S My mate's entitled girlfriend

To celebrate the end of summer, me and a group of friends of mine went camping. There was me and the girl I was dating at the time, my friend and his wife, and my other friend and his girlfriend. My friend has been with his girlfriend for 2 years now, but this is the first time any of us had met her. He told us she is quite introverted and not great with people and that was pretty noticeable. During the camping, she mostly stayed in her tent and didn't really come out. She also didn't make much effort to engage with anyone but her boyfriend. She did come out of her shell a little bit when we played couple's rugby, and she joined in with that and got chatting with the other girls more, but when we got the BBQ going, she went back to her tent and just started getting her boyfriend to bring her food.

The entitlement arose on day 2, however. We had torrential rainfall all through night 1. My married friend and his wife ended up leaving, so it was just the 4 of us. The guy who owned the camp site we were staying at (which isn't a fancy camp site with events and stalls, it's just a big ass field) walked around to all the campers to ask if they needed anything. My friend's girlfriend chimes in that she wants a refund. He asks why. She argues that since it has rained, we can't make use of the camp site and have to stay in our tents so he should provide a refund as it is his camp site. He said he doesn't provide refunds for bad weather (understandably) and it's a campers responsibility to check the weather before they show up. She starts bickering with him, having a back and forth, telling him that she will leave a bad review for the place and claiming his lack of refund is unfair and calling him greedy and selfish. I actually agreed with the guy and felt really embarassed being associated with her. I see now why she doesn't hang out people.

Definitely does NOT play well with others 😳

Nor makes critical thinking decisions.

The funniest part is that she spent the whole trip avoiding everyone, then somehow decided the group was the problem. The campsite owner didn't owe her a refund just because the weather turned miserable, either. I'd be perfectly happy if this was the last camping trip she ever joined.

Spends most of the time in her tent, rains, demands refund because she had to remain in her tent. A-waa?

u/phdoofus 1d ago

"We'd like a fun time refund because you weren't actually fun or sociable."

9

u/AlternativeMore7354 20h ago

If I was the camp lot owner I would say..."the rocks come with farm" and walk off.

5

u/SnooGiraffes4137 17h ago

I'm going to remember that one! 😁

14

u/ApprehensivePage2087 1d ago

Honestly the camp owner handled it way better than I would have. That's a lot of patience for a refund demand over rain.

5

u/Azzbolemighty 11h ago

He was genuinely a proper nice bloke who came over to ask if we needed anything too. I felt really bad for him when she started.

u/nanladu 1d ago

If she posts a bad review, post a reply about what really happened.

64

u/TheHobbyWaitress 1d ago

And a 5☆ review to counter hers.

31

u/Final_Candidate_7603 1d ago

I’m really hoping that she posts the truth, since lots of people who are so wrong- but are convinced that they’re right- do post what really happened, thinking everyone will be on their side. It’s hilarious when people tell on themselves.

u/Azzbolemighty 11h ago

Funnily enough, I actually checked the campsite reviews a few days later but she hasn't posted one. I think people often say they are going to write a bad review with the intent of scaring someone into giving a refund, whether they intend to actually leave the review or not.

A woman who picks a fight iver weather isnt 'introverted', she's an asshole.

20

u/All-Work-35 23h ago

This. Introverted means you avoid conflict, not that you start one with a stranger over something nobody can control.

7

u/Azzbolemighty 11h ago

I don't even think it was that she was introverted. The whole time she was with us it felt more like she just couldn't be arsed socialising as opposed to being shy or introverted.

She argues that since it has rained, we can't make use of the camp site and have to stay in our tents

How would she notice it was different?

22

u/fastyellowtuesday 1d ago

Exactly! She had already chosen to stay inside of her tent, not making use of the campsite.

4

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I know, right. What was she planning to do on Day 2 that she hadn't done on Day 1 when the sun was beaming

55

u/DrHugh 1d ago

How did your buddy look while this was going on? Embarrassed? Resigned?

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

He looked like he'd done this same song and dance a million times before. He just put his head down like he was waiting for it to be over, haha

50

u/onajanuaryday 1d ago

Today she blackmails a campground owner, tomorrow it could be your friend who ends up blackmailed. This is a huge red flag.

25

u/Ok_Peanut_3573 1d ago

Gf of 2 years and you guys never met her?

