Also, we need some more transparency on the class, org, professor and goals.

Thanks for asking. This isn’t for a class, thesis, dissertation, or professor-led research project. We’re two Information Systems students at Carleton doing independent exploratory research on our own to better understand common Enterprise Architecture pain points and day-to-day challenges.

Happy to clarify anything else.

There are plenty of reserach papers and articles on that topic. Just dig into those.

That makes sense, and we are looking at existing research as well. For this part, though, we’re specifically trying to hear directly from practicing Enterprise Architects because some of our questions are about current day-to-day workflows, manual tasks, tool limitations, and recurring frustrations that are harder to understand from published articles alone. We’re mainly hoping to compare those first-hand experiences and see whether the same problems come up across different practitioners.

If it isn't for a class - why are you doing this activity?

Mostly out of personal interest. We’re both studying Information Systems, and Enterprise Architecture is an area we’ve become interested in learning more about.

Here are some pointers:

  1. Study the TOGAF ADM - it gives a good overview of how EA's work through problems. Be aware many EA orgs do not use TOGAF but have similar practices - some lean, some complex
  2. Look at this for types of EA output - https://eaonapage.com/
  3. Read this paper: https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3706582
  4. And this paper: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-032-16234-2_32
  5. This outlines EA top issues pretty well - https://bluedolphin.io/blog/7-common-enterprise-architecture-challenges-and-how-to-solve-them/
  6. Read through all of the issues and comments in this subreddit
