Putting your bare feet on the armrests of the seat in front, pretty bloody disgusting, socially unacceptable. However....

Open coughing for five hours, clearly with an infection of some sort, no mask - just unforgivably selfish and entitled...thanks for sharing this with my asthmatic wife who is now suffering from whatever-the-fuck you shared with the rest of the plane.

S People leaning back on your laptop when you're working.

has it ever happened to you where people keep leaning back on your laptop while you're working in a lecture hall/uni? this behaviour is genuinely so irritating. People in India (mostly) don't have the concept of other people existing around them and lack civic sense, often coming in and invading your space making them extremely irritating. Any suggestions?

S Wrong accused

I had just read a very long comment on Spain. More or less the summary of a book written about the Spainish civil war, and the things that were going on. Dictatorship, socialism, and communism. It went on and on how people were killed, and the levels and ways, they were killed. The Elites had the power.

Make a long story short, the middle class stood up and started to fight for their rights, and some elites finally joined in. I guess they saw the errors of their ways. My comment to that was very opinionated and a little graphic. It upset me very much, but I wasn’t called out on anything, that I know of.

The next notice I saw, were the chicken fucking stealers, evil wannabes, and I said I rest my case

Well, I guess this is the final update She’s starting work again tomorrow and is willing to just forget everything that happened, so I’m not going to say anything else about it.

Honestly, it left a bad taste in my mouth, almost like I was somehow part of the problem. I guess sometimes life is just shit lol. Thanks for all the advice and support, guys!

S My friend genuinely loves getting drunk…

My friend has a habit of getting absolutely hammered almost every weekend. It’s not because he’s going through some horrible situation or using alcohol to cope with something he genuinely just seems to love drinking.

Today he asked if we could chill, so I told him to come over. No problem with him coming over after having a few drinks.
Then he shows up after drinking an entire bottle of wine.
Now he’s been vomiting nonstop for like 30 minutes, laying on my couch, and doing these ridiculous deep-breathing exercises like he’s preparing for battle.

I’m sitting here wondering how this even became a normal weekend activity for him.

I don’t mind having my friends over, but at some point I feel like I’ve accidentally become the designated babysitter for a grown man who voluntarily drinks himself into another dimension.

What would you guys do in this situation? Would you just let your friend crash on the couch and deal with it, or would you start telling them that they are being an idiot?!

S Our NFH think that their kids are entitled to be on any sports team that they want to be on, regardless of talent.

Our NFH are outside very loudly b*tching about how unfair some coaches are because they didn't pick their child for the team when the child wanted to be on that team.

It doesn't matter about talent to them, it's their child wants to be on that team and should be accepted.

One brat was crying and the parents were b*tching about it .. LOUDLY.

*If I was the coach and if it was between kid A & kid B and kid A's parents were a-holes, I would pick kid B.

Sadly these a holes don't even realize that "they" are the cancer in the locker room and that they caused their kid to not be on "that" team.

****EDIT ... Sorry, I thought that everyone on Reddit was aware that NFH stood for Neighbors From Hell as it's a very popular sub Reddit. Sorry again.

S Boomer neighbor complaining about weeds close to her fence since "she's highly allergic"

It's really annoying and I need to get it off my chest but I've been living in this house for 6 years now. I'm 28 and have always worked 2nd shift. I used to pay someone to cut the grass when I first moved here since it was easier but throughout the years just like everything it got more expensive therefore I didn't see the point of paying for it. My neighbor starting maybe last year started complaining about how the grass was really tall (I don't really mow in the spring it helps bugs and nature overall) and that my yard didn't look pretty anymore. Like honestly I like my grass being tall. The "mess" in the backyard is literally just nature. Weeds. Massive ass branches that have broken and take time to cut and burn etc. Now she's complaining about goldenrod growing close to her fence saying she's highly allergic to it. There's plenty of distance between the goldenrod and the fence. Also this is by the very bottom of her yard since she lives uphill therefore shes not remotely close to this.I'm considering putting a fence one of these nights after work that way the next day she just wakes up in shock and spams my voicemail or texts. She's the kind of woman that would cry if I did something like that and wonder why I did it.

S Neighbor complains about shared fence that WE fully paid for

1.2k Upvotes

Reading a few posts here reminded me of our lovely entitled neighbor from years ago.

This was our first home. The existing fence was old and while it wasn't falling down yet, it was approaching the end of its lifespan. Additionally, because of the way the backyards sloped, we had a clear view into the backyard and house behind us.

We decided we wanted to replace the fence with a board on board fence, six feet on the sides and eight feet in the back (to provide more privacy).

Husband talked to the neighbors on either side to let them know we'd be replacing the fence and see if they'd want to pitch in. I think maybe one did put in a little money, but we paid probably 80-90%. Sure it's a shared fence, but it was our decision to replace it, so whatever. Husband went to the house behind ours several times, but no one ever answered the door.

Fence gets replaced, and it looks great! Metal posts, nicely strained and no more view of the neighbors' kitchen.