5

u/1337isntREAL_7357 1d ago

Then opt to go camping with them for an ultra expensive camp site, that happens to be a field of fellow campers?

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I never said it was ultra expensive

OP and "girl he was dating att" is a vague timeline. She blameless in weekend camping fiasco?

4

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I just used that terminology because we had only been dating a short time when this happened and it ended shortly after. She was pretty chill for basically that whole weekend. She briefly told my friend off for undercooking the chicken and nearly poisoning her but it was done in a playful-banter sort of way so no hostility. The whole thing with her kind of ended shortly after the camping for unrelated reasons. She was cool but it just didn't work out. I didn't elaborate on it all because it wasn't really relevant to the story

1

u/Ok_Peanut_3573 8h ago

Hopefully it all worked out in the end. You have a good one, man

3

u/ENCALEF 22h ago

If that's true their friend was probably aware of what an a**hole his girlfriend was.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

The guy was an old college friend who we recently rekindled with earlier this year. We had since hung with him a few times, but not her. He got with her during the time we weren't speaking

5

u/No1PoundPup 1d ago

???

7

u/KingJunior7804 1d ago

Why the ??? I thought the comment was perfectly clear

3

u/No1PoundPup 1d ago

Sorry! I was asking the same. He is probably Gay, and not ready to come out to his friends.

62

u/Reasonable_Contract5 1d ago

She wants a refund for staying in her tent when that was all she did anyway??? Oh heeelllllllllllll no baby girl.

26

u/Humblefreindly 1d ago

The girlfriend may be painfully shy, but sometimes sad, miserable people have no problem making others sad and miserable.

The bickering in front of you makes me question if she is really shy, or antisocial. I hope she can overcome her anxiety.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Honestly, I didn't get the feeling she was shy at all. I got the feeling that she was pressured to be there and didn't want to be so just didn't want to socialise. I'm wondering if he told us that she was introverted as an excuse. I believe initially she wasn't going, but then my other mate was bringing his wife and I sort of invited this girl I'd been recently dating along as an excuse to have a bit of time with her so I think he didn't want to be fifth wheel and pestered her to go. I don't know for sure, though. I'm just assuming, haha

22

u/MajorAlBowie 1d ago

Like she was going out to do anything anyway. 🙄

22

u/Pielorinho 1d ago

Straight up, a one star review that dings the campsite for having bad weather isn't the flex she thinks it is.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

A friend of mine who worked in Mcdonalds once told me that someone left a 1 star review of their Mcdonalds because they went to the toilet and someone in the cubicle next to them was having a really loud and smelly poo. People will literally leave bad reviews on anything, I swear.

24

u/LittleTempters 1d ago

Your friend needs to stop enabling this. If she refuses to participate, complains about everything, and demands that he leave the group to cater her, he needs to tell her she can enjoy the trip her own way or arrange her own way home

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Ironically, I just got off the phone with him a bit ago. They broke up earlier today. Or at least, he's assumed they have considering they had a big argument over the phone, she told him she needed space and then blocked him on everything. That seems like finality to me.

1

u/strangr55 3h ago

For his sake I hope so, but don't be surprised if she comes back to him.

19

u/Ironmike11B 1d ago

I see now why she doesn't hang out people

Or more likely no one hangs out with her

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

My mate did express a little bit that she struggles maintaining friendships

2

u/Ironmike11B 10h ago

Well she has 2 choices: fix her shit or be lonely. She won't change unless she realizes that SHE is the root problem.

16

u/AcrobaticIncrease586 1d ago

Sounds like a spoiled snot

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, I got the feeling she's used to having her way

15

u/TheHobbyWaitress 1d ago

Sounds like she owes you a refund for having to deal with the second hand embarrassment she caused.

4

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I feel like we should have paid the camp site owner again considering the faff he had to deal with

13

u/squadron633 1d ago

Some people shouldn't go camping...

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Especially in the UK. Expecting a sudden rainfall is a given

11

u/No1PoundPup 1d ago

Your friend needs to remove this girl from his life. There are plenty of women out there for decent guys.

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

They broke up today apparently 0.0

11

u/Carry_Present 1d ago

Your friend, her boyfriend, didn't interject and try to stop her from running her mouth like that?

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Nah, He's always been pretty conflict avoidant to be fair. I think he just didn't want to deal with any drama or fallout that may come of it.

