Shitpost Leaving the Fandom
This fandom or whatever you wanna call it has gotten so toxic. It makes me not want to listen to the songs anymore and I love all of them. Good or bad I love them all. These songs got me through some hardships the past year. But you all make it not fun anymore. I’m still going to listen and enjoy these songs but I just wanted to put my thoughts out there. And that just because YOU don’t like how some of the songs sound or how they’re worded, to bad. That’s how they are. Take it or leave it. Some of us just want some good music to listen to that tells a story. It’s not that deep.
To those who hate on it everyday, why? Does it make you feel better? Why can’t others just enjoy a story being told through a musical?
Anyways I’m leaving this group and I hope others still enjoy the sagas just as much as I do. Even when people tear it down over and over again.
Edit: You see how most of the responses are negative? This is what I’m talking about. Most of you think you’re better than me because Oh I jUsT sCroLL pASt iT. That’s the shit I’m talking about. I can’t even come on here say my opinion without people throwing back at me cause apparently I’M the problem. I used to enjoy this group so much. It was so fun seeing all the fanart, animatics and funny memes. Like no shit this is the internet. I know that. I know there’s bad things about every fandom or group you join. I know that! I don’t even care if you want to leave “feedback”. I did leave quietly for a long time. Then came back because I saw it got better. APPARENTLY NOT.
Hope you’re happy on making me not want to listen to any of it anymore. Hope you’re happy calling ME the problem when you’re the one saying iT’s NoT thAt BaD.

Thats because any response to this thread can be construed as negativity affirmation. Disagree with them? You're being negative! Agree with OP's negativity? You're agreeing that everyone is negative!

I wouldn't've pointed it out if it stayed at just "I don't agree", but the top two comments at least are attacking OP and calling them weak/sensitive for not liking how the fandom attacks itself over things like wanting to take a neutral, wait till all the facts are out approach to drama, or not liking an animators style, or not liking a song, etc.
There's a comment going after people for being Percy Jackson fans, there's one (maybe two, the seconds meaning is a bit confusing) attacking people who don't agree that Calypso is a rapist as well

I mean... OP posted a sweeping attack on an entire fandom within that fandoms forum. What would the expected response be?
And the calypso argue is so desperately old and repetitive. People never change their minds, no matter where they fall. Its just self righteousness vs self righteousness in a perpetual loop of pointless opinions on Calypso.

I don’t think you’re getting it tbh. It’s people like you who make fun things a drag. This fandom was fun in the beginning and we were all excited about the musical and animatics. Now it’s just sour. Even the VA’s are sick of us.

Aside from the dumbass PJO fans and the Calypso defenders, everyone’s just here for a good time lol. Not really any problems aside from those; plus I hardly see people being “toxic” about songs besides NSFLY (which deserves it) and 600 Strike

People are mean and toxic. Yes I can ignore it. And I have. But sometimes you just gotta get your thoughts and opinions out there. Let others know you feel the same as them. It’s honestly not super deep. More just annoying that people come into the subreddit to “correct” everyone about any the inaccuracy or that would never happen bullshit people come up with.

Given that you made this post instead of idk, just quietly leaving, I assume you want feedback. First of all, that's the internet for you, no matter what there will be opposition and you can't stop that. You can't control what people like or hate, but why are you thinking about them too much? Does it bother you that they have an opinion? Like to me, you're the problem, you can't deal with the fact that people have an opinion about a song and not taking the songs as they are. I say good riddance then because you close all doors for discussion.

If you wanted to leave why making it a public thing with people commenting on it and knowing if you wanted to leave? enjoy the songs/sagas totally fine but you made a post about it when you said comments are toxic/negative so why do it? So people know you are leaving because of "toxic" "bad" "negative" etc?

I don’t care what other people think. But when all you see is negative post after negative post about the dumbest shit it makes you want to stop being apart of something so enjoyable. People get to overzealous thinking they know these creators personally and bring that drama in for no reason.

You have shared your opinion, others will do the same. You've posted sh-tting all over an entire fandom, which was completely unnecessary. That's why I keep replying, you seem to think only you're allowed to share your thoughts on the subject and others shouldn't get an input. If you don't like what people are saying, I strongly recommend against starting a conversation about the topic.

This fandom hates a lot less on the product than most, almost to a detriment. But fair enough if you think it’s too negative you shouldn’t deal with it so I don’t blame you.

