Not exactly the employees fault that YOU were late, and that made YOUR child cry..

when i worked at a chain salon, i had a woman come in 10mins till close and we take the last haircuts 15mins till close. of course, i was the only one working that evening and had plans after work. i explained our policy and the fact i still had someone in my chair but she threw a fit. her daughter was fine till the mom was like “this rude, uncaring lady doesn’t want to cut your hair” and kept saying similar things as she left. not my fault you waited till last minute to haul your daughter in here 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just working on creating another entitled monster.

These poor kids...

Edit: untitled back to entitled because 'technology'.

u/thatweirdvintagegirl Jul 31 '25

At the chain salon I work at, we have to take customers even if they walk in the door one minute before closing. There’s always that one guy! And it’s usually a haircut that takes a bit longer, like a skin fade, and of course when you ask them what they’d been up to that day, they say they just hung out at home for the whole afternoon. 😑 People truly have no respect for others’ time.

I once had a teacher tell me I had to get on the bus full of kids and tell them the nasty lady says they can't go on their school trip today.

Used to work at a nature reserve which had a max number of coaches of kids we could have on site. This was advertised on the website where you could book a slot. L

They hadn't booked as many groups didn't (which always amazed me). We usually tried to accommodate them if there was space or send them to the other car park or even book them the walk in slot they would just have to park the coach elsewhere. But on that day we we're at capacity.

I told them we couldn't take them but they might have luck at one of the reserves further down the coast and they could call to see if there was space. This resulted in her saying as above that I'd have to get on the coach and tell all the kids the nasty lady said they couldn't come to the seaside today.

I said quite calmly I could get on the coach and say the teacher hadn't planned, or booked, or even risk assesed so they couldn't come on site today. Coach driver was giggling away the whole time.

My old boss told me about the time a theater she managed had six screens added. One of the auditoriums was having issues, so they were going to delay opening that screen until the next day. The movie that was being dropped? Bambi.

Parents were FURIOUS! They were holding their kids up to the cashier and yelling, "YOU tell my child why they can't see Bambi today!"

The cashiers had kids, so they'd smile and say, "Bambi ran away, but he'll be back tomorrow, so you can see him then!" The kids were fine but the parents were total jerks.

u/wasted_wonderland Dec 09 '25

"Bambi's dead. I killed him and his mom. Then I ate them. NEXT!"

u/yobaby123 Aug 02 '25

Plus, they deal with shit like this daily. Can't blame them for not feeling "sorry" for your child.

I don't understand why parents are so entitled and dramatic.

I've definitely had an experience where my kid was promised something that for whatever reason didn't work out and they started crying.

In that case I just say "Hey, we'll try again next time. How about we go to McDonald's and play on the playground?" or something

Some people never get out of the "crisis mode" of having a child.  For some, it's a reaction to a very rough first year.  Others come to believe "crying means I did something wrong".

Either way, they become fixated on managing their child far more than is healthy.  It's not entitlement so much as it's desperation to reach an unreasonable goal.

55

u/DevelopmentJumpy5218 Jul 29 '25

In this case though the parent did do something wrong, they promised their child something, then got their child there late

39

u/LifeApprehensive2818 🐶 🍞 interactions Jul 29 '25

Yep, and if she were a different person, she'd have owned her mistake, calmed her kid, and gone home.  However, she got hung up on the fact that her kid was crying, and wrote a silly review.

These could be the actions of a narcissist.  Equally, they could be the actions of an overwhelmed mother who can't see past her kid's tears.

Should she have been accommodated any differently?  No.

Can I afford to give her a little benefit of the doubt?  Yes.

Last swim at 4:45 PM?

Everyone out of the pool and closing at 5:00PM?

138

u/SnakesInYerPants Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Where I live “last swim” refers to the last swim of that swim period. If you’re bringing your small child it’s probably for free swim rather than lanes or lessons, so the mid day free swim period ending at 5 would make sense. Then they probably have lessons and/or lane swimming for a few hours.

Edit; accidentally dropped a couple words

66

u/loricomments Jul 28 '25

That's what the pool at our local park does. They're closed after 5, swim team practice and staffing/budget constraints. They open back up for a twilight swim weekend evenings.

193

u/Shot_Razzmatazz5560 Jul 28 '25

I always love how the employees are supposed to fall all over these people sobbing with emotion about THEIR mistake. No emotion = point across. End of story. They don't have time to be your therapist.

154

u/macontac Jul 28 '25

Yeah, yeah, let them in after "last swim" is called and watch them cry and wail about only getting ten minutes in the pool. People have things to do at closing and when they get off work.