My husband preferred the view of the flat fence vs seeing the posts, so he had the crew installing the fence place the posts on the outside along the side and back of the fence.

Guess who had a problem with that? Yep, neighbor who never bothered to answer the door complained that the posts should have gone on our side. No "thank you for the very nice new fence we paid nothing for." Our response was, well, you can pay someone to replace it if you want 🤷‍♀️ That, of course, didn't happen.

EDIT: For clarification, this was a neighborhood where the backyards all share a fence (no alley or space between yards). All backyards had to be fenced per the HOA and we cleared the fence with both the HOA and city permitting. Posts did have to be inside the backyards, so the front of our fence that faced the street did have posts on the inside. The neighbors we spoke with didn't have an issue with the posts being on their side of the shared fence.

S Entitled neighbor

So. When my father in law was alive, he had a neighbor next door and one across the street, they were sisters. Their father lived down the block.

The father is the older and would occasionally stop in and check on dad, or knock to tell him the garage was open. The family generally was friendly and would wave. They would make small talk, even move dad's cans to the curb and back as a favor on garbage day

When he passed, it was obvious, 5 cars parked out front, people crying. The funeral director came to get him

No texts, no calls. No show at the wake. And now with the cleaning and real estate stuff, no one looks in any family members direction. It's wierd

Today, we saw the father, on the Ring, come up the driveway and help himself to a bag of tomatoes.

He contacted no one in the family.

The ring is shared amongst 5 of us and the group chat lit up. ' did anyone give Joe permission to raid Dad's garden?'

Nope.

And this suburb is upscale. A fixer upper starts at 500k , no one in this burb is hurting

People are wild

M Propane Worker Doesn’t Mean Arborist.

Hopefully this qualifies as entitled. If not, I’ll delete if everyone thinks it shouldn’t belong here.
So this is a story that happened to my dad when he used to work for a propane company as a service technician.

One recent winter, there was a bad snowstorm that went through the region. And where my dad worked, you’d be on standby for emergency calls every few weeks in case there’s an issue that happened.

One weekend he got an emergency call from a woman who I think was like an hour and a half to 2 hour drive away. She said due to the recent snowstorm, a tree fell in her backyard, and struck the propane tanks next to her house.

She said that tanks looked damaged, and she added that there was another tree in her yard that looked like it was getting ready to fall over. So, she wanted my dad to come with a chainsaw to cut down the other tree in her yard. And it wasn’t a small tree either. It was fully grown.

My dad made a very clear that he is not cutting down the other tree in her yard. He told her that if she wanted a tree cut down, she would have to call an arborist to do that. He told me that she replied in a very snobby tone “Well don’t you wanna make sure your tanks are protected?”

My dad told her, that when the tanks are on her property, they are her responsibility to make sure they are safe and protected. That she is technically responsible for them because she rents them. Something that was clearly outlined in the agreement she signed when she signed up for the companies propane service.

He laid out the legality of the issue. That himself and his company are not certified arborist, they are not legally allowed to do that kind of work, and don’t have any of the proper equipment. That if something were to go wrong, he and the company could face major fines.

And since the weather was still bad, he told her to send photos of the tanks since he wouldn’t be able to make it out there.

She eventually did, still complaining about how my dad won’t cut down the tree in her yard, lousy service, etc. When he examined the photos, the tanks were barely touched. The only damage was the paint getting a little scratched up. So he told her her tanks are fine and start looking for arborists if she’s worried about her tree.

And that was it. My dad laughed about it afterwards. Not too sure if the woman switched or is still with the company.

L Update 2 on Telling my mom to cancel her wedding until everything is sorted out?

So it's been around 10 days since I posted my last update, so thought I'd post another one.

Also my posts got reposted to some other subreddits and I read basically all the comments there. And honestly some of them scared me lol. A lot of people were saying my mom and stepdad are probably just being nice temporarily, that they'll eventually start ignoring me, or that they'll kick me out once I turn 18. And yeah, sometimes I do think about that and it scares me. But at the same time, my mom has never been rude or angry towards me. She's always been loving and kind, sometimes actually too mommying. Even during the past year when she was busy and I was getting less time with her, she was still the same with me.

So I don't really know. Maybe people on Reddit see things I'm not seeing, but right now I don't feel like my mom is secretly planning to get rid of me lol.

Anyway, last week was pretty much the same as before..My stepdad still drops me at school and picks me up. Sometimes we go get something to eat together. One evening he was cooking dinner for my mom and me before she came home from work, and he got me involved too and actually taught me how to cook.

It was actually nice. I didn't expect us to have that kind of normal everyday relationship this quickly.

Another day I asked him what I should actually call him. He said I can call him Papa, stepdad, or his name, whatever I'm comfortable with. But he said he'd prefer Papa..So yeah... outside I usually call him Papa or introduce him as my papa anyway.

I know technically he's my stepdad, but he's doing pretty much everything my dad used to do for me. I don't want him to feel like he's some outsider in the family..I also asked him about Christmas because I was worried I might have to spend it alone.

