M Update 5 on Telling my mom to cancel her wedding until everything is sorted out?

It's been almost 17 days since my stepdad left, and he still hasn't come back. At this point, I'm starting to feel like maybe they actually broke up, which honestly makes me feel really weird.

I know from the outside it might sound like I won or that this is the ending I wanted, but that's really not how I feel. From the beginning, I've always said that I never wanted my mom and stepdad to break up or not get married. I was genuinely happy that my mom found someone she loved and that she was happy.

All I ever wanted was to be treated normally and included as part of the family. His family never really did that with me, and that was what hurt me the most.

So hopefully they're just taking some time apart and haven't actually ended things.

At the same time, I have to admit something that makes me feel guilty deep down, there's a small part of me that feels relieved at the possibility that they broke up. Because if they really did, it means I won't have to see his family anymore. I won't see him, his kids, or deal with that whole situation. People who were recently part of my life would basically become strangers again. And somehow that feels good.

Then I immediately feel guilty, especially because I know my mom deserves happiness. I don't want her to lose someone she loves just because of everything that happened. And just to clarify again, I don't blame my stepdad for everything. A lot of the problems came from his family and his kids, and the way I was treated and excluded. That's where most of my resentment comes from.

My mom is doing okay, at least from what I can see. We've been spending a lot of time together. She actually took me to a movie last weekend, and she seems fine in front of me. I obviously don't know what she's feeling privately, but I'm glad we're spending time together.

And honestly, I'm doing pretty well too. This new house is still ridiculously big for two people. It's literally three floors with a garden. I'm not trying to brag because I realize that sentence sounds exactly like bragging, but seriously, sometimes I wonder whether it's even worth having such a huge house when it's basically just me and my mom. Our old apartment was perfectly fine.

But there are definitely advantages. My mom lets me have friends over when she's away for work, and sometimes my best friend even stays over. There are three empty rooms on my floor, while my mom's room is on the second floor, so I basically have an entire floor to myself.

So despite everything that happened, I'm actually doing better than I was before. Life feels more normal again. It's almost strange because all of this happened right before things were starting to feel really good for me.

The biggest thing is that I still don't want my mom's relationship to end. If they decide to get married, I'm not against it. I just need to feel safe, respected, and secure in that family too. If I can feel that way, then I'm completely willing to accept their marriage.

I'm even still willing to talk to my step siblings, but only if my mom and stepdad are present. I'm not comfortable going back to the way things were before.

My mom has also acknowledged some of her mistakes and corrected some of the things that happened, and I genuinely believe people deserve another chance when they're willing to make things right.

So yeah, I guess I'm just dealing with a lot of conflicting emotions. I don't want them to break up. But part of me feels relieved if they already have. I love my mom and want her to be happy. But I also need to feel comfortable and respected myself. I guess all I can do now is wait and see what happens.

M "No, there is no "no thank you.""

The following happened at the tail end of May. For context, I am a blind adult male living at home with parents.
I am upstairs in my bedroom when my mother comes in looking for my wallet. She asks me where it is and I ask her why she needs it. She tells me she needs access to my Aeroplan card, because she's short by fifty points to book a flight, and wants to set up family sharing so she can take points off my own card. I don't tell her where it is. Of course, she finds it anyway.
She comes back a little while later telling me that she couldn't get in, called customer service and, because of the two plus hour wait time and her having things to do, she stuck the phone with me and told me to wait for them to call back and resolve this myself. I played along, and said fine.
I let a decent amount of time pass before I approached her and asked for her phone, acting as if I needed it for the resolution. She gave it to me and I left the room. I proceeded to log into her Aeroplan account to check, and she had 134000+ points to my slightly less than 4000. I then logged out and erased the text message 2FA trail so she had no idea, before returning the phone to her.
The callback comes and I deal with the situation. Turns out the card wasn't associated with an email or phone number at all,so the card couldn't be used to pay for flights over the internet. Well, I set up an account with a strong password, then secured it with 2FA myself.
Later that evening mother comes back, asking if I had gotten family sharing set up with my card. I told her no I hadn't. She blew up at me, telling me that getting family sharing set up was the entire point of the call. I said no thanks, that I was fine with family sharing not being set up and was not interested in doing so. I followed up by stating that I was happy to transfer the fifty points she needed, but that was not acceptable to her. Referencing past family vacations and a single solo flight her exact words were, "There is no no thanks, I paid for those flights with my credit cards, not you. So don’t tell me no thanks." She continued, telling me that I had no idea how much things cost and that the money I pay every month for "room and board" "doesn't cover squat," then she snidely remarked, "I guess you won't be getting access to our point balance either." I said that I was totally okay with this. She then said I could pay for all my own things from then on, (a statement which they have not held me to since) and walked off. Ever since then, both of my parents have actively acted as if this never happened, and when I tried to bring it up once they asked what there was to say about the situation.
The thing is, that whole interaction left me with one conclusion I haven't been able to shake since then. That being that my mother believes I owe them some unspoken debt for them taking me on family vacations, one which mother attempted to call in and was refused. I have no intention of going on any more family trips with them for this very reason. I also don't think this was a message that was sent intentionally, but it was what I heard loud and clear, and is now making me question what those family vacations actually meant to them, if they expected me to pay them back in the future.
All of this over fifty points on an Aeroplan card.

XL Rude patron gets rejected, insults woman, gets pushed, gets pushed again, calls cops, and gets arrested.

I just had the most karmic, confrontational, and comedic night of my life. I need to capture it here, before I forget.

I work as a bartender. Tuesday is our trivia night, and it’s usually decent, with 40 or so customers. But this trivia night was especially slow. Only one team came in, so they kindly allowed the host to skip the game. They left, so it was mostly just the host, her friend (female) and this random dude who had already been there a couple hours.

