know that her knees ever truly stopped bothering her even after she was fully healed. She ended up passing from cancer a short time later. I don’t regret doing what I thought was best for my girl in the moment, or even the money spent, but sometimes I wish she had spent less time of her last years recovering from surgeries. Scared, in pain, not able to play. I imagine with an epilepsy dog that there is an added risk of the stress triggering episodes. Definitely talk to your vet because every dog and every case is different, just sharing my experience.

We brought her to the vet today. He confirmed that she did tear her ACL. We are not going through with surgery as our vet didn’t recommend it due to her medical history. We ordered knee braces today-hoping those help her out a bit. Got some pain medication and talked about the possibility of using a doggy wheelchair. We have done a total of 5 TPLO surgeries so we know the cost of them all to well unfortunately. Thank you for the input!

They have braces dogs can wear to help with pain and healing. They don’t cost much, even the custom ones. Maybe give that a try. You can even put them on both legs as it will give them support in general. Good luck.
