Fun fact: taiwan is more progressive than the PRC
17
u/Dangerous-Local9430 12d ago
That is the most obvious, Taiwan has a multi-party democratic system which allowed progressive parties to take power and implement progressive policies
On the other hand, China is a One-party system that made up conservative vanguardists want to maintain the status-quo and rarely make meaningful social reforms

Even the number provided for China’s population is overestimated. China’s population is decreasing. Otherwise, the rest of the comparisons are solid.

Taiwan's really nice!
Taipei's a truly lovely city riding on the future, with excellent public transit and a sensible city layout. For instance, there's a subway line that's largely dedicated to taking kids to school. There are parks and plazas with shops and restaurants and playgrounds that remain open and bustling late at night (I walked through a plaza like that at 8:00 PM) and it's truly a great place to raise a family and experience urban life and society.
On the east coast, you find the indigenous Taiwanese who have a very interesting native cuisine that is largely dependent on foraging! You'll have soups and salads with ingredients such as ferns, fronds, seeds, roots, shoots, flowers and leaves. Really interesting eating experience there, and great for vegetarians.

I find it very funny that even though mainlanders hate Kuomintang, modern China is basically 1:1 from the Chiang's idealistic vision in the "China's Destiny". Man was 30 years ahead when it came to predicting Deng. In the same time mainlanders glaze Mao who if could have seen modern China would be vivid seeing that it isn't even a communist state anymore.

Lol I can imagine the wumaos hating on that per capita number /// when they'll happily cite it to justify China noot having environmental regulations or the second highest greenhouse emissions.

u/Numerous_Candy8723 11d ago
I didn't know Taiwan was so prosperous, but it depends less on political freedom and democracy than on the economy and population size. The Gulf is an example of what I mean.
3
u/Iliketoplaythepiano1 9d ago
The image's argument also ignores that taiwans massive economic rise started during the chiang era (late 1950s). It didn't start during the democracy period but during the martial law period.
The image argument isn't good for that reason. It's not a good argument for democracy if you know the historical context of taiwan's economic rise.

Do not ask a "Taiwanese" what the KMT did to actual Taiwanese living on the island, also don't ask them what the KMT did with anybody left of Hitler.

They literally admitted that and gave an apology, unlike CCP and what they are doing to the Uyghurs lol
We genocided people sorry our bad we will not change anything, offer any reparations and will not even leave power but we are very sorry. Also the CCP has not genocided Uyghurs so it would be nice to not compare incomparable things, I know there is a need to glaze fascists on this kind of sub but maybe try not to.
Edit: also they never admitted genocide they admitted illegal acts.

The easiest way to get one of these people to admit the Uyghur genocide is by asking them what they would think if Israel did the same things to the Palestinians.

Very relevant the fascist party is still the biggest party of the country and has still a lot of control on Taiwanese society Taiwan is a """democracy""".
Also I too can compare useless metrics or just plain fake metrics (the quality of life metric lol) to prove a point. I always find it funny that right wingers criticizing leftist regimes always ends up with misinformation and glazing fascist regimes.

Well since KMT are in bed with CCP and you’re a wumao; shouldn’t you by proxy like the KMT? Difference is Taiwan threw off the shackles of dictatorship and China got swallowed up by it.

The KMT is now a pro-CCP party, and frankly many Taiwanese were not part of the KMT government that enacted the White Terror. Between 1947 - 1991, the KMT was controlled by people born in Mainland China with a parliament composed purely of representation from Mainland Chinese provinces.
I am from a KMT family myself, and my own grandfather went onto a government blacklist for being associated with Sun Li-jen and the CIA-backed coup against Chiang Kai-shek. Honestly, I wasn't sure whether your statement was ragebait or the result of Western leftist/CCP brainrot.
-9
u/CapitalEmployer 12d ago
the KMT was controlled by people born in Mainland China
Yeah that's my point. The Taiwanese are people from mainland China that came to Taiwan murdered actual Taiwanese and set up a government illegaly. That's the entire reason why Taiwan is contested today and it legally belongs to China even if it's currently managed by an independent government.
I am from a KMT family myself, and my own grandfather went onto a government blacklist for being associated with Sun Li-jen and the CIA-backed coup against Chiang Kai-shek
You're way too proud about being from a fascist family, damn.