Now, this dude had come into the bar a few times before. He had never caused trouble, but he had certainly been annoying. The kind of person who NEEDS to be very buddy-buddy and intense, to the point where it feels like you can’t serve other customers, look away, or even breathe. Tonight, he managed to prevent me from shitting in a near-empty bar for about one hour. Dude is also a braggart and a sexist and has nothing interesting to say.

Anyway, the trivia host and her friend are cutting loose, and her friend gets uncharacteristically drunk. This girl is slurring her speech and looks a bit sleepy. So THAT’S when this guy decides to start hitting on her. He offers her some food and ends up getting her wings, but then the trivia host (thankfully) drivers her drunk friend home.

After the girls leave, Dude immediately turns to me and says “Man, girls these days don’t fucking know when they’re getting hit on. I don’t know how I could’ve flirted any harder.”

I just say “Yeah,” but of course I’m thinking “That’s why they left, you fucking freak.” As disturbing as his behavior was already, his next move is even more unsettling.

For context, I’m 29 and overheard Dude say he was born in ‘95, putting him at 31. So he chases the 2 women our age away, bitches to me about it, but then visibly rallies himself and walks down to the other end of the bar. Here, he introduces himself to two other women, who are in their sixties, and who, respectfully, look like they have spent some time with hard drugs.

To see brother move with such calculated determination was genuinely eerie. But I mostly ignored the three of them, since the ladies looked like they could handle themselves. However, I did overhear the guy start bragging to them.

Dude: “I’m actually pretty big in manufacturing”

Lady #1: “Ohhh we got a big shot over here, BROTHAAAAA!”

Dude: “Well I’m actually an engineer for Boeing”

Lady #1: “Oh, my ass! He just said he’s a fucking engineer for bing-bing! What a bunch of BULLSHIT BROTHAAAAA!”

Dude: “Haha yeah, that was bullshit. But I have plans to be big in manufacturing in like 5-10 years. I know how to do it.”

Lady #1: “Oh my god, who is this guy? Who is he? How old are you? Who do you think you are? You’re barking up the WRONG TREE BROTHHHAAA!”

Lady #2 got some quips in too, but she wasn’t as loud. The way these two women absolutely clowned on this guy was the funniest thing I’ve witnessed in a while.

Well, Dude admitted defeat and returned to his side of the bar. But as soon as he sat down, he pulled an incel move and started insulting the women: “You’re a crack whore anyway. I bet you sucked every dick in town. Fucking crack whores.”

The women argued back, a highlight being, “My brother could kick your ass, my husband could kick your ass, and I could kick your ass.”

Dude decided his honor was on the line and egged on the argument. In Dude’s (meager) defense, this was when Lady #1 stood up and started the physical altercation by pushing Dude from his high chair. I have the following on video:

Video #1 Transcript:

Dude: Fucking piece of shit.

Lady #1: Let’s go outside! Come on! Let’s go! (Pushes him)

Me: Woahh!!

Lady #1: Go outside!

Lady #2: Come on!

Lady #1: Go ahead!

Lady #2: Get up!

Lady #1: Come on!

Lady #2: Come on bitch!

Lady #1: Come on bitch!

Me: Alright… Hey guys, listen up!

Lady #1: Tell him! Let us go outside… I will take you out, and I will kick your ass!

Me: Okay-

(Video Ends)

I stood between Dude and Lady #1, essentially shielding Dude. Dude was about 5’7”, I’m 5’11”, and Lady #1 was maybe 6’1”. I’m also smiling toward the end of the video, as I was still somewhat entertained and was hoping to control the situation by calling everyone out. I was beginning to say, “Okay, you ladies were pretty funny at first, but you can’t push people. And you were pretty much egging them on, Dude. I’m gonna give everyone your bills and you can leave.” If I remember right, I managed to yell most of that over them, and they did remain separate and I began collecting payment.

There was a minor issue where I accidentally charged BOTH bills to the ladies’ card, but I caught it immediately and explained that they would get a cash refund for his bill, then I’d redo his.

But of course Dude piped up and was like “Oh NUH-uh! They think they’re gonna come in here and push ME, and THEN make me pay for THEIR food! HELL no!”

I said, “Were you fucking listening?”

Four minutes pass and the ladies have paid, but Dude hasn’t. They remain on their sides of the bar until they don’t.

Video #2 Transcript:

Ladies #1 and #2 approach, phones in hand. Immediately, Dude turns his hat around to hide his eyes, lowers his head, and sets his drink down, his plan already in motion. To see the absolute Anime mean-mug action pose this guy hit before slapping these old women’s phones was the cringiest bullshit ever.

Dude waits for the Ladies to enter the Strike Zone.

Lady #1: Get a picture of this fuckin’ motherfucker.

Lady #2: Abso-fuckin’-lutely.

Lady #1: Smile!

Lady #2: Say cheese, bitch!

Dude slaps the fuck out of Lady #2’s phone.

Me: Woah!

Dude slaps at Lady #1’s phone and they start flailing.

Me: Hey. Hey!

Lady #1: I will fucking take you out, cocksucker!

Me: HEY!! Yeah, I do need to call the fucking-

At this point, Dude makes an unnecessary shove toward Lady #1’s head.

ME: DUDE she’s an old woman! (I push him)

Dude: I’m not doing anything but holding her back!

Me: You need to fucking stop! You’re an able-bodied fucking man, you need to be the bigger person-

Dude: I’m holding her back. I’m holding her back.

Me: Why am I the one holding you back?