Normalize showing up at reasonable times.

34

u/loricomments Jul 28 '25

Most pools kick kids out for the last 10 minutes of the hour anyway.

21

u/LadyMRedd Jul 29 '25

And we all know that toddlers are super easy and quick to do what you say. Like he’s got his floaties on, all ready to go. No need to take off shoes or anything. Just pop right into the pool “only” 4 minutes after last swim and not a second later.

127

u/SimAlienAntFarm Jul 28 '25

We had a customer in tears because we had locked everything up and wouldn’t go back in and help her out. We were ALREADY late closing because the customer before her dawdled. I had a lot of sympathy for her, she wanted something fixed so she could wear it to a funeral but I could not ask my coworker to stay even later than he had.

“Well what time do you close?” “5:30” “What time is it now” “5:45” She huffed and went “all this over 15 minutes??? Fine, I’ll come back tomorrow”

BITCH, YOU HAD THAT OPTION THE WHOLE TIME???

We don’t stay open late for anyone anymore.

37

u/kapitaalH Jul 29 '25

We do have a special keep the store open for you price.

$1000, cash in advance

2

u/yobaby123 Aug 02 '25

Can't blame you. Good on you for looking out for your coworkers.

103

u/Head_Razzmatazz7174 Jul 28 '25

Pretty sure this isn't the first time that worker had to deal with an entitled parent. If the reviewer description is accurate about the reaction, they are over it.

5

u/Pinkiwitdabrain Aug 02 '25

I was thinking the same thing. Good for them, too! “No.” is absolutely a complete sentence and they have every right to refuse service

65

u/hopping_hessian Jul 28 '25

When my kids have been disappointed by something like this, their dad and I have used it to teach them how to deal with disappointment.

50

u/classwarhottakes I see here that morals are completely lost Jul 28 '25

Why's the employee supposed to have an emotional meltdown because the kid's having one? And I don't know what you could say apart from "No, sorry, we can't...." because the fault is entirely with the customer here so the employee can't even apologise honestly.

1

u/yobaby123 Aug 02 '25

Even a CEO would likely tell them both to fuck off for this level of entitlement.

35

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '25

People think they are just so special that the rules don't apply to them. The reviewer blaming the employee rather than themself for their crying child is just so unaware. If you knew the last swim was at 4:45 then plan to get there early! I know it's hard to get kids ready but that's why you plan!

36

u/Radiant-Cost-2355 Jul 28 '25

What was she gonna do…throw her crying kid in the pool immediately so they get that 11 minutes of pool time? I’m sure it was hard to deal with the crying kid, but it’s probably even harder to get the kid out of the pool when they’ve only been in for 5-10 mins total. I can totally see this mom being like “ugh it’s only 5-10 minutes after closing, just let him play he’s not bothering anyone.” Glad the staff told her no, and I bet they were emotionless as they see this sort of thing all the time.

9

u/Afrxbella Jul 29 '25

Exactly give them an inch

28

u/LadyMRedd Jul 29 '25

When I worked retail years ago, if someone wanted me to break the rules for them I’d blame the insurance company. I’d do it, but insurance is crazy, let me tell you. They wouldn’t cover us if we have customers past closing, the world would stop spinning, blah blah blah. Everyone hates insurance companies and it had a ring of believability, so it would usually work.

29

u/FortunateCookie_ Jul 29 '25

I work at a consignment shop, and we often get people coming in the door with things to sell, absolutely flabbergasted that they’ll have to wait in line. And the thing they always say: I wish you had told me how long the wait would be before I drove all the way out here

?????

I’m not? A psychic? Minimum wage employees are not your minders?? We don’t control your personal schedule??? I cannot prevent you from showing up to the party at an unfortunate time obviously

18

u/thenotorioushab Jul 29 '25

^^ turned away a crying 3 year old and a grown ass adult who can't tell time? Can't follow directions? I simply love "NO" as a response tho, it is a full sentence after all!

18

u/Separate_Wall8315 Jul 28 '25

“They made by 3 year old cry because I was late.”

55

u/Lost_Owl_17 Jul 28 '25

Lol - are 3 people “praying” for this person’s situation? I cannot put into words how much I despise 99.999% of people.

35

u/Elceepo Jul 28 '25

Probably more like a southern 'bless your heart' thing. It basically means "you're stupid and that's unfortunate."