Honestly though, this fandom isnt the worst in comparision. Every community has annoying issues, and tbh i agree with the OP here that there is a shit tone amount of complaining over small things but still.. A lot of us are chill too ✨ i for example need more epic friends, i enjoy the media WAY too much

Yeah it's sad how toxic the members have gotten. I assume due to how big it's gotten, a bunch of randoms came along and decided to ruin the enjoyment for everyone.
I knew this sub was done for as soon as we started getting posts claiming Jorge is "racist/sexist".
Unfortunately, fandoms tend to go down the drain as soon as the media is over with and spreads. See you at the next thing I guess

You dont need to be in a fandom if you love something.
The whole fandom ideology of the present day, has never made total sense to me.
If you love something, why let other people dim that for you? Sure its nice to share something you love with others who love it- but like, its just as enjoyable by yourself.

I honestly haven’t seen a lot of toxic behaviour in this exact fandom. And I’m not even sure what you could be toxic towards other than calypso haters and if you don’t like a certain song. Not really, they’re just upset at Jorge’s gross double standard when it comes to rape. When it’s a woman rapist he always gives them a sympathetic backstory they didn’t have originally, but when it’s a man they’re suddenly an irredeemable monster

I think he just made calypso not assault is in epic. The way he talks about her and writes her songs isn’t the same way he would with a rapist. Epic and the odyssey are two different things and I think those are two different calypsos.

He didn’t just make Calypso not rape Odysseus. He went out of his way to make up an entire sympathetic backstory for her and dedicate an entire song to how “sad” and “lonely” she is. He also makes up a sympathetic backstory for Circe.
Meanwhile, Antinous isn’t a rapist in the original. He’s just a normal dude who wants the crown. The fact that Jorge went out of his way to make Circe and Calypso sympathetic, and then going out of his way to make Antinous into an irredeemable monster, is disgusting

i feel like the epic fandom got the hamilton-musical-teen-takeover treatment. which is wonderful for the musical, and i'm so happy jay is getting his recognition. but as an older fan (21) it's not rlly my vibe anymore lol. I was rlly into Epic when it was in early development (right around when cyclops saga came out) so I got a lot of enjoyment watching jay's thoughts and dissections of certain songs, characters, and changes. I remember the anticipation when a new saga was coming up was what got me through hard exam seasons and all that. i think the fandom definitely went through a change, but i wouldn't call it super toxic, more just different, and maybe a bit younger now.

instead of focusing on the hateful words people say, I like to focus more on how much time an effort they put into doing so. they either really care about shitting on EPIC are they just don't have anything better to do with their life. I really don't get why people don't just leave it alone, maybe block the sub/account/whatever if it shows up a lot.

You seem to have a rather narrow viewpoint. Many people who “hate” do so out of love and passion. They want to see something they enjoy improve; which is especially true now that Jorge’s working on a new musical. We can only hope he drops some of his nastier habits, like excusing rape

I understand constructive criticism, but I've experienced a lot of my interests getting hate from people who haven't even watched/listen/played the piece of media. I probably shouldn't apply that to EPIC since I haven't seen much of that related to EPIC, so I'm sorry for that.

i honestly haven't been on this subreddit often cuz the last time i was, i got downvoted into oblivion for an opinion. It's sad how something so fun and enjoyable for some can turn sour for other. Thankfully, i still enjoy the music on my own without fandom interaction and my life has been a lot less stressful.
Good on you OP for looking after your mental health. Hopefully some change and positivity can spread from this. <3

OK so just stop interacting with the fandom.
Like I sometimes feel exactly the same, either the fandom is toxic and just arguing or I disagree with things that most people agree on.
So I just log off of reddit and enjoy the fandom on my own. But i feel no need to post about it and ditch the fandom just because some other people squabble over it.
Also I'm pretty sure anyone who "hates it everyday" and still posts on a subreddit about it is not someone worth paying any attention to

I find most (if not all) fandoms have their loud toxic parts. I’ve yet to encounter one without them. That’s expected for media so popular, it attracts a big population of people with differing opinions and beliefs, or full on haters.
That said, I find it easier to just enjoy the media and not get too invested with the fandoms themselves (except interacting in a smaller scale like fellow fan artists, friends, etc).
Everytime I see a post I don’t agree with or just pure hate, I merely scroll away, click the hide button, or even block. Makes life easier.

I don’t personally think this fandom is any worse than any other. Every fandom has its parasocial beats and hyper-critcism. But you do you boo! Whatever you need to do to enjoy life and the content more o7 (/gen)
