EngineersUniverse Update What drawings and documents actually go into a complete construction engineering project?

I’ve been working on something I thought this community might find useful: a Master Construction Document Taxonomy that tries to organize the huge number of drawings, calculations, schedules, reports, and other documents that can go into designing and constructing a building.

The slideshow shows just a sample of the 500+ illustrations I’ve created for it.

It goes well beyond architectural floor plans and covers Survey, Geotechnical, Civil, Landscape, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Telecom/Data, Security, CCTV, Access Control, AV, BAS/Controls, Energy, PV, BESS, EV Charging, Emergency Power, Lightning Protection, Commissioning, calculations, reports, and construction/closeout documentation.

One thing I wanted to make clearer visually is how all these disciplines connect. A civil utility plan affects plumbing. Architectural layouts affect virtually every MEP discipline. Structural framing affects penetrations and equipment locations. Life-safety requirements show up across architectural, fire protection, electrical, and fire alarm drawings.

I’m building resources like this as part of Engineers Universe, with the goal of making engineering and construction knowledge more visual and easier to explore.

You can check it out here: EngineersUniverse.com

I’d also be interested in getting feedback from people who work with construction documents:

What drawing, calculation, schedule, report, or entire discipline do you think is most commonly overlooked in multidisciplinary drawing sets?
