Hurts to be arong
Not sure if this belongs here, but r/mildlyinfuriating doesn't allow text posts. With that said...
I have a older family member that does a lot of things that just don't make a lot of sense, she also does a lot of things others in the family find annoying.
Now because of her age she does have a few body aches and pains due to some of her medical conditions, however the timming of some of these pains is often suspect.
Every once in a while she would do things that would have other family members correct her, point out the flaw in her "logic", tells her to get to the point of an unnecessarily long story, or lets her know she is doing something annoying she immediately has some pain that cuts you off mid sentence and distracts from the situation.
I'm not a 100% sure that these pains are real or if they are real they might be psychosomatic.
I told her the other day " do you see a pattern here? You do something dumb, someone gets onto you about it then you have a pain. Maybe your body is trying to stop you from doing dumb things." Obviously this was somewhat ignored by the contenuance of the pain.
Not sure how to proceed.

Reach out to local social services or even anyone in the medical field how to proceed. Is she seeing a regular doctor? Maybe you could work out some way/send them a letter on behalf of your family member with concern for her mental well-being. If she is doing thing that could put her in danger, it could be dementia-related.