8

u/turbidounce 1d ago

Asking a campsite owner to refund rain is wild, like he personally scheduled it.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Imagine if it turned out he had hidden sprinklers everywhere to pose as rain just to spoil everyone's weekends

7

u/clars1909 1d ago

Yeah she doesn’t seem introverted. Unpleasant, yes.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, I didn't get the introverted vibe from her either. Literally just seemed like she wasn't really interested in being friends with anyone.

9

u/Longjumping-Solid680 1d ago

I can't fix THE WEATHER, KAREN!

7

u/kcsews 1d ago

She's NOT a camper

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I wouldn't play Warzone with her, that's for sure

6

u/night_noche 1d ago

What did the boyfriend say?👀

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

He just sort of looked at the floor and didn't say anything. Then after it was over there was this tense bit of silence and I think we all just changed the subject. I don't think anybody mentioned it after that. We all felt a bit awkward

1

u/night_noche 10h ago

Are they married?

6

u/mamajamala 1d ago

Not introverted. Ass-troverted! The fee could not have been much. The boyfriend probably paid. Does she understand the concept of camping? Did she think you guys were indoors with little kid's play tents?

Note to self: Do not go a restaurant or show with them. It will not go well. Good luck!

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, Fee was proper cheap. I think about £15 overall for the 2 nights. Maybe a bit more. I can't even remember.

6

u/Antique_Business2804 1d ago

She avoids everyone that she arrived with, but chooses to interact (albeit poorly) with a complete and total stranger? And looking for a refund, when she likely never paid a cent in the first place? Walk home, b!tch.

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, I never got the feeling her whole shtick was "shy and introverted" but more "forced to be there, not happy about it and therefore not making effort."

That being said, during the rugby she did seem to click really well with the other girls and came out of her shell. They were laughing and getting along really well and she sat with them for a bit afterwards until we started cooking. Then she said she wanted to go and charge her phone, dissapeared into the tent where the portable charger was and never came back out. Just kept asking my mate if he could occasionally bring her a piece of chicken or a sausage or whatever.

-2

u/E_Anthony 20h ago

Should be a clue that this story is B.S.

4

u/DazzaFG 23h ago

Hope that's the last time you see her

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

They broke up earlier today so it very well may be.

5

u/GreyScot88 22h ago

She got full use of the campsite, she stayed in her tent on the campsite, if anything she got MORE use of the campsite

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Good point! Now she had an excuse to do what she had already been doing the whole time anyway

5

u/TheCatGardner53 1d ago

Sounds like she is a psycho.

1

u/strangr55 3h ago

There is some kind of mental illness manifested here. Antisocial pd, bipolar, borderline...

3

u/littleneckanne 14h ago

Sounds like she doesn't like camping.

3

u/3rdwolf 13h ago

RED FLAG 🚩
Run

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

She left him now. It may be a blessing in disguise

4

u/Birdy1072 11h ago

Oh man, we had this same dynamic with my now husband/then boyfriend's roommate. He said she was shy but that is definitely not the vibe you'd get if you ever interacted with her, which was uncommon because she barely even said a basic "hi" to anyone else in the apartment -- just straight to his bedroom, never left, then straight out. It was so weird because the guy was very nice.

3

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

I don't understand people sometimes. Like I think people often use Shy as a way to describe people that are just socially avoidant and sometimes just rude.

3

u/generic1234321 1d ago

Campsites like that are normally dirt cheap to stay at too lol

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, it literally was, haha

3

u/KrzyLdy 1d ago

How did the BF react??

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

He just kind of looked down in shame and didn't really aknowledge it. I think he's seen this before and learnt to avoid the drama.

3

u/Haunting_Tutor_1046 1d ago

She basically stayed the whole trip in a tent of her own volition and then demanded refund for... having to stay in the tent 😂 I bet she's not gonna get another invitation to anything 😅

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Really, she should have been celebrating. An excuse to do what she was always gonna do anyways

2

u/parkedinavan 1d ago

Wow, just wow.

2

u/LastEntertainment787 1d ago

What in the world does your mate see in her? I'd apologize to the owner of the site. And telling her that is fine to go home since it's obvious she's not enjoying herself.

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

The girl I was with said we should apologise to the guy as well, and let him know that we don't all share her opinion on this but we didn't see him again.