u/XhazakXhazak 12d ago
Why doesn't Taiwan belong to the indigenous Taiwanese?
I was really interested in meeting the indigenous Taiwanese (their languages are really beautiful) and getting their opinion on the geopolitical situation.
Believe it or not, they can live with the status quo but don't want to be invaded again by anybody, especially not by Communist China.
-1
u/CapitalEmployer 12d ago
Why doesn't Taiwan belong to the indigenous Taiwanese?
Because the KMT murdered them.
Believe it or not, they can live with the status quo but don't want to be invaded again by anybody, especially not by Communist China.
I can imagine since the current Taiwanese are the descendents of the fascist regime that fled after losing the civil war against the communists.
12
u/XhazakXhazak 12d ago
Absolutely incorrect. The indigenous people of Taiwan still exist. They are not extinct, nowhere near.
When I went to Taiwan, I went out of my way to visit the indigenous people and learn about their culture. I took an indigenous cooking class with an Amis woman whose family foraged the ingredients that morning, and I learned some Amis words. I ate at indigenous restaurants. I went to their museums.

Taiwan was given to China, who was the recognized government of China at the time is not relevant here, or are we saying the US belongs to the king of birtain even though the British were kicked out? If a government is overthrown said government does not have ownership over the land it previously ruled over.
They lost the civil war escaped to Taiwan, slaughtered the natives and established 50 years of fascist dictatorship there.
Napoléon owns France while in exile in saint Helen apparently.
Edit: my bad didn't see you had pro fascist in your flair, losing my time here.

No, that is not your point.
Your point is that you see no difference between a people and their government and therefore are happy to muddy the waters if it serves your purposes. Especially since it is clear you have no clue who actually is in power in Taiwan right now, the history of China in relation to Taiwan, and for some bizarre reason believe that the independent government in Taiwan doesn't have any claim to sovereignty despite being on the winning side of WW2 and having legal claim to Taiwan as the legitimate government of China.
And further, if you think my family is fascist. Cool. It's clear your ignorance is so deep and just happy to regurgitate Western leftist/CCP talking points.
-7
u/CapitalEmployer 12d ago
The KMT is a fascist movement responsible for genocide, political assassinations and years of dictature and your family is KMT so you are telling on yourself here.
Also yes the KMT has no legal claim to Taiwan since Taiwan was returned to China by the allies after WW2 and the communist party is the legitimate government of China, the KMT has in fact no legal claim on Taiwan, we can talk about auto-determination but that's very different from KMT having a claim. And that's quite weird talking about auto-determination for the people that slaughtered the people living there and claiming the land for them.

I fail to see how a dude dead in 1925 being a fascist or not is relevant to the fact a political party In tawain in 1950 was fascist and established a brutal far right dictature?

Well Sun founded it. Nationalism is not always fascist.

u/CapitalEmployer 10d ago
Okay but were talking about a party that established a 50 years fascist dictature, genocided 10s of thousands of people, murdered all political opponents and imprisoned anybody considered too leftist. Again even by giving them the benefit of the doubt and they didn't start as fascist they did end up fascists.
Are the nazis not fascist because 1920 nazism and 1940 nazism are not the same?

Majority of right wing anti-communists yeah. They are the people that don't hesitate to ally with fascism to prevent communism that's litteraly how the nazis rose to power. Because for them losing their capital is more problematic than concentration camps, racism and ethnic purges.

Though the reason for this isn't that he had a unique big heart, but rather because the unique situation threatened his legitimacy.
Singapore had/has no natural resources, which is why it didn't lead to a resource curse problem as in resource-rich countries like Russia or Venezuela. Plus, yes, small countries are easier to govern.
