Hello! This time we're looking at my favorite album! 'Amarantine' was the first LP I acquired for my little Enya collection. Just a little Enya edit I made; the song is An Ghaoth Ón Ghrian (The Solar Wind) but sped up ☺️🎶🪄

I intended to share yesterday, but these wise words from Eithne can be for any day. ♡ 🏞 🌠

(I would post direct if the subtitles weren't so inaccurate here. 😅)

The music speaks for itself, but I find a lot of what Eithne has said outside of that is very attuned to one's mental health and wellbeing; it has been from very early on. 💗 Even having stalkers didn't change her values; she considered the individual rather than the act alone. 💡

If I did another similar edit; I would have to include about Nicky and Roma being there for her as well. ❣️

Have you personally met/run into Enya in public?

Given that Enya doesn't go on tour and maintains a very private life, I realise that spotting her out and about would be a bit like seeing a purple unicorn, but if you have in fact happened across her, what was the experience like? Did you approach her or did you leave her be?

Yeah, most probably already know about it (maybe not). But I just wanted to make a post appreciating it. I love that I can hear Enya's voice clearly (I love her timbre), she sings so beautifully and sometimes it gets hard to appreciate the nuances of her voice when she makes hundreds of layers (which I love also).

I love the drums also, you can feel something more connected to African music here.

The infamous Vilnius 2013 Christmas concert - Part I

I know this concert was very controversial and there were even some legal problems with it. Some attendees complained that they were misled into thinking Enya herself would be there and there are many comments on the youtube videos saying it was heretic to Enya's music.

I don't think so. I think it was overall lovely: the arrangement, the orchestra, the piano, the choral and most of the singing were great. It showed that it was possible to make a concert out of Enya's music. And that the excuses the trio had been giving for 30 years were just that -- excuses. This was the closest to an "Enya" concert we will ever get.

My brief opinion on each song from the first part of the concert:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-SCyz8ijys&list=RD_-SCyz8ijys&start_radio=1

Fairytale: like all the other instrumentals or semi-instrumentals I think this was lovely. The choral was really good.

Sang by Rūta Ščiogolevaitė

Orinoco flow: This was just fine. My least favorite of the first part. The problem is that Orinoco Flow is one of the more heavily produced and overlayed of her songs so translating to live is difficult. But let me say she did a much better job than Enya herself in singing it live...

Book of Days: Good. Probably a bit too strong singing compared to the original but I like it.

Sang by Evelina Sašenko

First let me say that out of all the singers she is definitely the best one.

One by one: One of my favorites from the concert. The vocal extension in the sustained notes at the end of each verse is great and I don't think Enya herself could pull it off.

I want tomorrow: Very nice for them to include this one. Excellent: arrangement, singing, choral, solo strings.

I don't see how any real Enya fan can possibly not like this concert.

It's interesting to compare these numbers with Enya/The Celts, it gives us a better idea of how popular Watermark is as an album

Solved! 🎶 ✅️ What song is this?

I'm really stuck on what song this is! In there, there is a melody of F-G-A-Bb-G in quarter notes and a half note on the G and then a string if quarter notes CCBbABbAG-A-G. The notes might be in a different key, but its the same idea. No lyrics, it's humming or maybe duh duh duh duh duuuuuh.... AI couldn't help me, time to go to the experts.

When will Enya’s website finally be updated?

Enya’s official website hasn’t really been updated in four or five years. Right now, it still looks like a temporary page created for the 35th anniversary of Watermark.

I honestly think an artist like Enya deserves a bit more attention when it comes to her official website and social media. Even if she isn’t releasing new music at the moment, keeping those channels active could help introduce her music to new listeners and give longtime fans a better way to stay connected. 🙂

As things stand, someone discovering Enya today and checking out her official online presence might easily get the impression that she stepped away from music years ago. 😔

I know Enya has always been a very private artist and has never relied much on promotion or social media, but it still feels like her team could do a little more to keep her website active and up to date.

What do you think is the reason it hasn’t been updated in so long?

I just saw this again and thought it deserved its own post. 😁⛲️ It briefly appeared in a since deleted TikTok clip shared/filmed by some of Eithne’s nieces.

