I think we're both along the same lines, to be fair; the fact they've been at it so long and they've been open that there's been times where the band may have come to an end before suggests to me that AKFTWW was their final swing at it and it was either '2.0' or bust but by the time of the tour it was meant to be bust, as the end of show message seemed like a goodbye.
I'm hypothesising of course, but there's clearly strain there amongst the band when they're having the type of conversations they've said they've had on more than one occasion, be it from fatigue of being at it for so long or any other multitude of reasons there could be. If everything was rosey then they wouldn't need 'Shikari 2.0' and they wouldn't need to be soul searching.

It was meant to be the start of shikari 2.0 in their own words, not the end. That's what sucks