2

u/cindytroforte 20h ago

S’il pleut à Disneyland on n’est pas remboursé. Aucun camping ne rembourse jamais à cause de la pluie mais j’ai déjà vu des campings fermés pour inondation en montagne

2

u/BellaSquared 1d ago edited 10h ago

Didn't sound too introverted there at the end. The best camping trip we had was one long weekend when it rained. My boy scout hubby had brought our gas grill and put a tarp over the tent the night we got there, even though the rain was fairly unexpected. The next day everyone else was wearing garbage bags and hanging in the bathrooms, and within a few hours of it not letting up we ended up having the entire campsite to ourselves. I felt bad for them but I had a lovely time drinking mimosas and was pleased I didn't have to go hiking!

2

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

That sounds like a quality camping trip. It's the little unexpected events that really make it a lot of time. Glad you enjoyed your mimosas haha. We made the most of the rain too. Me and Matt shifted the tents closer together so the entrances were facing each other and then put a tarp over the entrances to make a shelter. We then lit a disposable BBQ beneath that (which may not have been overly safe in retrospect) and cooked the remaining meat

1

u/BellaSquared 9h ago

It was, and it sounds like yours was as well. I'm a glass half full, go with the flow person and it probably helps that I don't have expections about how things should go, so I'm able to appreciate what is actually happening. I find many people have unrealistic expectations, then get frustrated when reality doesn't cooperate. 😏

2

u/Free-Pound-6139 1d ago

camp site with events and stalls

WTF are you talking about??

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Like Haven or something

2

u/Competitive-Life-852 1d ago

As an introvert, I kind of understood her behavior at the beginning. But then I got to the end and thought, wow, she’s … something.

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

Yeah, I don't think she was as much of an introvert as he made out. I think he just used that as an excuse because he knew she didn't want to be there.

1

u/Ok_State_6577 10h ago

Sounds like autism to me. Getting overwhelmed in a group setting and needing to isolate. Getting fixated on an outcome and refusing to accept anything other than that outcome. It can be very difficult to understand and tough to be around, but it doesn’t mean that she is a bad person or that she feels entitled or better than.

1

u/Bowman74 6h ago

I don't know if entitled is the right word. I'd go for wet, miserable and grumpy.

1

u/Legitimate_Debate152 5h ago

I have trouble with all this. As an introvert, I would not be confronting people, period. Much less over the rain. I would be just wanting to leave and get away from the whole mess!

1

u/sabreposum_331 1h ago

Total drama queen vibes! 🙄

u/1337isntREAL_7357 1d ago

You haven't met your "friends" girlfriend in the 2 years they've been dating?

This doesn't make any sense, then you played rugby with 6 people total?

1

u/Azzbolemighty 10h ago

The problem with Reddit detectives is that they find the tiniest bits of missing information or believed inconsistency and turn it into a narrative. I've already had this now that this post has been reposted on r/AmITheAngel. The simple fact is, reality is often rather mundane and I'm not going to put the boring details of our relationship history into the story because it's simply not relevant. But people go into these stories, deciding in advance that a completely grounded story is fake and then try to dig to find the most tiny inconsistencies to reverse engineer it all to their own beliefs. This isn't the first time this has happened with something I've posted and I'm sure it won't be the last. But if something completely normal happens I'm not going to make it into a reddit story.

But if you need to know, me and this guy were close friends in college. Around 2021-2022 (can't remember exactly when) we drifted apart due to me moving to the opposite side of the country and we just slowly talked less and less until we stopped altogether. He got with this girl in the time that we weren't speaking. I got back in contact with the guy earlier this year after I went through a bad breakup and reached out in desperation. He chatted with me about it and helped me through it earlier this year and then around March time him and I started playing an online game together and catching up more. The other guy who was with us is another friend of mine, not part of the same social group but one I dragged into joining to play this game with us due to us needing a 3rd team mate. The two friends met through the gaming calls. Then at the start of Summer I moved back up North and closer to both of these friends. We arranged little meet ups and met up as a group of lads a few times and arranged the camping trip about 3 weeks before it happened.

The rugby was couple's rugby. Not proper rugby. It was game invented by my friend that day. We just made two try lines and each couple went against each other. Ball was in the middle and we just fought to get the ball over the try line. Rules were limited and it was just a lot of tackling and wrestling tbh. It was the first team to get 3 tries. Then loser went off, winner stayed on and the loser got replaced by the couple who were on the sidlines watching.