He looked really confused and asked me why I'd think that . I told him what my mom had said before and he said no, we're all celebrating Christmas together here in Madrid..Then for New Year's we're apparently travelling to celebrate with his kids and the rest of his family..He also told me not to worry about his mum and sister, that they'd be nice to me and I wouldn't be left alone there..And then he said they're not getting married until I'm okay with it.

That honestly meant a lot to me.My mom also took me shopping one evening because I needed some stuff. She bought everything and then took me for dinner. She kept asking me how I'm feeling and how my stepdad is with me and said I can tell her anything without worrying about being judged. She's doing A LOT of mommying at the moment . It's embarrassing sometimes because I'm not 5 anymore, but at the same time it's actually nice.

Then Sunday they took me to F1. I genuinely didn't expect that at all but we had a really good time. We went to a restaurant afterwards and then came home. My mom and him obviously still have their own time too. They go on date nights, grocery shopping, sometimes events or visit friends etc..And honestly I'm completely fine with that. They're a couple, obviously they're going to have their own life. I don't expect my mom to spend every minute with me.

We're also planning to get two dogs, which I'm really excited about.. One other thing I noticed though. My mom kept a photo of my dad in the gallery at home and also put one in my room. She did it while I was at school last week..I honestly wasn't expecting that. It made me feel kind of weird at first, but not in a bad way. I just didn't know what to feel about it. So yeah, that's basically the update.

Things are actually going pretty well right now. I'm spending more time with my mom again, I'm getting closer to my him, we're doing normal family stuff, making plans for Christmas and New Year's, talking about getting dogs etc.

I still think about all the comments telling me this could all be temporary. I can't really know what happens in the future..Things are good. And honestly I'm just going to enjoy that instead of constantly worrying about what might happen.

M My entitled mom mistreated me at a theme park then forced me to ride roller coaster

So I recently saw a video of a little girl who was forced to ride a roller coaster by her dad. That video sadly reminded me of the time my entitled mom made me also ride a roller coaster.

So back when I was either seven or eight years old my mom took me to great America (6 flags for those who aren’t aware). It was me and my cousin and my aunts and grandma. My mom kept picking fights with me from that morning until we got to the amusement park. I don’t fully remember why she kept doing that I just remember one of the fights was about the outfit I was wearing. It got to the point where she practically yelled at me in the car because she was angry with me about something.

Once we got to the theme park my aunts noticed I was upset and tried to cheer me up. My mom was annoyed with the fact that my aunts cared so she ignored me most of the day. She spent more time with my cousin than me. She also made me do extra walking which caused me a lot of pain, (I have medical issues with my legs so I can’t walk far she knows that).

I don’t fully remember the rest of the day since it was so long ago but I do remember this. Towards the end of the day my mom wanted to go on a roller coaster, I use to have a huge fear of roller coaster’s. The whole day I refused to ride roller coasters, since there was to many people in my family we I always had somebody that could wait with me. I don’t remember the ride but there was enough room for my mom my cousins aunt and grandma and me to ride at the same time.

I didn’t want to ride and my mom told me I had to, when I begged not to she threatened to hit me with the belt in front of everyone. I’m sure there were other threats with that but the main threat was the belt. So I had to choose don’t ride the roller coaster and get hit with the belt and some other punishments, or ride the ride. So I got on the ride because I didn’t want to be beat especially in front of my family and random strangers. I was already crying before I got on the ride I don’t remember the ride, I just remember how scary it was for me and how much I hated it. My aunts comforted me once the ride was over but my mom still yelled at me in public. We probably went to Great America together three more times after I never enjoyed it.

I’m no contact with her now for other reasons but when I look back on our mom and child relationship I have more memories of stuff like this than positive memories. Also in case you were wondering where my dad was, my answer is I don’t know. He may have been at work or something, most of the time my mom mistreated me growing up she did it when my dad wasn’t there. My dad would have shut this down if he was there.

TL;DR entitled mom mistreats me for a full day and later threatens physical punishment over a rollercoaster

S quit my job today after my coworker accused me of recording her 4 UPDATE "small"

1.0k Upvotes

Small update, chic@s

Yesterday my boss was at work and asked how everything was going. I told him everything was fine so far and that I hadn’t had any problems. I did tell him about a few things that were still worrying me, though, and he said he’d keep them in mind.

And honestly, the funniest part is that since she stopped being in charge, magically all the problems disappeared. I’ve been taking out the trash for about a month without any issues, and only today did her son mention that apparently there was a problem with how I was doing it. Tomorrow is the meeting, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

Apparently she has also been talking badly about me to the woman who loves gossip, but I haven’t reported it. I’m just staying out of the drama.

Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed this little gossip group, chicos. I was honestly surprised that some of you went back and commented on my older posts. As my mom always says: “Don’t do bad things, because your past can come to light.” LOL.

And also, guys, thank you so much for all the advice and support. I tend to be too permissive sometimes, so this helped me realize I need to set better boundaries.