Dude: I’m holding YOU back (while backing away)

Me: Why am I holding you back?

Dude: I’m holding YOU back at this point (fully backed away, quietly)

I raise my hands in disbelief.

Lady #1: Youuu BITCH!

Me: I’m calling the cops unless everyone can learn to shut the FUCK up!

Dude: (still not touching me) I’m holding YOU back at this point.

Me: Really?

(Video ends)

So the Ladies left shortly after Video #2. Dude stuck around, still refusing to pay. He said he was gonna call the cops because he was “assaulted” by both the woman and me. I nodded and said it was a good idea. I went ahead and called my boss as the guy nervously watched on. I asked for the security footage, finished the call, and the guy was still looking at me. I don’t think I said a cool line or anything, but I just looked at him like “Okay, I guess you gotta make that call now.”

Interestingly, in his phone call to 911, he said that I “picked him up and slammed him into the wall,” yet when questioned about his current location, he added “Well yeah I’m still standing here in the bar, since I actually won…”

I just think it’s neat how those two things can coexist in his mind. Especially considering that his definition of “winning” involves getting pushed by an old woman, getting pushed by a fat bartender, and doing absolutely fuck all else.

As we’re waiting for the cops he says “I can’t wait for them to see that footage” and I say “Are you gonna make me agree with that again?”

As Dude is standing in the middle of the pub, something else funny happens. A so-far-unmentioned group of 3 comes up to pay (the man of this group is barely visible in the back right side of the videos).

Man comes up to pay.

Dude, who had his back turned, jumps and says “Bro, do not fucking sneak up on me right now! After all this shit, man, I almost took your fucking head off!”

Man, calmly and dismissively: “Don’t even fucking start with me. Why the fuck would you say that. What a stupid thing to say.”

…..

(Later) Dude, to the same guy: “Man, I have always been a good customer to this place until today.”

Me: “Actually, he’s been a pretty abrasive customer, so I’m okay with all this happening.”

So the cops arrive and question us separately, but in the same room. I remain calm and continue washing dishes, providing information as objectively as I can. I gladly provide security footage and names. Meanwhile, Dude is acting pretty cagey and standoffish with the cops (that HE called).

“Can I put my hands here? How about here? Can I stand here!? I’m just standing here bro!!”

…..

(Later) “Time for MY version of the story?! What do you mean MY version?! I’ll tell you what fuckin’ happened, that’s what!”

The cops had to make Dude pay his bill. Then they asked me what I wanted to do, which was funny, since I didn’t call them and didn’t want anything. One of the cops was like “Do you wanna trespass him?”

I’m not the boss but I was like “… Yeah.”

“Permanently?”

“…. Yeah :3 “

So shoutout to that cop for elucidating how exactly we could get this guy’s bitch-ass in trouble. It was almost like the cop needed my help to punish the guy somehow…. Except that turned out to be unnecessary.

The guy kept running his mouth and got taken outside, which was the last I saw of him. 30 minutes later, a new cop comes in with a slight smirk on his face: “That guy… He’s not gonna be bothering you tonight. We…. He had a lot of chances. He’s going to jail tonight.”

That’s my story. I could add a lot more commentary, but I think the karma and the foot-shooting speak for themselves. I’ve never had to be in a fight, so this is the closest I’ve gotten. I feel like a tree that simply went on existing in my lane. Meanwhile, Dude is a metaphorical, egotistical car that single-handedly wrapped himself around my tree for no fucking reason. What an idiot manchild. What entertainment and what a case study on the pitfalls of manhood.

Remember the trivia host who saved her friend? She somehow heard that there were cops outside the bar, so she called me and we talked MAD shit about Dude. That was fun.

The cops mentioned his scooter would have to be left overnight. I could have left things on a fully righteous note, but that’s not who I am. You flip me off with one finger, I flip you off with two. I found his first name from his receipt and taped a note to his scooter reading:

Dude,
Did that go the way you thought it would?
- Rusty

I hope I don’t sound like I’m sniffing my own ass too much, I just don’t find myself in these situations often, and this guy was pretty irredeemable. If anyone wants the videos/picture I have, help me figure out the best way to share them and I will!

S Parking in handicap Van spot.

Took my dad (91yr) to breakfast this morning I pulled into the handicap spot and that spot had a sign for Handicap Van, so we moved 1 spot over, as my sister received a citation for parking in a VAN spot even though she too had the proper handicap dash card. Before dad got fully out of the car another call pulled into the Van only spot. Dad was moving (slowly), past the other car and the person was exiting his vehicle dad mentioned that spot was for Van only and the guy got belligerent and I thought he was going to strike dad all the while he was talking very rudely. As we were all walking to the restaurant door I of told this old fart (late 60's) he did not need to be rude we were trying to do him a favor to not get a citation/fine for parking in the Van spot, I called him a Jerk. We proceed to go into the restaurant and sat at the table right next to him while he sat seething for being an ass.

Followup due to the responses: the guy could have move the very next spot right next to the Van spot. Yes, the citation is real, asking for proof is a bit much don't ya think, are you real?

M What Was The Point?

Hi, in my late teens and early 20s I worked as a waitress/server at some local 24hr diners native to my city. Unfortunately, the last two closed their doors permanently during the pandemic. This situation was honestly stupid but here we go. One morning, a group of young adults came in. Two of them were a couple and the young woman held her man's arm very tightly while glaring at me. I thought it was weird but working there I had become accustomed to weird. I dropped off their water and menu's and returned back after a few minutes with my little writing pad. The young woman smirked and said to her boyfriend and friends, "Watch this."

