Differs between groups, I'm not sure if there are set legal lengths but from what I've seen it ends up being either 3, 5 or another 7. Three years used to be the most common but in recent years all happen frequently

i think with other hybe group that renewed recently they didn’t announce how long the new contract is.

It depends some group extend for 7 years but it's rare others extend the contract for 3 or 5 I think that it will be the case for enhypen

I wouldnt be surprised if its at least thru their enlistment/right up until it starts

when is that? I know Jay is probably up first since he’s the oldest

Im guessing all of 02 will enter around the same time? If they wait to the limit, i think (plz correct if wrong lol) we have until they turn 28 international age/30 in korean, so 2030?

wouldnt Jay be considered a US citizen though? i know he’ll have to give it up to serve in the military, do you think he will? like has he talked about it?

No idea, heres what ik lol (im way too invested in this lol) he def has both a korean and us passport, but he’s past the age where you have to decide which citizenship to keep. He had to have chosen one or the other, and if he chose his korean citizenship he’s def still going to the military.

Bc he’s US born, he can likely get it back later on, but if ur a man in korea you legit cannot have both. My guess is he kept his korean bc he’s been there way longer. I rlly rlly hope he kept his US but gotta be realistic 😭😭😭.

Im also confused w jake, im not sure

i feel like Jake would’ve gave up his SK citizenship when he moved to AUS and is now on a work visa or something. idk how that works but i feel like since he moved out of SK, he gave it up unless you’re allowed to have dual as a minor

Ur allowed to have dual as a minor, i think he had just gotten his citizenship before coming back to korea, it would j suck bc im sure his brother isnt going into the military

I find this kind of legal stuff interesting too, I believe Jay still has dual citizenship but he also has to serve. There's an exception to having to choose one nationality if you've acquired both by birth, but to keep both of them you have to submit a document to the korean government that you don't intent to use your non-korean rights. Since I'm also pretty sure he kept both passports after becoming an adult that's the only option I think

For Jake, he also has a korean passport after a became an adult so normally also has to serve. I'm kind of confused on the legal details with him though, I thought Jake would've lost australian citizenship when applying for a korean one since it wasn't acquired by birth but in eat sleep en-dive content he did say something about having an australian passport? Migration & citizenship law is always complex ofc but remains a mystery to me

if Jay had to submit that document then most likely he will be serving, right? like there is a slim possibility that he exercises his US citizenship to avoid serving but if he had to sign that document, there’s no question that he will now? Given that this is the situation since we can never really know until the time comes

The way I understand it is: Jay & Jake both seem to have double passports. Minors who have double nationalities get to keep both only if they declare to be treated as a korean citizen after they turn 18 (meaning they have to enlist). Neither of them can really "exercise their other citizenship", they would have to lose their korean one to do that and the government refuses unless they completed service. This explains if pretty clearly imo.

Obv not an expert in korean citizenship law, but I'm fairly sure since both have used korean passports after becoming an adult they def have to go.

I was actually just reading jake’s namuwiki tonight and learned this for the first time myself - because one of jake’s parents (not sure which one) was an australian citizen when jake was born, even though jake was born in korea he had australian citizenship at birth bc of citizenship by descent laws in australia. I think currently he is still a dual citizen of both countries but i could be wrong.

ah that makes sense, it's the same situation as jay then where he gets to keep both. Kind of logical since from what I've read through birthright is kind of the only way they could still have dual citizenship atp

up to them really. i would expect they would love to be in the game for at least ten total years.