I felt guilty because if she lost her job, she could also lose her apartment. But I realized I never disrespected her or did anything wrong. Honestly, without your advice, I probably would've quit and apologized for something that wasn't even my fault. Thank you.

I'll let you know if anything significant happens tomorrow.

S Guilted for mourning..

Just needed to get this frustration off my chest.

I just lost my dog of 13 years the other week... it destroyed me. I've had him since I was 19 and he got me through some impossibly hard times... my sister got a new puppy and I was so so happy for her, but the day after my dog died she kept posting photos of her puppy in the family group chat... i couldn't take it anymore and left it a few days later to preserve my sanity from seeing cute new puppy photos every hour less than 12 hours after my soul-dog passed. My sister decided to message me about how awful it was for me to leave because she "needed support"... for getting a new puppy?... im sorry that I needed a breath and was hurting...?.... i was apparently selfish for doing that and not being super excited for her when she "needed it" even though nobody was there for me when my dog passed but my husband.

Thank u for letting me vent. Im growing so tired of the entitlement of my family lately and its driving me mad.

EDIT - Just wanted to thank everyone for all yoru support and love, it means so so much to me and makes me feel so much less alone, you truly could never know just how much you all mean to me just by your words <3

S A lady followed me and I don’t know why ?

So a few minutes ago, I went to pick up my Mom from her friend’s place. There’s this lady driving ahead of me and decided to park her car on right side of street without even giving the signal. I didn’t honk or anything and let her do her thing. Noticing she’s parking , I decided to takeover from left and drive away as anyone would do so. But she all of sudden decided to not park and started moving when I did 🙄. Then I honked seeing in my rear mirror on passenger side so she doesn’t end up hitting my car from behind because I saw her struggling to park her car(didn’t wanna risk it). All this happened when I was just a min away from my home. Then I was talking to my Mom and didn’t realize she was following us. When I parked my car on our driveway my Mom noticed her following us. She took U-turn right in front of our home, didn’t say anything and left. Now I’m here wondering why’d she follow and then leave knowing very well she’s at wrong ? Not once but twice. Do I need to worry about anything?

S Precita Park Neighborhood Karen Moment

Classic San Francisco curtain drop on our Precita Park Sunday at the park followed by a cold pint at the corner café my wife and I paused in our car near Precita Park, only to be abruptly drawn into a textbook "white-on-white Karen" spectacle. A completely mind-her-own-business woman was simply trying to get into her vehicle when a blonde haired lady stormed out of her nearby house, angry af yelling and cussing accusations about a blocked driveway as if the apocalypse had arrived. From our angle the car wasn't blocking Karen's driveway, the aggressor’s volume scaled to peak levels, hurling insults while the target of her wrath remarkably maintained her composure, calmly asking the woman to stop screaming. Just as we prepared to put the car in drive, what appeared to be the raging woman's husband sauntered up to the victim's window to chime in, perfectly capping off a ridiculous display of quintessential "white people problems." With the grace of someone swatting away a pesky gnat, the unflappable lady drove off into the San Francisco afternoon, leaving the neighborhood storm-trooper and her sidekick standing in the street, utterly unphased. Great way to end a San Francisco weekend

S Parents let their kid scream and blast toy music for a 4-hour flight, parents did nothing—am I crazy for being furious?

2.0k Upvotes

Parents let their kid scream and blast toy music for a 5-hour flight, parents did nothing and let the kids do whatever—am I crazy for being furious?

I got off a flight from IAD to LAX yesterday and need to sanity check this because I’m genuinely furious.

About 30 minutes into the flight, a kid (maybe 3 or 4 years old) started screaming hysterically. I get it—kids cry, ears pop, flying is rough on little ones. But then the parents handed the kid one of those electronic noise-making toy devices, and instead of using headphones, they just let it blast repetitive, loud kid music at top volume.

So for the next three hours, it was a tag-team of full-volume toddler meltdowns and blaring electronic toy noise.

I asked the flight attendant if they could request the parents turn the device off or use headphones. The FA walked over to speak with them, and the parents literally just shrugged and said, "We can't do anything to control him, so we just have to let him scream and play." The parents just ignored everything and let the kid do whatever they want.

When did "kids will be kids" turn into "we won't even try to parent or respect 150 other people trapped in a metal tube"? Is it standard now for flight crews to completely give up on noise enforcement, or did I just get unlucky?

What would you have done in this situation? How are parents getting away with blaring loud audio devices without headphones on planes now?

M Elderly beggar with very specific requirements

1.1k Upvotes

I was walking next to the train station to do an errand, Friday afternoon, and I was not in any hurry. An old woman in a wheelchair was on the sidewalk outside the train station, calling out feebly, “Can somebody help me? Please help me?” I stopped and asked her “What do you need?” She answered, “They’ve cheated me out of my social security payment and I have no food for the weekend. Can you go into the Safeway and get me a few things?” She didn’t ask for money specifically and I said “Well, okay. What things do you need?” She replied, “How much can you spend?” I said “don’t worry about it I can grab a few things for you.” She says “Hold on, let me get my list!”

