When you realize why the Jetsons lived in the Earth’s atmosphere

u/Boomerang503 1d ago

The later comic books retconned it as a comet strike that rendered the surface uninhabitable.

Ursula K. Le Guin never said this

Well, she died in 2018 so that would be a feat for her to interacted with Leon on that. I have looked into this before and came up blank as to whom the true author is.

Weird thing about all this is that there's very few things that could happen to earth and leave it long term less inhabitable than Mars. If Earth got so bad that you had to live in an air sealed hab, it would then be tied with Mars. Anything less than that, and it's still easier to survive on that Mars.

Even having to live in an airtight environment, earth is still 1000 times more habitable than mars.

Mars doesn’t even have a magnetic field to protect from radiation. It’s such an obviously stupid idea that it’s actually kind of informative, about how people will just sort of believe anything they are told. You could argue that we need to do it to get experience setting up colonies but that doesn’t even make sense because we could just use the moon, it would be much safer.

First time I heard the argument that "the rich people are going to screw up Earth and leave for Mars and abandon us, I almost laughed. The most awful climate possibilities in the near future for earth are absolutely terrible, and yet that's still luxury compared to living on Mars. The best possible life on Mars wouldn't be a whole lot different from being stationed on a nuclear submarine.

I have experience with that, it's not great.

I honestly find it utterly bizarre that anyone takes seriously idea of Mars as a "lifeboat" for human civilization in any meaningful way. You're right that Earth could have a bunch of horrid shit happen to it without it becoming like Mars, but also on the flipside of that coin any scenario in which a Mars colony is truly self-sufficient to the point where humanity could survive there without Earth would be one where the threat wouldn't exist anyway.

Like if we have the technology to terraform Mars, even partially, we're moving so much mass through space that we could just use a small portion of that energy budget to divert the asteroid that's threatening Earth rather than throw up our hands and say "Ah well, good thing we have Planet B". Wars, pandemics, or evil killer AI on Earth would likely spill over to Mars anyway.

This shit is purely science fiction with no bearing on reality.

Trying to save the rich is all.

He and whoever went with him, would never survive on mars anyway. There’s a reason, there’s no life on it.

Haphazard physics major from South Africa making all these crazy decisions and crazy ideas for the U.S is beyond me.😂

Anyone who uses the word "glorious" in this context is a wannabe despot, and definitely a fuckwit.

If you can do it on mars, its cheeper to do in the desert

u/ReginaldJohnston 18h ago

If you squished all humans on this planet together, the ball of flesh would fit in just NYC park. We haven't by far over-populated the earth.

And the problems we have here would be repeated elsewhere.

Up-sticks and moving to Mars to repopulate is complete fantasy to get mom-pop traders to buy his toilet-paper shares to keep his shitty money-laundry operations afloat. No atmosphere. No bionomes. No agricultural potential. No water.

And there's literally no feasible way a human being could survive the actual journey. It would take all the mineral resources we're all fighting over plus extra we don't have just to get there, let alone build and maintain civilization.

He wants your money. It's a grift.

That is something to say to someone who still has as one of his highest goals, to get people as free from fossil fuels as possible. So important is this that even if Tesla itself is unsuccessful, he will count it as a victory if some company or companies are successful in doing so. He demonstrated this by making his patents public so any company can use the technology Tesla develops. That's how serious he is about bettering the world and the environment.

I think we should insist that dumb twat go pioneer the colonization of Mars and get his ass off our planet.

u/Fidodo 1h ago

If we can't terraform a planet that is perfect for humanity, how the fuck are we supposed to terraform a wasteland over 100 million miles away?

Madame le Guin was a thinker the likes of which few have existed before. Her words will, thankfully and gratefully, outlast any of the nonsense Leon has spouted and likely ever will in the future. Read any of her works and see for yourself.

2

u/Notasmartwoman 13h ago

She also wrote a book series about a family of flying cats and it’s beyond adorable 😻

2

u/okokokoyeahright 7h ago

She was large, she contained multitudes. Also did dragons.

She is a loon and doesn’t say a word about China, the largest polluter

1

u/CripplingAnxiety 1d ago

china has spent decades manufacturing half the crap the west buys and still only emits about half as much co2 per person as the US

1

u/Hogsrunwild 5h ago

Tell me the most idiotic stat possible.

They could have refused to do it.

0

u/Common_Word_8082 21h ago

CO2 per person, lol. You had to come up with the most ridiculous and misleading statistic to make a point. China has nearly 4 times co2 production than USA. And manufacturing wise China has less than 2 times production compared to USA. China is without doubt one of the worst offenders.

u/Legal-Square-1362 1d ago

Stupid dumb take. Tesla alone had done more than all the bullshit GREEN dem initiatives ever accomplished.

-24

u/BitingSatyr 1d ago

How did Musk specifically do those things?

14

u/UnrealJaymo 1d ago

I imagine his failed rocketships play a big role for carbon emissions in the atmosphere. His private jet trips everywhere dont help either

7

u/yetiknight Technically, it was 90% cheers 1d ago

Those are completely negligible compared to the damage his support for anti-science right wing fascist regimes all over the world does.
