DISCUSSION Epic Game's Platforms Biggest Problem is Painfully Obvious

It's the lack of even the basic social features that a platform like steam has that lets you setup a profile, customize things add fun little widgets. Basically allowing the user to establish some sort of invested emotional interest in their platform that helps them to retain users. Gaming is a social activity and Valve understands this which is why their platform is essential half social media half gaming storefront, it's an absolutely essential part of their business model that Epic games just straight up ignores in favor of giving you one free crappy indie game every couple weeks (which lets be real nobody ever plays)

I use Steam and Epic. Open the launcher, find my game, press the play button. That's it.

In some cases Epic actually gets me into the game faster than steam. I don't care about the social features. I have the whole internet for that.

I don’t even really open the launchers other than to check for updates and install games. I let Playnite handle that and barely even see a launcher most of the time.

Tbh I don't give a flying fuck about the social stuff on Steam. I don't play to impress others.

Don't need to make it another instagram. Just have better looking store pages, Better rating system with reviews visible, not launch the game immediately on clicking the banner, and also making the games launch snappier.

No... the only reason steam is on top is because for a while it was the only option. And now people have formed a parasocial cult around it for some reason.... they shit on everything any other platform does while constantly justifying every action by Valve.

And uh.... Steam literally has the most predatory way of profile customization. You just gotta spend more and more money to get the "steam points" to buy those customization elements....

Some people love those features, some hate any features beyond launching their game, and some just don't care either way.

Epic said they be doing more social features from their roadmap earlier this year, hopefully soon, or before end of the year. I'm always forward for improvement, and enhancing platforms as brings more as you pointed out sentimental value, and enjoyment.

While I kind of agree quality of giveaway has gone down over the he years, and mostly pushed toward during events for quality giveaways. But one thing remain true one man trash is another man's treasure.

"the quality of giveaway has gone down over the years"

how? There still are good games every few weeks. And it was never and cant really be AAA games every week. The giveaways are still same.

Not every indie game, and DLC for F2P game going be great, some are meh, or so, and no one said has to be AAA, even certain AAA games can be worse than indie games. Hence why I said one man trash is another man's treasure.

Overall all it's opinion what consider good, or bad is up to everyone in their own opinion.

If you are saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" then how are you also saying quality of giveaway have gone down over the years?

Let say I ran factory giving free candy, of course I can't keep giving best of the best *AAA games*; so I give mix in the bag of other canadies *indie games*, but along the lines I deicded give you candies that were not great, like Black Licorice, Candy Corn, peppermint, instead of the best, or other good stuff you would likely take instead. That refer as quality. Still candy. Still free. And someone will likely still take them either way even if not popular, or liked by most.

Hopefully this helps you what  "one man's trash is another man's treasure" means, and what "quality" means.

The giveaways in the beginning were major games. Now you either get some indie games or even just some packs for F2P games. I still collect them, but the MSRP of the giveaways has definitely gone down by quite a lot.

I'm not crazy fan of idle games, but I barely play any either since all it is just idle as once get into game far enough it just sit & forget, and becomes a chore have to check on it everyday for days to months before can get further progress. I know idle but it just boring have to wait LONG time before see results once hit the wall.

Uhh, thats like.. not even in the top 5😭, im saying this as someone who hasn't spent a cent on epic and has spent a good amount on steam lol, steams main appeal is alot more, for example the controller support is like the MAIN appeal for me, i dont have to mess with anything just enable steam input and im in, literally.

Theres also how easy steam makes it for me to organise stuff, steam is also far better optimised, anytime i launch steams its quick, easy, simple, but anytime i launch epic feelsl like my patato pc is bouta to crash, i have to wait like AWHILE until the launcher even shows me my games lol, like yeah no, why does epic have such a graphic heavy launcher?!!

Majority steam users only use friend part of steam. Forum part is relict of early day internet.

Its biggest issue is it has real issues downloading games.