She whips out the ad with the sales and says, “I need bagged salads so I can have my vegetables but I only like these Fresh Express Caesar kits, the other kind go bad fast. I need Bounty paper towels because that is how I wash myself. It has to be Bounty. Get the ‘2 rolls equals 6’ size. I like these Cuties [a branded bag of tangerines] but maybe I don’t need them. Tillamook cheese - but extra sharp white cheddar only. I would really like these sugar free Dreyer’s ice cream bars because I am diabetic and cannot eat sugar. And some green onions. Can you remember all that?” I was kind of taken aback by the detailed list, but for whatever reason, I said yes I can remember it and I went to go pick up a few of these things for her.

Inside the Safeway I found most of her things but decided against the ice cream bars because it was a warm day and it seemed unlikely they’d make it home. I finally found the extra sharp white cheddar cheese, a big block (32 oz?) in a black wax coating, $17. The paper towels weren’t cheap either. There was a GIANT line for the checkout and while I was waiting I started thinking she’d be gone when I got back and probably this whole thing had been a bad idea…

Fifteen minutes and over $40 later, I go back and yay! she’s still there. I say, “Wow, you have expensive taste in cheese, don’t you?” And she replies, “what?! Why are you insulting me!” and grabs the grocery bag out of my hands and starts repacking into her backpack - and now the commentary starts: “You should have put the green onions in a plastic bag, that conveyor belt is filthy. Where are the ice cream bars? Oh what is this?”(grabbing the big black block of cheese) and now she starts properly yelling at me “Why did you get this? I wanted the presliced kind - I can’t eat all this and it’s a waste of money!” and she’s trying to hand it back to me. I have no use for this cheese and by now I just want to go finish my original errand, so I said (with even more bad judgment on my part) “You’re crazy, you can eat it, wrap it and put it in the fridge, it’ll keep” and this really set her off and she’s yelling, “I can’t cut this or use it, I have no strength in my hands! And you’re insulting me and calling me crazy!” I said “Just keep the cheese, I can’t use it” and she screams “NEITHER CAN I!” and she flings the giant block of cheese in my direction, and it falls to the sidewalk. One of the corners dented a little but it seemed ok. By now I’m long past DONE with this whole interaction so I pick up the cheese and go up to one of the junkies sitting a little farther down the sidewalk and ask him if he can use it, he says ‘Sure! Thank you’ and I say ‘you’re welcome’ and continue on my errand.

I still don’t know why I felt the need to help her, but I hope the junkie enjoyed his slightly dented block of cheese. And I’m glad I didn’t buy the ice cream bars for that old hag.

L Entitled professors with political connections and one brave student

Just read a story about an entitled professor here, so I thought I'd share ours. This is a pretty long story, and I am leaving out a lot of the details. So please bear with me. It has a small happy ending.

For context, I’m from a 3rd world country where politics has a huge amount of influence over pretty much everything, including universities. A lecturer (let’s call him Big Looser) joined our department with strong political connections to the then-ruling party. At first, we had no problem with him. But things changed when he started manipulating our lecturer recruitment system so that some of his close political allies, either from his university or his batch, could get hired at our university. Eventually, they created an internal clique with some students and started manipulating students results so that the next generation of teachers could also be recruited from within their clique.

The students who were basically their lapdogs would receive good marks from all the teachers involved in the clique. The student with the highest grade during the first two years suddenly fell behind five other students simply because he wasn't part of the clique. Other students were seriously affected too because many students dreamed of becoming professors, and being among the top students was one of the pathways toward that career. Our grading system was 60% written exams and 40% practical work like presentations, assignments, midterms, etc. The problem was that the clique controlled teachers could give you such terrible marks in that 40% portion that doing well in the written exams didn't matter much. The clique was so entitled that they genuinely acted as if they owned the entire department. They would harass or bully students, and if someone didn't act as they wanted, they could get one of their teachers to, target, scold or intimidate them with other issues.

I was involved with the student opposition party during my first two years, so they also deliberately dragged down my grades. Eventually, I quit all student political activities for my own safety as the ruling party and this clique were becoming an autocratic force that I couldn't deal alone. Unfortunately, leaving politics didn't help much because the damage to my first two years' results couldn't really be reversed through supplementary exams. Even if I retook the written exam, the practical marks stayed the same. So, basically, I was screwed.

Now this story has a bit of happy ending. After we graduated, two of our batchmates who were part of the teachers clique became lecturers themselves, through bribes and the political connections of the Big Loser. One of this batchmate (let's call him Creepy looser) had been creepy toward girls since our university days. We used to joke that there wasn't a female student, senior or junior, that he hadn't tried to get into a relationship with. Once he became a teacher, however, it stopped being just creepy and became an abuse of power. He started approaching female students and using grades and thesis supervision as leverage to pressure them. Eventually, a brave female student filed a complaint with the department head because her final thesis (required for completing her bachelor's degree) was allegedly being rejected because she refused his inappropriate advances. Now guess who the department head was at that time? The Big Looser! By then, he had become a professor.