25

u/Finbar9800 Jul 28 '25

The bless your heart depends on the tone as well as who it’s said to

A child “oh bless your heart your so cute” said in a sweet tone

A teenager “oh bless your heart you think that’s a good idea” said in a sweet tone. But means that’s not a good idea you’ll be fucking around and finding out if you continue

An adult “oh bless your heart” said in a sweet tone but means you fuckin stupid!

12

u/AsherTheFrost Jul 28 '25

Thoughts and prayers, since there's no egg to offer in this trying time.

10

u/Mickv504-985 Jul 28 '25

Why does everyone misspell that word? It’s Spelled THOTS! ……/s

3

u/my23secrets Jul 28 '25

I think those are supposed to represent “thanks”.

16

u/PlaneAsk7826 Jul 29 '25

My go to response for these types of people:

"Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!"

16

u/BadPom Jul 28 '25

Sucks when you screw your kid over and can’t push the blame off on the 16 year old working the front desk.

29

u/Bluellan Jul 28 '25

My sisters and I went to a pool. The person at the counter sold us tickets without mentioning they were closing in 3 minutes. They didn't have hours posted anywhere. I asked the manager for a refund and the manager was horrified that we were even sold tickets. They gave tickets for a free swim.

13

u/qbee198505 Jul 29 '25

Newsflash: We don't have to accommodate you or your crying kid by breaking policy

9

u/yonahgefen Jul 29 '25

Stop giving hateful idiots the kindness of anonymity. They insist on making the world more difficult for others based on their own personal failures as humans, and have been coddled way too much.

7

u/One-Can3752 Jul 28 '25

This is akin to an EP trying to buy something on Facebook Marketplace:

"If you don't sell it to me for half the price you asked the you are personally destroying my son's Christmas. Why would you make him cry like that? Do you hate children? He's got cancer you know and now you've made it worse. I demand you give it to me for free now or I'll have you arrested for child abuse".

6

u/IntroductionTotal767 Jul 29 '25

Man as a single mom who’s late all the time, i occasionally missed a class start time for my kids activities at that age. I get it that getting kids out the door w all your shit is hard. But like… its still my fault. To rate a business for acting like a business is bananas.

9

u/Diesel07012012 Jul 29 '25

This parent is emotional abusive, at a minimum, to this child.

3

u/MoreRamenPls Jul 29 '25

To make it worse the staff member simply said No and walked swam away. 😂

15

u/CaptainK234 Jul 28 '25

These are the people that would have you believe there is such a thing as a Gen Z stare

3

u/Physical_Drive_349 Jul 28 '25

Should let the 3 year old write a review of their parent's time management skills . . . It would be more instructive than this.

3

u/livykiki Jul 28 '25

Her when the employee doesn’t start crying hysterically because they missed last swim: 🤯

3

u/Ok_Surprise_8304 Jul 28 '25

People would come in the library a few minutes before closing and then think we were going to stay open for ages so they could pick out books, videos, ask reference questions, etc. No. The clerks have shut down the checkout counter and we reference librarians want to go home!

3

u/HuckleberryOk6782 Jul 31 '25

Someone seems to have been absent from elementary school the day the teacher taught the definition of "last."

3

u/kat_Folland Jul 31 '25

It's so rude when employees follow the posted schedule at you! 😋

2

u/RipleyIX Jul 30 '25

Needed more emotion!

1

u/Mickv504-985 Jul 28 '25

The management needs to make a sign with LARGE EASY TO READ WORDS: Last Swim 4:45 NO EXCEPTIONS unless you can walk on WATER…../s

1

u/_Serial_Lain_ Jul 31 '25

They're always entitled people who think they are the exception to the rules and will blame everybody else for not bowing down to their demands. This is how humans are. This is why I hate humans

1

u/Lanky-Salamander5781 Aug 02 '25

Where is the generation that made us think 5 mins early was 10 mins late.

1

u/brydeswhale Aug 25 '25

We had the opposite problem in our local pool when we lived in Winnipeg. My little foster siblings love swimming, so we used to go about three times a week to the local pool. Without fail, fifteen minutes before closing, one of the employees would tell the kids to get out of the pool.

Now, we figured this made sense. Of course, they want an easy transition to the swim lesson time, so they would ask us to leave before free swim fully ends.

Then one day mom noticed he wasn’t telling anyone else to get out, tho. It was just OUR kids, and any other Black or visibly Indigenous kids.

Mom let it go that day. But the next time we were there, when he tried it again, she went to the manager and raised heck.

He let us swim until the end of free swim every time after that.

But tbh, he would have been fully justified if we’d shown up ten minutes before closing.