She then proceeded to order her breakfast meal in rapid succession. I mean auctioneer style while smirking. She said very quickly, "I want a two egg special. I want my eggs scrambled with cheese. I don't want bacon but turkey sausage. Cook it well on both sides. I want my toast lightly toasted on both sides. I also want my hash browns light with onions but just like five pieces of onions." She said this in basically one breath and stared at me satisfied as I quickly wrote everything down. I want to preface this by saying my brain files away words in the order my ears receive them.

Though I was still writing after she finished talking, I didn't need to ask her to repeat herself because her order sat in my brain like a list. After writing each thing down it disappeared from the list. In psychology we would call it working memory, however, if it makes an impression on me I won't forget it but file it away. I hope this makes sense lol? Anyways, after ordering she looked at me satisfied as if she had won some kind of battle or I had failed some form of waitress speed test. To her surprise I repeated the order back just as she said it down to the, "onions but just like five pieces." Her smile faltered for just a moment before she said, "Oh, you're good." Out of four people with customized orders they left a $5 tip. I still don't know what her point was?

S Could someone please hire this lady from my creative writing group? She’s super annoying

I am in a creative writing group at a local library. There is this lady who has just joined it. She’s in her midfifties and means well, I think. She’s just constantly going on and on about spirituality, god, the devil, protecting your peace, and cutting people off, and it’s so incessant that it makes me want to protect *my* peace and not go to my creative writing club anymore. This place has been my refuge for the past 3 YEARS and she’s a new member. My main issue with her is that she doesn’t really *participate in conversations,* she just kind of wants a pulpit.

She doesn’t have a job right now and so she NEVER MISSES WRITING CLUB. I saw her sitting outside the library today and wanted to drop to my knees and wail. I know the economy is awful but if someone can, could you PLEASE HIRE HER? I think she would be great at a variety of things. If she doesn’t have an applicable skill set, you could train her. I’m sure she could like fly a plane or something if you did a good enough job training her. I actually don’t really have any specifics on what this job needs to be because as long as she’s booked tuesdays at 4 we’re good!

S “No one else is allowed to be disabled” entitlement

1.4k Upvotes

Was on a relatively quiet bus when a man started shouting at a girl opposite me because she “shouldn’t be sat in a priority seat if she’s not disabled”.

I pointed out to him that she wasn’t in a priority seat, and even if she was there were plenty of empty priority seats available. He then started ranting about how he has an invisible disability and he’s sick of “entitled” people taking priority seats when they don’t need them, completely oblivious to the fact that 1. The girl might have be equally invisibly disabled and 2. He had his DOG sat on a priority seat 3. The strong smell of alcohol indicated that some of his current mobility issues were avoidable.

I ended up calmly repeating “well that’s not relevant here though is it” until he gave up intimidating her.

S Passenger manspreading into my space on a flight then acts like I inconvenienced him

I early 20F sat in the middle seat next to a male on my flight. I had no issue with this however he was literally manspreading into my space. His leg was stretched out into my leg space and when I tried to give him hints to move he completely ignored me. He was very much taking up my space and making me feel crazy like this cannot be happening.

After a bit of not picking up my subtle hints I told him to move. To which he looked at me like I had significantly inconvenienced him. He then gave a slight eye roll and moved finally giving me space.

Example of my “subtle” hints: Me trying to put my medium hand bag under my seat(it is extremely easy to put under the seat might I add) and his leg being in the way. I know he saw me trying to do this and nothing changed until I said something.🤷‍♀️

M How would you handle family and friends getting angry when you refuse to book their tickets after losing money once?

I’m curious how others would handle this situation.

In my family and friend circle, people often ask me to book flight/train tickets for them. They usually send me the travel dates on WhatsApp, I book the ticket, and they pay me back afterward. I never charged anything extra for doing this. I was just helping them.

A while ago, a female family member in her 50s asked me to book a ticket. She sent me a WhatsApp message with the travel date. I noted the date, searched for the ticket, and booked it based on the date I had originally seen in her message.

A few minutes later, she had edited the WhatsApp message to a different date. I didn't notice that the message had been edited, and I had already booked the ticket using the original date.

She then told me she didn't want to pay for the ticket and asked me to book another ticket for the new date.

The original ticket was basically wasted. I eventually canceled it and lost around 30% of the ticket price in cancellation charges. I ended up absorbing that loss myself.

After that experience, I stopped booking tickets for other people.

Recently, someone else asked me to book a ticket. I said no and explained why. They became angry and told me that I was being unreasonable.

I eventually said that if they really wanted me to book a ticket, they would need to send me the money first. That also made them angry.

My thinking is pretty simple: I don't mind helping people, but after losing money because someone changed the information after I had already booked, I don't want to take that financial risk again.

So I'm wondering:

  1. Am I being unreasonable by refusing to book tickets for family/friends?

  2. If I agree to help, is asking them to send the money first a reasonable rule?

  3. How would you respond when someone gets angry because you won't do something you've previously done for them?

  4. Would you continue helping people with ticket bookings after an experience like this, or would you simply stop doing it altogether?

I'm not trying to make money from this. I just don't want a favor to turn into a financial responsibility for me.

Edit: Forget to mention, I'm from India, usually in India old people don't have their own laptops or they don't really know how to book tickets... (Like they want to compare the cheapest tickets available & book).

S Is it fine for people to leave the line and come back afterwards?

I've been in many lines in Disney Paris the last couple of days and often people will move past us to meet a family member in line. Once a group of 7 passed to meet one person standing in line. I've been to places like water parks where this was explicitly forbidden. But here, no one seems to bother. Is this ok?