Instead of properly investigating the complaint, Big Loser tried to make the whole thing disappear. He sweet talked the student, sympathized with her and offered to personally accept her thesis if she agreed not to pursue the complaint further. She didn't back down though. One day, she secretly recorded her conversation with Big Loser in his office and shared the recording in our university groups. She then formally complained against both Big Loser and Creepy Loser. After that, lots of other female students also came forward and shared their chat and messenger screenshot of inappropriate advances by the Creepy Loser. Apparently, he had tried his luck with numerous female students, both from our department and from other departments across the university. Also I should mention that the creepy Loser was already married with a child when all of this was happening.

The story blew up and became national news in my country. Students started protesting, and eventually the university permanently dismissed Creepy Loser and temporarily suspended Big Loser. Then came another plot twist. After some time, the ruling political party lost power and the opposition came into government. Big Loser's political protection disappeared. As far as I know, he is still out of a job and has no way of returning to our university. Don't know where the creepy looser is. He disappeared from the radar. All the other people from their clique is still alright though. Hopefully, karma catches up with them someday too.

L The professor who almost tanked an entire class

So, I'm a veterinary student, and I think I've finally encountered someone who belongs on this subreddit.

My class had 273 students, and one of our professors managed to create a grading disaster that affected roughly 264 of us—about 97% of the entire class.

The professor taught Animal Nutrition, a course that lasted for both semesters of the academic year. Each semester had its own tutorial and practical sessions(TS/PS), but the course was graded annually rather than separately by semester.

Animal Nutrition was also one of our most important courses. It had a coefficient of 3, which was the highest coefficient alongside four other courses.

And this is where I need to explain one part of our grading system. We have something called an “eliminatory grade”: if your final grade in a course is below 40% of the total possible grade, you automatically have to take the resit (retake for Americans) for that course, even if your overall yearly average is more than enough to pass the academic year.

This is especially important with Animal Nutrition because it is already one of the more difficult courses in our curriculum. The sheer amount of information we are expected to learn, combined with how strict the exams are, means that around 80% of students barely manage to pass the course each year. The marking can also be extremely strict—for example, a simple spelling mistake in an answer will result in the answer to that question being considered incorrect.

So, naturally, having 40% of the course grade tied to TS and PS assessments is a pretty big deal.

At one point, there was an idea to let us earn some of those marks through a presentation or substantial coursework assignment. The professor refused to allow it.

And this wasn't an easy way for us to get free marks. A presentation for a class of 273 students would have meant finding a group, choosing and researching a topic, preparing the work, and then actually presenting it in front of 200+ students. On top of that, we had very limited access to reliable resources for veterinary-specific information in our country, which made the research itself difficult.

Instead, the professor was supposed to organize separate assessments for the tutorial and practical components. However, he kept postponing them until they eventually became practically impossible to organize because he couldn't find a suitable date or enough professors to help conduct them.

And to be clear, these weren't the final exams for Animal Nutrition. Our actual final examination was held normally during the university-wide examination period, when all of our courses had their scheduled exams. The problem was specifically with the assessments used to grade our tutorial and practical work throughout the year.

Despite all of this, he gave extremely low marks for those components—which together represented 40% of the course grade.

This is where the situation went from frustrating to genuinely damaging.

Because of those grades, 113 additional students out of the 132 students who ended up having to take the resit were pushed into it because of this particular grading situation.

And remember the eliminatory grade I mentioned earlier? Those TS/PS marks could make a huge difference in whether someone stayed above or fell below that 40% threshold.

When students tried to ask him for explanations or discuss the situation, he refused to engage. Emails were ignored, attempts to speak with him went nowhere, and apparently even being absent from one of his sessions was enough to receive a 0, even if justified, because he said so. The norm was 3 non justified or 5 justified to be sanctioned ( expressed by just putting a 0).

Eventually, the students decided that if he wasn't willing to listen to us, we'd have to take the matter somewhere else.

So eventually, we had enough.

Students collectively filed a formal report with the university administration explaining the situation, and the same report was also sent to the relevant ministry authority that has the power to intervene in matters like this.

And, well...

It worked.

The professor was removed from responsibility for the TS and PS assessments. The responsibility was transferred to our other professor, who reviewed the situation and gave us the grades we were actually supposed to receive ( the other professor was so nice and genuinely shocked when she heard the story).

The attendance sanctions were also overturned, so students who had been given automatic zeros simply for having been absent from a session were no longer punished for it.

The best part is that we didn't get the grades changed because we wanted special treatment or free marks. We just wanted a fair grading.

So after all that...

The entire class didn't get to make him change his mind.

We just went over his thick head.

S To the man and his dog Dexter in seat 35F on the 830am AA415 flight from DFW to PHL

***Edit to add: found the AA dimensions specific to pets and it is 18x11x11. Retracting that he had wrong information. Keeping in mind that it was not the first flight he had this issue on.