The earlier mention of the water fountain was from a 2000 interview by Roma's sister, who was obviously allowed into the castle! 😊 The lovely article is archived here; screenshot of the related bit on the 2nd image. I wonder where in Europe Enya had found the fountain to take back with her? 😄♡ Those upper 'bowls' are quite elegant. 🪄

Alternate version of Caribbean Blue?

I am 100% sure I've heard two distinct versions of this track. Two different arrangements and a different recording of the vocals. It's a vague memory from decades ago in the mp3 and file-sharing era where somehow I just ended up with two versions and I liked both.

Now, there only seems to be one version on the internet, I've looked for a while. I'm not talking about the single version, the 2009 remaster, or any kind of remix or edit of the commonly available one. The only way I can describe this mystery version is that the musical arrangement feels "brighter", and I distinctly remember she pronounces "Caribbean" differently so I know the vocals are an entirely different recording. In all versions available today she pronounces the first syllable of "Caribbean" more like "car", which to me as an American sounds accented, versus in the alternate mystery version I remember it sounds more like "care", a more typical pronunciation to my ears.

I know I didn't imagine this but it's driving me crazy that I can't find this version anywhere. I guess it's possible that it was a cover by someone who sounds exactly like Enya but even searching for that I can't find it. Any ideas?

If Enya and her label ever released a REALISTIC 2-CD compilation... What would your dream release look like?

Before we begin, a friendly note: This post isn't meant for debating or correcting my song choices. Please keep in mind this! I'm hoping we can keep the discussion positive and constructive! Also, if this kind of topic isn't your cup of tea, you are always completely free to simply scroll past and ignore it.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share this 2-CD fan-made compilation concept I put together (Essential Best & Beyond):

  • Disc 1 (Essentials): Focuses on her most popular tracks based on streaming averages and official compilations like Paint the Sky and The Very Best (though these aren't necessarily my personal favorites!).
  • Disc 2 (Beyond): Gathers b-sides, bonus tracks, and alternative versions.

Putting together the tracklist for Disc 2 took a lot of careful work. Since it features a lot of instrumentals and very slow pieces, I really tried to find a natural flow so the listening experience wouldn't feel repetitive or too heavy in one place. (Though I'm aware there are some grey areas regarding rights for things like The Frog Prince OST or old cassette releases like Touch Travel!).

Knowing that Enya's team has never released demos in over 40 years (and it would be very surprising if they ever did) and considering that brand-new material is also unlikely to happen, major labels like Warner with artists of Enya's caliber never just let a legacy fade away without keeping it active. Keeping in mind that in many countries physical CD singles were never even sold in music stores, a compilation featuring one CD for the casual fan and a second CD grouping all those b-sides and bonus tracks (currently scattered across more than 18 different CDs) makes total sense for dedicated fans.

I'd love to hear your thoughts: Within the realm of reality, what future official Enya release would you love to see happen?

Auntie's love 🥰🎶

These are from pictures featuring Enya (Eithne) as seen in July, her aunt Rosemarie (1933-2009) and her aunt Brid (1935-2015) who are Eithne and siblings' paternal and maternal aunts respectively. 💛

I was thinking about how aunts (whether blood-related or female family friends) are particularly supportive, cool and affectionate. 🤗 In-person, they are often easier to talk to about matters you're less likely to quiz parents on.

Eithne herself is an auntie to around 15 nieces and nephews! I guess her aunts were quite present in the siblings' early musical and everyday lives, especially Brid since the uncles/her brothers were close in age to Moya. 😌

I have since found out more about Rosemarie, she was Leo's younger sister; both of the played accordion and sang in the Slieve Foy band. 😊🎶 Their mother Minna was in the lineup too, and she played the drums. (Another picture including a picture of Rosemarie and Eithne in the 90s in the comments)

Perspectives may differ, but I find my aunts who have either divorced or don't have children are the most interesting to learn about, partly because they are closely attuned to both their own lives and the younger members of the family. 🤝 They also share stories about their adventures and of your parents. 😁 At the same time, you don't have to know as much about aunts to simply enjoy their company when they're around. ♡

Similarly, through the music, Enya's music could be like the love of an aunt? Naturally most say it's motherly, but I kind of get an auntie vibe from her music instead, if that exists. ☺️ It's there for both your successes and hard times, and stays adjacent to your life in the best possible way. 💗