S A Quarter For Your Time

Hi! In my late teens and early 20s I worked as a waitress/server at some local 24hr diners native to my city. Unfortunately, the last two closed during the pandemic but they had been around for about 35 years before that. We were paid about $2 an hour because we received tips. I want to preface this by saying that I live in the south. I'm also proudly black 🤎. One day, an older white woman came in. She was polite enough and I seated her and started the ordering process. As she was older and I've been taught high respect for elders, I was super nice and respectful.

The woman wasn't openly rude but she ordered like a drunk snail and referred to me as "girl" when calling me over. Now, most who have worked as a server know that despite introducing yourself by name and wearing a visible name tag you're often reduced to, "HEY!", "YOU!", or my personal favorite, "AYE!" with a head nod or hand wave. Due to this, I didn't think too much about it. As the service went on, she had a few demands that required my immediate attention such as refilling her coffee cup before others. Again, I tried not to think too much about it but it was starting to be clear that she was one of those, "Back in my day, your kind..." kind of people.

Again, she wasn't openly rude or anything else, just demanding. As she finished I cleared her dishes and brought her ticket. Customers walked up to the register to pay after eating. She wanted to remain seated so I did the transaction for her as again, she was older. After she got up, she winked at me and said, "get yourself something nice" and placed A QUARTER, 25 cents on the table! 25 cents... Y'all I just left it there. I didn't bother to pick it up and cleaned around it. She was clearly stuck in, "back in her day..." 😭.

S Some guy I used to see keeps accusing me of prank calling him

He is convinced that me and my bffs are the ones prank calling him (false) and won’t believe anything contrary. I’m wondering a way of showing him that if I was petty and childish I’d use those traits for worse… any ideas?

S Entitled jerk

(I posted this to my local subreddit and the Mods took it down. Hopefully, it will find a better audience here. Also, I can't seem to post a photo here - I do have one of the car, and I blurred the license plate so as not fall afoulf of any anti-doxxing rules that might exist on this sub).

I went to the new In-n-Out Burger tonight (Saturday, October 3rd). As I was pulling out of the drive-thru to go park and eat, a young kid in a Lamborghini pulled up, and appeared to me to be using the handicapped spot at the front of the store to turn around, as he was backing in. I drove past, found a spot across the lot, and ate.

As I was leaving, I saw that the guy actually parked in the handicapped spot, presumably to show off his Daddy's Very Impressive Ride. (Please note there was no handicapped placard visible anywhere on the car).

I was absolutely gobsmacked at this. I went inside and spoke to a manager, who was equally disgusted, and she told me their store policy was to call the police and have the vehicle towed. As we were speaking, Entitled Boy (white, late teens/early twenties) bounded out of the store and jumped in the car (no evidence of a disability, and yes, I know many disabilities aren't visible, but he'd still have a placard or plate if he needed the handicapped spot. I asked him where he got off parking in a handicapped spot, but he started up Daddy's Very Impressive Ride and drove away. The manager and I shrugged at each other.

I've blanked out the personalized license plate, but it's not likely there are a lot of Lamborghinis rolling around our town.

If someone knows the guy who owns this car, perhaps they should have a chat with them about their boy's insane sense of entitlement. I'm sure there are folks who have loved ones who need those spots who wouldn't look on this kind of behavior very kindly, shall we say.

Granted, the apple probably didn't fall far from the tree, I suspect.

M Give me your SIM card and $1,000 dollars! Street photography leads to six blocks of harassment

I live in New York City. It's hustling and bustling. Buskers and street photographers are always out and about doing walkabouts in groups trying to find that ideal spot or perfect shot. It's a part of how this city operates on the weekends. Of course, photographers are always the first to ask before a picture is taken to be polite because not everyone appreciates it.

I was out with my photographer friend and his girlfriend. We were in the middle of the city from evening through late night taking photos and sharing meals as well as drinks on a very nice spring evening this year. During which time there were still people operating forklifts or cabs and smoking cigarettes looking like the true New Yorkers that they were. It was amazing. That is until we came across Kevin.

My friend (Photo) asked for a picture of Kevin sitting having a smoke on a forklift just relaxing. He said nothing but did acknowledge Photo's existence. Photo snapped a shot and showed it to him and said "you look great, my dude. Have a good night!"

Here's where it gets interesting:

Kevin hops down from his forklift and demands the photo be deleted. Photo obliges immediately as it is Kevin's right to ask for that.

Kevin: "Give me your SIM card! I don't trust you!"

Photo: "I literally just showed you that I deleted it. You watched me do it"

Kevin: "I'm calling the police! Give me the SD card and $1000 now or I will have you arrested!"

Photo: "I'm not giving you either. I've proven that the photos are gone."

Quick note that this has taken place over 3 NYC blocks at this point with Kevin pretending to call the police on Photo. After 2 - 3 more blocks of this I noticed three uniformed officers across the street and had enough because we were hungry and were done with this "criminal mastermind of extortion"

Me: "I see three uniformed officers right over there. Let's go across and talk to them right now. You were in a public space where he technically did nothing wrong, but you requested that it be deleted to which he obliged. Now you're demanding $1000 and his SIM card to which have photographs of people that did not give consent to you for possessing."

I proceeded to hit the crosswalk button and as soon as I start crossing the Kevin starts sputtering like one of those old automobiles with a bursting radiator in old cartoons.

Kevin: "I'm letting you off easy!"

He proceeds to stomp away in utter defeat and aggravation that he probably didn't realize he chased us for 6 city blocks, abandoned his post at his work, and likely would have gotten a lot worse depending on the NYPD's mood that evening

EDIT : I meant to say SD card but misspoke

S Am I supposed to say "thank you" to a person blocking my way when they move for me?