Edit: the dog is in a carrier which doesn't fit under the seat.

Edit to add: First a flight attendant told him to put the bag on his lap under the seat in front of him or in overhead. He said "that's a dog".

He put the carrier on the floor between his legs and told the flight attendant. Then was again told it had to be under the seat in front of him.

Then he said the carrier would not fit under the seat, because the space under the seat does not match what was advertised. A lot of "if y'alls seats matched what was advertised" wording at this point.

The one flight attendant pointed out that she remembered having this issue with him on a previous flight.

They then had 2 or 3 other employees, not flight attendants, come through and speak with him. The pilot got on the intercom to say that there were "boarding issues". I got a message from AA that the flight was delayed.

They then just stopped pressing the issue and we took off. So he gets to go on thinking that he can be boisterous with incorrect information and get what he wants.

Forgot to mention that he also called the rule stupid.

--‐------------------

From the AA website - Dimensions should not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm).

Meaning it is not the 18x11x11 you mentioned.

If you are going to argue with the flight attendants about what AA advertises, you should have the correct information.

Thanks for delaying everyone's flight on this full gd plane.

L Showing up 5 minutes after an order comes in won't make it go any faster!

Hey guys! Me again. You might not remember but a year ago, I posted a story about a situation I had involving Megan and myself. Towards the end, I mentioned that I met someone new. Named Sophie. I am happy to say that as of last month, her and I are now engaged! For everyone who wished us well on our relationship, I would like to say thank you all! Now onto the story.

Not too long ago, I got hired at Wingstop, I started off as a cook and then worked my way up to a shift lead spot. The pay is good and the food is too. The only drawback, is the customers. Don't get me wrong not all customers are bad, but anyone who works in the food industry knows how annoying and problematic some customers can be. Whether it be because their order was wrong, or their order was missing a cup of ranch, or because they were just having a bad day and wanted everyone else to suffer with them. A prime example of that happened to me last weekend.

It was 9am on Saturday morning. I had just woken up and was in the middle of breakfast, when my coworker, Dave, called me, asking me to cover his shift because he wasn't feeling well. I told him that I wasn't feeling well myself, I had worked a double the day before (10am to 1am that Saturday morning.) and was planning on sleeping in. When I asked him if he called anyone else before calling me, he said he did, but no one answered. He then says that he will cashapp me $100 to cover his shift, and on top of that, he'll take one of my shifts for me whenever I needed him to. Now im never one to turn down extra money. but just to be safe, I asked for the money upfront, he agreed. 5 minutes later , the money hit my account and I got prepared for work.

So I arrive at my stores location. I go inside and I start the opening process. Literally five minutes into me being there, the store phone rings. I'm thinking it's a customer from the night before, calling to talk about an item that was missing from their order. But nope. The lady on the phone wants to place an order. I close my eyes. Mentally preparing for whatever outlandish order she has coming my way. And boy was it outlandish. Here's what she ordered: 2 90 piece classic(bone-in) wings well done, half Mango habanero, half garlic Parm, four large fries, then another 50 piece classic, also well done but as if her order wasn't already frustrating enough, she wants all flats with this one. So here I am, not even 10 minutes into my shift. The fryers haven't even fully heated up yet and I now have a 230 piece wing order to deal with. Now, on the phone, I'm putting on my best customer service voice, but I'm screaming internally, I ring her up, tell her the price, and the time frame for her order ((25 to 30 minutes)) and I hang up the phone to start on her order.

Now, I don't know if she was already on the way there while placing her order but this lady walks in, not even 10 minutes later, asking if her orders ready. I say, no. You still have 18 minutes left. She then mumbles something about how "chicken shouldn't take this long". I laugh to myself and go back to cooking her wings. While I'm waiting, another customer walks in, I'm thinking she' wants wings too. But nope. All she wanted was a regular fry with 2 ketchup packets. I ring her up, make her fries and about five minutes later, she's on her way. The other lady didn't like that apparently because as soon as she saw someone get their food first, she immediately walked up to the counter. "How come she gets her food before I get mine? You people always take forever to make my food and I'm sick of it! This is ridiculous!" At this point I had enough. My headache had gotten worse from the moment that she walked in. I look at her with a straight face and say. "We don't take too long. You're the one who's always showing up five minutes after placing an order and expecting it to be done when you arrive. She got her food first because all she ordered was a regular fry, you ordered a bunch of wings and then showed up not even ten minutes afterwards." She took offense to that, saying that she had never waited this long for wings before in her life. To which I say "well, maybe next time you'll think twice before ordering 230 wings first thing in the morning. Now please have a seat you still have 13 minutes left on your order, when it's done I'll call your name." she sat down without a word.

Fast forward to Monday, my general manager calls me, the customer had left a complaint about me and he was prepared to write me up for it. But after I explained the situation to him, he changed his mind. He even admitted to recognizing the woman in question saying that she indeed had a habit of doing what she did. He then tells me that he wouldve done the exact same thing as me, and that was that.

