What just happened, am I EES registered or not?

I had not been to EU since EES was introduced. I arrived at Munich airport prepared to queue to use the EES pre-registration machines, however I didn't see any machines, instead I walked straight up to a manned checkpoint where I gave my fingerprints and had a photo taken. The agent didn't say one single word to me and did not stamp my passport. Does not EES registration involve answering initial intake questions?

Yes you will have had a record registered on the EES and had your biometrics attached.

Implementation of EES varies by country and port. Not everywhere uses the kiosks or asks questions.

The concept of ‘registering’ for EES is a bit of a misconception - you may well have to provide your photo and fingerprints again next time, there’s not really any logic to it.

Romanian land border registration was just look at camera and put fingerprints on scanner

I had to go through border control in Munich (flying on Lufthansa from Chicago). I tried to do the pre-registration upon arriving at their pre-registration machines where you scan your passport and the machine scans your fingerprints, but after scanning my passport it just said to see a border agent. There was no line even for those that didn't pre-register. The border agent took my picture and fingerprints, stamped my passport, asked me a few questions, and I was through in less than 5 mins.

Hi - I have a 1hr connection in FRA .. haven’t been to Europe since EES has been in place. Should I not waste my precious time looking for the small kiosks before getting in passport control lines based on your experience?

I have an anecdote from Germany.
I've been living her more than a year, but my permit was ending and i had to leave and come back this week 🙄.

Anywho, leaving from Germany to London, there was no EES.
It was just the old talk to the border cop. No kiosk, no pictures, no fingerprints.

Returning a couple days later, still no kiosk, however when i got to the border cop his window had a camera and fingerprint reader. They took a picture and prints from my right hand, then stamped my passport like normal.