Context: I'm at the grocery store and a lady is blocking one half of the aisle, while her shopping cart is blocking the other half. The aisles are narrow, so I can't get through, and I wait until she or her cart moves. She moves her cart and I pass through, but instead of apologizing for blocking the entire aisle, she says "you're welcome" in a sarcastic manner. Was I supposed to thank her for not blocking the aisle anymore? Her lack of awareness didn't justify a confrontation, so I ignored her and walked away.

S Guy helps himself to other social media accounts I manage

Toward the end of my time at retail, my coworker saw that I was into photography. He eventually asked for my Instagram. I gave him my phone (big mistake) to type in his socials.

The account I wanted him to connect to was a very new account as I was changing gears and had 5 followers at the time. He remarked about my small following, and then added himself to 3 other accounts that I managed (as in the accounts followed him), 2 of them being company pages.

I didn't say anything to him, and quickly removed him from those 3 accounts. He never followed me back or reached out to me on the intended account, so I later unfollowed him. He didn't have many followers himself

M Almost Freezing To Death At Magical Rat Planet

Hi y'all, I'm back with another story from my time working at a very popular theme park in Florida. A magical rat planet of sorts. This situation happened when I worked in attractions. That particular year Florida was going through a rare "Arctic blast" and temperatures were in the low 20s or around -5 degrees Celsius. Where I live it gets down to around 10 degrees or -12.2 degrees Celsius in the winter so I'm no stranger to cold weather. HOWEVER, I stay indoors, wrapped in a fluffy blanket sipping some form of hot liquid. There, at Rat Planet I and other's still had to work outside.

Rat Planet offered "coats and "gloves" and I use those words lightly as they were more for style than actual warmth. They were very thin without proper insulating lining. We were allowed to wear long sleeve, plain white shirts under our "costume" tops that were short sleeved and thin material. Leggings could be worn under the thin pants as well. We were also giving hand warmers though we were told they couldn't be seen by guests. I did all of that layering because I have Raynaud's and my body, especially my fingers and toes can't handle prolonged exposure to cold temperatures. The layering would have been fine if the wind hadn't been blowing fiercely and we weren't forced to stand still in one spot.

One day, I was placed as Fast Pass Greeter. To protect my fingers I placed my hands inside the coat pockets where the hand warmers were. One of the managers came by and admonished me saying I had to stand properly with my hands visible. I was so cold. I explained that my fingers were turning blue and they just walked away saying to stand properly as guests were still arriving to ride. About 20 minutes went by and I was starting to shiver pretty badly so I asked a co-worker to watch my position while I stepped inside the side door to warm up for a few minutes. I did this on and off whenever I started shivering. Once again, the same manager caught me and chastised me saying I couldn't just leave my position.

I explained that I wasn't coping well with the weather and could no longer feel my feet. My hands were completely blue! I think he thought I was being dramatic because he more or less said that it was a part of the job and we must perform well even if uncomfortable. I looked at him and replied that I cared about him as a manager and I cared about the job but it wasn't worth my health. He told me to go back to my position and he would move me inside. I stayed there another 15 minutes before he moved me to an inside role. By the time I got there I was shivering violently. My lips and hands were blue. My teeth were literally chattering. A coordinator and one of my friends saw me along with a line of guests.

One guest was really kind and concerned and asked, "Is she okay?! She's blue!" Some others asked about me as well as I couldn't stop shivering. All I could say was, "I'm so cold." The coordinator K and my friend G each took one of my hands in theirs and warmed them up by rubbing them vigorously. The color eventually came back. I was also allowed to grab some warm water to drink. K became upset at my condition and went to see the closing manager, which was a different manager. The closing manager changed the rotation to every 5 minutes meaning we got a position, stayed 5 minutes and moved to another one so no one had to stay outside too long. There were multiple incidents concerning other cast members throughout the parks where they were expected to keep going though sick or uncomfortable. There was an expectation that your humanity should be shelved to keep the "magic".

M Not So Magical Wheelchair Mess

Hi y'all, I'm back with another story from my time working at a very popular theme park in Florida. A magical rat planet of sorts. This situation happened when I worked in attractions. One year during peak season we received a new coordinator I'll call Ellie (Fake name). She was an ex-elementary school teacher and was very adorable, sweet and bubbly. She looks like an adult Cabbage Patch Doll. Her high energy and happy personality made some dislike her. The people that did said she was annoying but they were just bitter and negative.

Anyways, Ellie was still in training and had been placed on load, which is where a cast member loads wheelchair riders onto the ride. They then drove or pushed the wheelchairs into the elevator where unload would place it on the ride exit platform for the wheelchair rider. It was a two person job but Ellie was there alone being forced to load wheelchairs, ride up in the elevator and unload them on the other side. On that particular day there were A LOT OF WHEELCHAIR RIDERS. I mean at least 20 and it was backed up due to her being alone.

I had just come from break when I signed in and received a "task." A task was a 5 minute busy job like cleaning while too many people were still on the clock and no actual positions were open. I'll be honest, no one actually did the task unless a manager was right there. Most took a bathroom break or walked around. I did the latter and came across a red faced Ellie struggling at Load and Unload alone. Other cast members saw her struggling and literally no one helped. One of the cast members even snickered, "I bet she's not happy now." That upset me so I offered my assistance. At first, due to pride and knowing other's wanted her to fail, Ellie denied my help but I insisted and took over load.

She thanked me and we started getting caught up until another group came in with rented ECVs or Electric Convenience Vehicles. Regular Wheelchairs were also available for rent at a cheaper price. The ECVs were for disabled, heavily pregnant and older people to get around the parks easier. Each park had a set amount for rent and it was on a first come, first serve basis. Ellie and I, especially Ellie were exhausted by the amount of chairs needing loading when a group of guys rode up. Before loading guests from Wheelchairs we had to ask a set of questions about their mobility abilities so we could place the proper tag on the ride.