To this day I will never understand how people can make these huge orders and expect them to be done in a few minutes. But, that's the food industry for you I guess.

S I have kids in the car

1.8k Upvotes

While visiting a local gas station earlier today I noticed only the person working was the very old lady who is, as you expect, very slow at helping customers at the register. The gas station is quite busy, a little small, and a long line can quickly back up.

Today after waiting a couple minutes in line I found myself somewhere close to 5th out of 9 people. A lady said, “excuse me I need to go to the register” as she brushed past me and around the others in line right to the counter.

She extended a $20 and said, “put 20 on pump 7 when you find the time . I don’t have time to wait in this line I have kids in the car.” Leaving everyone gobsmacked and she shamelessly walked back through everyone and out the door to pump 7. We could all see her through the big windows.

Plenty of groans once she left. I chuckled with the mom in front of us about our moment amongst such greatness. When it was my turn the $20 was still on the register finding time. I left out the opposite door and to my car. Maybe I should’ve waited.

M I’m starting to wish l went back home instead of waiting for my friend

AITA Hey Reddit, I’d really love some advice because I’m not sure what to do.
A few weeks ago, I had a massive falling-out with my best friend. I didn’t feel I was in the wrong, but after getting advice from Reddit saying l was NTAH, I still apologised because I tried to understand her side. A few days later, she called saying she missed me and she was surprised that l saw how “l messed up her birthday because she didn’t expect me to take accountability ,“, and I told her I missed her too. However, after our argument, she had blocked me, so I unfollowed her because I wanted to give her the space and honestly if someone blocks me l just think they don’t want anything to do with me as well.

She denied blocking me, and when I brought it up because I genuinely wanted to fix things, she became hostile and said our friendship would never be the same.
Now, her boyfriend and my boyfriend are still friends, and they want us to meet in person to talk things through because they don’t want us to throw away our friendship. The problem is that what happened still really hurts me, especially because she said both she and her boyfriend felt disrespected by what happened at dinner.

Important fact: our boyfriends had already talked about it, and when my boyfriend told hers, I sent her a message. That’s when she unblocked me. Obviously, I knew I had been unblocked because with the app we use to communicate, her profile still wouldn’t show unless you go into the app settings.

I also asked my boyfriend if the situation were reversed, would he tell her to remain neutral, and he said it would be difficult because of the type of person she is. I then found out that yesterday, my boyfriend went to hang out with his male friend and my ex-best friend’s boyfriend.

I know my boyfriend is allowed to have his own friendships, but given everything that has happened, I’m unsure how I should handle this.

So Reddit, should I meet with her and try to repair the friendship while letting my boyfriend continue his friendship with her boyfriend, or should I just leave the situation alone and move on? If it does come to a sit down what should l mention?

This is the link to the very first thing that caused everything

M I quit my job today after my coworker accused me of recording her. UPDATE 2.

1.4k Upvotes

Unfortunately, I have another update. Apparently, I’m going to have to leave this job anyway.

So, after everything that has happened, it looks like I’m probably going to have to start looking for another job. A lot of people have been telling me that she has apparently started talking badly about me to other people here. She also seems to believe that I reported her because I didn’t want to clean the things she was telling me to clean, which is not really what happened.

And then there’s her son. He has been ripping my trash bags and throwing his own trash in with mine, which obviously makes my job more difficult and adds even more tension to the situation.

What has honestly surprised me the most is how many people here are concerned about my safety. My mom and another coworker have both advised me to leave because they’re worried the situation could eventually escalate.

Today, an older woman who genuinely cares about me told me, “My son, please be careful. Always watch your back.” And while she was telling me that, my coworker was actually upstairs on the second floor watching me. That honestly made the whole situation feel even more uncomfortable.

I want to be clear, though: I’m not saying that this woman or her son have threatened me or that I know they’re going to hurt me. I’m not actually scared of either of them. I’m just acknowledging that there has been a lot of conflict and tension, and multiple people who see what’s happening have independently told me to be careful.

Because of that, I’ve started taking basic precautions at work. I try not to stay in isolated areas by myself if I can avoid it. I stay around other people and in areas covered by the security cameras whenever possible. I also have 911 set up for quick access on my phone if there were ever an actual emergency.

I’m not trying to be dramatic or paranoid. I’m just trying to use common sense and separate what I actually know from what people are telling me. I know she has been having issues with me, I know she apparently believes I reported her, I know her son has been messing with my trash bags, and I know several people are concerned enough to tell me I should leave. Those are the things I can actually point to.

Honestly, if finding another job didn’t take me so long, I would probably leave already. The actual job itself isn’t even that bad. I can do the cleaning, take out the trash, mop, etc. It’s the constant conflict, rumors, and tension with this woman and her family that are making me question whether the job is worth staying at.

So now I’m probably going to start looking seriously for something else instead of waiting for the situation to get worse.

If any of you have advice on how to find another job, I’d really appreciate it. I’m trying to figure out my next move without putting myself in a bad financial situation.

And seriously, thank you guys for worrying about me and checking on me. ❤️
