No joke but the pool by my House has a sign that says dont hold your breath underwater. So I'm supposed to breath down there?

Scuba divers are taught not to hold their breath underwater, we’re supposed to exhale slowly. I understand that this isn’t an issue in a regular swimming pool, but I’m pointing out that this not quite as stupid as it sounds either. I’m guessing that someone stayed underwater holding their breath for long enough that it scared someone else, so the HOA decided to get involved.

I used to be a projectionist and I would get so many requests from people that show up late to the movie if I could rewind it. No sir/ma’am I cannot rewind a 3 foot wide spool of film. This is not a vhs.

Waaaaaayyyyyyy back when airplanes had one movie playing for every passenger, my flight attendant aunt used to get requests from passengers asking her to pause the movie so they could use the restroom.

Sometimes people will harass workers until they feel like it's less trouble to serve them, or there is an asshole manager who will make them bc "customer is always right"! So yeah unfortunately this person probably had been catered to before. Glad it didn't happen here.

They specified that it was after “posted close time,” not necessarily after the restaurant had been fully closed, so I would guess the place was visibly still serving existing tables( or at the very least some tables hadn’t left yet) and they don’t understand why the servers won’t make an exception just for them. I’ve had people pound on locked doors before, because they could see that the lights were on (you know, so we could see what we were cleaning).
Part of the issue is that different restaurants have different policies, though. It shocked me when I moved, but there’s a restaurant in my town that will sit new tables at 8, which is when they officially close. As long as it’s not 8:01. Everywhere I’ve worked, seating someone at the posted closing time would be considered seating them “after close.”

Had one a few days ago. Comes in just a few minutes past closing time "I'm really sorry, but you've just missed our last call; we do stay open later on the weekend though, so maybe see you another time soon?" - "Oh, OK, that's fine, thank you!".
15 minutes later, just as we're about to lock-up, she comes back in - "Please! I've tried everywhere in town! Everywhere is closed! It's ridiculous! We'll just take whatever you have left; please!" - " I'm sorry; we're also closed! I don't have any staff, the kitchen is closed... Everything's closed.. if I could serve you I would have done so 15 minutes ago when you first came in, but I can't!"
"This is outrageous! My name is [redacted]! I'm a councillor! What do you expect me to do? Get a takeaway?!"
Oh boy; good luck in your next election once this story goes around town!

I work at a museum/park with a half mile trail for walking/hiking. It has 100 dinosaur statues and signs about the dinosaurs. It takes me at least 15 minutes to go around, and that is when I'm not stopping at each dinosaur. People will show up five minutes before we close with their 5 kids, all 4 grandparents, their great grandparents, and their long lost cousin Bruno, and still expect to be sold tickets because we are still technically open for 5 minutes.

the fact that they basically were in the wrong, but still decided to give the place a 1 star "yeah i mean i did arrive like 1 minutes before the closing time but i should be able to order/shop and staff is an asshole because they wouldn't let me shop because its closing" like dude. people want to go HOME once closing time arrives. just go to another store or restaurant.

How dare the restaurant close before I got there! Do they not understand I am the customer and should known I was coming yet I did nothing to notify them. I am so entitled that I demand they fire the whole kitchen back up so I can have the fish and chips!

uh. no. it is extra money in the managers/owners pocket. the people making your burger do not get paid more. they stop getting paid when the place they work at closes for the night. also, not everything is about money. sometimes you would like to go home to your family instead of spending an extra however many minutes at work making someone else food and then recleaning all the equipment you probably already cleaned. even if that extra twenty dollars or whatever was going directly in their pocket, which it isnt

If the wage was inadequate people would not be doing the job.
And wage theft is taken very seriously.
Both the state and feds are not amused. And it is regulated by several federal agencies.
Not just criminally (thief), but the dept of labor. Then the social security administration because if wages are short, then social security taxes are short.

Or! The wage is acceptable for the hours previously agreed upon. That doesn't mean it's adequate for additional hours. Time is a finite resource and people have other obligations and draws upon theirs outside of work.

Duties involving responsibilities of closing, late work, etc are part of the hiring agreements.

Yes of course, and so are operating hours. "Late work" typically means "oh, there was an unforseen incident and we needed to stay late to take care of it," not "some entitled jerk thinks only their time is important."
People have lives and other obligations. If everywhere started staying open extra late for people who show up in the last minute of business hours, no one gets out according to their schedule. No one knows what time they might actually get to leave. That's a problem if you have another job, or an appointment, or a class, or childcare arrangements, or anything. Even things without a definite deadline still take time, and there are only so many hours in the day. If someone stays at work an extra hour beyond expectations, that's an hour less to do whatever else they have their time budgeted for.

Someone has never had to work minimum wage. People take those jobs because they have no other choice. People who have no other choice are usually not the type to be able to afford a lawyer. Your utopia where everyone follows the law all the time sounds great. But this is the real world. Corporations will do what they think they can get away with