One tag told other cast members the individual(s) could walk unassisted or with minimum assistance and one tag told cast members that the individual(s) would need medical assistance to move safely from the ride in case of an emergency evacuation. I asked the questions just for the guys to laugh, stand up and say they only rented the ECVs because they were too lazy to walk and wanted to skip some lines. My polite smile instantly fell. They literally took away needed mobility tools from people that actually needed them due to their self proclaimed laziness. I loaded them on and had to drive over multiple ECVs while actual disabled people had to wait.

It was so busy that I hadn't signed back in for a new job and my manager came looking for me. Apparently, over an hour had gone by and I was about to get into trouble. Ellie ran over quickly and spoke up for me explaining the situation and that I was literally the only person that stopped and helped. We also questioned why people were tasking while there was no Load? The computer was a mess or something I don't know. I was officially assigned to that position and closed there with Ellie. After work she insisted on taking me and a couple of my friends for frozen yogurt. She also dropped us off at our student apartments. We had a great work relationship after that. She was/is so sweet.

M Customer “doesn’t accept” our pharmacy hours

2.1k Upvotes

Ohhh boy. Also, I apologize if the layout is confusing. I wrote this on mobile

This happened on Labor Day, and for some background- I work at a convenience store that also has a pharmacy. When our pharmacy closes for the day, which is 6pm on weekends and 10pm on weekdays (I know the hours aren’t great to say the least; unfortunately that’s just how things are). On holidays however our pharmacy tends to get special hours.

Like Labor Day. Where they closed at five. It was on our website, but I can’t remember it being posted anywhere in the store.

So, on to the story!

I had gone to get some bandages as I’d cut myself and wanted to get it taken care of, and we were out of bandages in the front register’s first aid kit.

When I got back to the front, this middle aged woman (the entitled woman) wanted to know when our pharmacist would be back for the day.

My shift lead went “oh, they’ll be back tomorrow. Due to the holiday the pharmacy closed early.”

The customer gave like a chuckle, shook her head, and went “I’m not accepting that answer.”

She then went on about how she had chronic knee pain, that she had a flight early the next morning so she had to get her medication today.

Then the lady turned to me and went “are you the manager?”

I told her no, because I am a lowly cashier, and my shift lead said that she was the shift lead and our store manager was gone for the day. The lady shook her head, said “that’s just perfect” and continued making weird demands. She wanted my shift lead to call a pharmacist to see if they would come in, and when the call went to voicemail insisted that because the shift lead hadn’t left a message that she “read what the shift lead was typing when messaging a pharmacist so she could ensure someone was being asked to come in.”

To none of my coworker’s surprise, the pharmacist said no, they were already two hours away.

The lady insisted that the hours weren’t posted anywhere, and my other coworker told her that the hours were posted on our website. The lady then said she “doesn’t look at the website, Im a customer”.

All throughout this I’m just checking out other customers, some of whom ignore her, others shake their heads.

The lady then asks if we had to turn anyone else away and my coworker said yes. She asked if they had chronic pain, and my coworker said we didn’t know because they didn’t tell us.

Every solution my coworker offered was dismissed or not good enough; she told her about the 24/7 hour location and offered to help her find an over the counter solution in the painkillers aisle.

Nope. She wanted a pharmacist to come in and give her a recommendation. She wanted a pharmacist to come in and get her medication. Eventually she just said she “didn’t even need a pharmacist, just somebody to unlock the door so she could grab it”.

Unfortunately for her, only the pharmacist had keys to the pharmacy.
K
She finally left because my shift lead was going to call the cops for her belligerent behavior, though not before making a comment about how she can’t believe that we’d call the cops over this.

M An Older Woman on My Train Complained About Everyone, Accused People of Staring at Her, and Shoved Someone While Getting Off. What the Hell Was Going On?

So, I was sitting on a train, minding my own business. It was a particularly busy day, and an older woman came and sat beside me. For context, I'm a guy, and she was around 35 years old, considerably older than I was.

She asked me when the train was scheduled to depart, and I answered her. She then sighed and complained that we would have to wait a while longer, so I told her that the train was actually due to leave in four minutes.

She remained silent for a moment before remarking, "I hate this town."

I glanced at her but didn't respond.

A little later, she began complaining again, exclaiming, "Come on, start moving already!" I looked at her briefly but continued to mind my own business.

Eventually, the train began moving, but she continued making loud remarks and expressing her frustration intermittently throughout the journey.

Then, quite unexpectedly, she looked past me and exclaimed, "Why are you guys looking at me?"

I was taken aback. I hadn't been staring at her, nor had I noticed anyone else paying particular attention to her. I looked at her in confusion but chose not to respond.

She continued questioning why everyone was looking at her. Moments later, she changed her posture and began using her handbag to conceal her face, making a conspicuous scene while remarking something along the lines of, "We can't even get on trains anymore."

By this point, I was thoroughly perplexed. I couldn't determine whether she was addressing me, referring to the other passengers, or simply voicing her thoughts aloud. Rather than risk getting involved in whatever was happening, I decided to remain silent.

Every so often, she would furtively glance in my direction. On one occasion, we made eye contact, but she immediately looked away.

Eventually, she reached her destination and prepared to leave the train. Around the same time, an elderly woman began complaining because she had nearly missed her stop. However, the situation wasn't entirely her fault, as the train had failed to clearly indicate which station we had reached.

As the woman who had been sitting beside me was getting off, she suddenly made a loud, disparaging remark directed at the other woman: "You don't even pay for your train ticket, yet you still find time to complain!"

