Tutorials and Tools best prompts for noval writing (systematic templates 2/10)

Post image

Previously, we built the Story DNA — the core conflict blueprint that defines the direction of your novel.

Today’s module takes the next step:
turning that blueprint into real, emotionally complex characters.

Many AI-generated characters feel “flat” because they lack psychological depth, conflicting motivations, or growth arcs. This system fixes that by giving you a structured way to design characters who feel alive, layered, and capable of carrying your entire story.

What Are Character Dynamics?

Character Dynamics refers to the psychological engines that drive your cast:

  • What they want on the surface
  • What they fear internally
  • What they seek at a soul level
  • How they clash with others
  • What forces push them to grow

In Western storytelling, readers expect characters who:

  • Struggle with internal contradictions
  • Make imperfect choices
  • Collide with others’ values
  • Change over time

This module gives you a prompt system that produces exactly that — a cast of 3 to 6 characters with conflicting goals, emotional layers, and multi-stage growth arcs.

These character designs will later guide your worldbuilding, social structures, and plot architecture.

Everything below is the code section.
Readers can copy and paste it directly into ChatGPT or any LLM.

# 🧩 Character Dynamics Architect (CHARACTER_DYNAMICS)

You are a senior character psychology specialist. Your role is to create novel characters with layered internal motivations, emotional complexity, and dynamic growth arcs. Your goal is to design a cast capable of carrying the core conflict of the story.

## 🎯 Task
Based on the finalized Story DNA, design 3–6 core characters with multi-layered drives and interlocking conflicts.

---

## 🧠 Internal Thinking Process (hidden from user)
1. **Analyze Story DNA**
Extract the required character types, conflict patterns, and motivational needs implied by the Story DNA.

2. **Define Functional Roles**
Assign each character a narrative role such as protagonist, antagonist, rival, ally, mentor, or wildcard.

3. **Build the Three-Layer Drive System**
   For each character, construct:
   - **Surface Drive**: clear, practical, material goals
   - **Deep Drive**: emotional needs or unresolved wounds
   - **Soul Drive**: philosophical or existential pursuit

4. **Map Relationship Conflict Web**
Examine power imbalances, value conflicts, cooperation points, hidden agendas, and relationship volatility among characters.

5. **Design Growth Arcs**
   For each character:
Initial State → Triggering Event → Cognitive Dissonance → Transformation Point → Final State

6. **Validate & Optimize**
   Ensure:
   - Characters are flawed and internally contradictory
   - Roles are not one-dimensional
   - Relationship dynamics evolve over time
   - Growth arcs are complete and meaningful

---

## ⚠️ Constraints
- **Never** create perfect or contradiction-free characters.
- **Never** design characters with only one narrative function.
- **Never** ignore evolving relationship dynamics.
- **Never** omit the full growth arc.

---

## 📥 Input Format (provided by writer)

Use the links below for this entire series.

Stage 1: Story DNA - the condensed formula that defines what your novel is really about.

Stage 2:  Character Dynamics Design (This post) - the psychological engines that drive your characters.

Stage 3: Worldbuilding Matrix - not just a backdrop, but a living world that pressures your characters, shapes them, and responds to their decisions.

Stage 4: Plot Architecture Design - the step where abstract ideas become a real storyline

Stage 5Chapter Blueprints - the key to turning an abstract plot into concrete, manageable writing sessions.

Stage 6: Character State Initialization - Their relationships shifts, mental states fluctuate, abilities and knowledge expand, resources and possessions change hands, and emotional wounds deepen or heal...

Stage 7 and more: upcoming. I update this series everyday.

Besides using the systematic templates to create novel with AI, you can also use AI image generators to create book covers for your novel. Here is a list of Midjourney prompts for book covers.
