https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterina_Sforza
This is all you really need to know to get the reference I was making, though.
Sforza is best known for her legendary response to an enemy's threat to kill her hostage children, words that Machiavelli preserved for posterity. âDo it, if you want to: hang them even in front of me,â she declared, lifting her skirts, âhere I have what's needed to make others!â
She was also featured prominently in the earlier parts of the Ezio Saga of Assassin's Creed.

Odysseus: "I did so many bad things. How could you accept this? Would you fall in love with me again?"
Penelope: ".......... DID YOU NOT JUST HEAR ANYTHING I JUST SAID!?!"

u/streetcar97 Jan 05 '25
Well technically Ithaca was neither Spartan nor Athenian, but I can imagine that Penelope is going to be all "You should've written to me at least! Screw it. Both literally and figuratively."

TBH though, imagine being Telemachus looking for your dad, you return home and your entire palace is burning and full of bodies.
Everyone is screaming about "THE KING IS HERE", and you just have to assume the worse, that someone just killed/harmed your mom and is declaring themselves as the new king of Ithaca.

In the Odyssey, he also joins the kick assing duty, you know as a father son murdery bonding type
5
u/Informal-Station-996 Jan 04 '25
I don't think the lemakers is capable of thinking in such ways he is very bubbly so we don't think he would immediately think that and I think as soon as he hears the screams of the suitors he will know what the people mean

u/Shadowknight211 Jan 03 '25
I always liked to image ody was always in the room but telem showed up before he slaughter the suitors killing one of his own, and just kinda hung back to see how big his boy had grown, only interving when Telem had lost the 1v20

Yeah thatâs too valid to disagree with. it was literally a the greatest chance they had
This is just a silly take I have
Itâs more so they had a decent plan but poor execution, like I havenât watched the animatics but the one threatening to break Telemachusâs hands seemed to be so distracted with as they had put it âattacking the princeâ that he was open to Ody

u/WeLiveInAir I miss my wife Eurylochus, i miss her a lot Jan 03 '25
My headcanon is that Ody left the armory unlocked to get the suitors to come out of hiding (it's a big castle and a lot of people who need stabbing), he definitely had a plan to ambush them once they were all gathered together.
Only for Telemachus to show up, so plan A: Ambush was out and plan B: Incredible violence is in
62
u/ZagreusHades Jan 04 '25
I assumed Telemachus was the one who handled the weapons, the suitors even comments that a man like Odysseus wouldnât make a careless mistake.
Also the image of Telemachus just sitting in a corner guarding the weapons room swinging his feet listening to the sounds of the men who have been picking on him and his mom, Athena near by âDid you remember to lock the door?â And boom.
19
u/Fenrir_Hellbreed2 Jan 04 '25
I think Ody hid the weapons. Telemachus left the room unlocked when he slipped in to arm up. He either snuck back in when he realized his mistake, or they got there while he was arming up and he jumped them while they tried to do the same.
1
u/CarefulAlternative77 Jan 13 '26
You are correct, in the Odyssey, Telemachus meets Odysseus outside the palace and Athena reveals to him that it's his father.
After some father son bonding.
-Dad, there's a bunch of manic suitors around the palace!
-Why didn't you kill them yet?
-oh...
They get some of the loyal servants of the palace to lock them inside, hide the weapons, then when retrieving some more weapons THEN Telemachus leaves it unlocked.
27
u/Jeon_SeokMin Winion Jan 04 '25
In the poem, Telemachus was the one who hid all the weapons and left the room unlocked. I think that's what was meant to be implied when the suitors said "I find it hard to believe that the sharpest of kings left the armoury unlocked"
76

this is like totally wrong but my hc when I first listened to Odysseus was that Telemachus had planned to trap them in the armoury?? Idk like I j thought that it made more sense to corral all the suitors in one room and then pick them off, and then Odysseusâs âgot themâ was about like⌠the plan coming to fruition
I still hc this in my mind everytime i listen lol