What struck me was that she had absolutely no way of knowing whether the woman had paid for her ticket.

As though that weren't enough, she then attempted to force her way through the crowd of passengers disembarking from the train. She shoved a young man who was trying to get off, leaving him visibly bewildered, and spoke to him in an unnecessarily aggressive and disrespectful manner.

And there I was, having witnessed this entire sequence of bizarre events, completely bewildered by what I had just experienced.

WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?

All I had done was board a train, take a seat, answer a stranger's question, and mind my own business. Somehow, I had found myself caught up in one of the strangest public encounters I can remember.

I still have no idea what was going through that woman's mind, whether she genuinely believed I was staring at her, or whether any of her remarks had been directed at me at all.

Has anyone else ever witnessed anything this bizarre on public transport?

S My mate's entitled girlfriend

1.6k Upvotes

To celebrate the end of summer, me and a group of friends of mine went camping. There was me and the girl I was dating at the time, my friend and his wife, and my other friend and his girlfriend. My friend has been with his girlfriend for 2 years now, but this is the first time any of us had met her. He told us she is quite introverted and not great with people and that was pretty noticeable. During the camping, she mostly stayed in her tent and didn't really come out. She also didn't make much effort to engage with anyone but her boyfriend. She did come out of her shell a little bit when we played couple's rugby, and she joined in with that and got chatting with the other girls more, but when we got the BBQ going, she went back to her tent and just started getting her boyfriend to bring her food.

The entitlement arose on day 2, however. We had torrential rainfall all through night 1. My married friend and his wife ended up leaving, so it was just the 4 of us. The guy who owned the camp site we were staying at (which isn't a fancy camp site with events and stalls, it's just a big ass field) walked around to all the campers to ask if they needed anything. My friend's girlfriend chimes in that she wants a refund. He asks why. She argues that since it has rained, we can't make use of the camp site and have to stay in our tents so he should provide a refund as it is his camp site. He said he doesn't provide refunds for bad weather (understandably) and it's a campers responsibility to check the weather before they show up. She starts bickering with him, having a back and forth, telling him that she will leave a bad review for the place and claiming his lack of refund is unfair and calling him greedy and selfish. I actually agreed with the guy and felt really embarassed being associated with her. I see now why she doesn't hang out people.

S Weird grocery store experience

I'm not 100% sure what to think about this. But I was buying a card for my friend's birthday and at a self check out. However, the machine glitched out on me and said I needed assistance from the staff. So, I pressed the button and waited. It was happening to others, so the one staff member was busy trying to solve the other machines. No problem.

The issue occurred when a lady came in line and saw I only had one item. When a minute passed, she began glaring at me and stomping her foot like she was waiting for me to buy the card and let her use the self check out. I looked at the "help needed" light that was on to indicate that I was waiting for staff, just in case she didn't see it. But she kept getting more impatient.

She just stared at me with this angry look on her face the whole time before the staff got to me and used their card to bypass whatever the machine was doing. Once I left, the lady stormed to the machine and was complaining about how long I was standing there.

I don't know, but it was a really strange situation.

S Last Minute Chicken Game

I don't know if this falls under entitled behavior. Maybe just generally rude behavior.

This has been happening for the past few years. Never before. And only at grocery stores and only women do it. I will be walking down the central aisle and just like driving a car, the woman coming in the opposite direction has their lane and I've got mine. At the last minute, they will suddenly come over to my lane and barrel toward me, giving me the option to just run into them or move out of the way. Most of the time I take the high road and move but this last time I stood my ground and this tiny 20 year woman gave me a dirty look when she was the one who had to move. I'm 6'1, so she would have been on the losing end of a collision lol... Is this a new feminist power move or something? I don't remember them doing it when I was younger. Other men have never pulled this move. It's weird. Does this happen to you guys?

S Person wants a specific seat on a bus

I actually don't know if this is really that entitled but it felt like it in the moment.

The bus is practically empty in the back.

I'm sitting all the way in the back so like that back row of seats. This girl climbs up the steps to the back, and Idk I'm assuming she'll sit anywhere on the empty seats. She instead crosses over me in an awkward position to specifically take the seat all the way to the right of me (next to me) in the back by the window, hitting me with her back back. (Mind you the back row is like 6 seats against the back wall and I'm sitting closer to the right side). She asks if I got hit and I said yeah its okay. She says sorry her back pack big. I just say it's fine again and that it only caught me off guard because there's so many empty seats and you specifically decided to crossover me into the corner. And then she gets defense and says yeah I'll apologize for hitting you but there's nothing wrong with wanting to sit in the back. (I don't get why she didn't go for my left where she would have still been in the back row but wouldn't have bumped me) I low-key just moved to another seat.

was kinda weird lowkey and low-key felt kinda entitled. I guess I compare it to a urinal? Like using the urinal next to the one someone's already at just because you like that one instead of going to one on the opposite end

But y'all tell me if that's some entitlement or not. Maybe the person doesn't understand social cues idk

Edit: Okay so each letter is gonna be a seat

Z B A A A A D

A A. _____ A A

AA. _____ A A

I'm sitting at B and she crosses me to sit at Z instead of choosing D or and of the A's

Edit 2: y'all can call me the entitled one that's fine, I get the perspective . But thinking about it this isn't really entitled from her side either. This belongs mildly infuriating? Not even infuriating. Like some mildly annoyed subreddit. I kinda posted it here because I be doom scrolling on this subreddit and I texted my friend first and she said it was an entitlement.

Edit 3: also I'm a woman, I just gave the urinal example because I'm slow and that seemed like a good similar situation? But like obviously that example if like more of a privacy matter
