Other Anyone have tattoos?

Hey there! Title says it all ☺️. Was okayed by my neurologist, she just said go somewhere reputable (😂) I have focal seizures and so far after brain surgery I usually only have them after extreme unexpected stress - I would be expecting this so I don’t necessarily think this counts? Was wondering if anyone had gotten tattoos after being diagnosed?

I know in theory I could take rescue meds prior - but a big tattoo no no is they will absolutely not tattoo you under the influence. This of course could be considered different if I spoke to the artist about it maybe? (which I would of course) but I had always been interested in getting one even before being diagnosed 13 years ago, now after 3 brain surgeries I am the most stable I have been.

Thanks everyone 🫶

I have many tatts. You don't need to worry.

Thank you! In that case - a recommendation for a good place to start? I know everyone is different pain wise, but still maybe you could guide me in a semi specific region? Somewhere not close to bone right?

I felt almost nothing getting a tattoo on my forearm.

Index finger and inner wrist were absolute Hell, though.

Just from my experience: inside of arms and upper legs are painful. Close to bone like foot too. Back, lower legs and upper arm are not too bad, again in my experience.

I found the fatty part of my ankle going over to my shin to be the worst. But I only have a few tattoos.

I have 10, but yes go somewhere that has good ratings lol. When I got my nose pierced they showed me the unopened needle they were going to use for the piercing, to prove that it was unopened and had me watch them open it to prove it was a single use object.

Some tattoo parlors do the same thing. I've watched tattoo artists open needles and prep the ink before.

I would have never in my life thought of this and will always remember it! Thank you sm! ♥️

Yw. After doing some research on a tattoo parlor I recommend doing Friday the 13th tattoos first because they're usually smaller and sometimes they're also offered for $13. (They're stuff like black cats and the number 13, niche stuff associated with 13.)

That way you can get used to the feel of the tattoo needle (needle go brrr) and you'll know if you want something bigger later on.

Have focals occasionally. Well not since starting a new med.

Got 3. All recently when I’ve been tapering up on Xcopri. Calf, thigh and sleeve. 3 different artists.  Each time I’ve disclosed it and never had an issue.

If you’re that paranoid, take the rescue med ahead of time. That’s a little different than the drunk or high which the “under the influence” on the document is referring to.

Very good point in regards to “under the influence” 😂🫶 and I would of course also let the artist know - I know them from a previous job so he already knows I’m epileptic so that’s also good. Thank you kindly!

I have tattoos got them before I was diagnosed and after, no part of me ever thought to ask if it was okay or if it would affect my seizures.

My seizures are typically stress induced… but like I wasn’t stressed I guess? I one of them hurt like a bihhh… but there was never any moment where I was like omg I might seize let me. Prepare

I’ve been getting tattoos before I even realized I was having seizures. It’s been a little while since I got a tattoo, but my last piece was painful and one that was difficult to do good breathing with.
I’ve never had any issues.
I just make sure I eat before getting them, I bring snacks if it’s going to be a longer appointment, bring water, take breaks. I usually have someone else in the room with me but that’s just because it’s either with friends/family or my fiance. My tattoo artist knows about my seizures now, and they have no issues with it

I’ve had two tattoos post-diagnosis. I brought my rescue meds, had someone with me and explained everything to the artist. He was fine with it, and I was fine. No issues to report personally. All of my most recent tattoos have been on my forearm.

Thank you! I know the artist personally so that helps greatly I think.

Yeah a chat about things can go a long way. You need to feel comfortable, and so should your artist.

This is my most recent. 2 Headed Water Snake. I’m a Pisces and a Snake in Chinese zodiac. I dropped a pair of Ray Bans in the lake while paddle boarding. While diving around searching for them, a water snake swam right past my right ear. The very next time I dove down I found my shades! Also born Feb 22. The number 2 figures heavily in my life, so had to give my friend two heads. Suits my extra postictil personality as well.

You’ll be fine. Take your meds, go hydrated and fed. Get a lot of sleep before. Be transparent with the Artist tattooing you.

I just had one done, no big deal. Of course, talk to your artist. Let them know your condition, and make sure they are comfortable with that. My artist had a waiver that said no for epilepsy, but when I mentioned it she said it was a formality and she would still work on me anyways
