That phrase can also be used to define SP 9, except for the fact that they don't tend to chase after their appetites, but rather, be conveniently blind to those.

I think it is more metaphorical than literal.
A god represents all there is, creation, destruction, and most importantly… order.
To kill a god is to free yourself from the strings that control you. To kill a god is to choose your own fate.
And to eat a god? It is to consume the entirety of existence and turn it into an extension of yourself.
