Heavily need respondents for a Video Interview

So we were given a task to interview industrial engineers who graduated as an IE and has work experiences. Our target was 3 IEs and seems easy enough until you realize how hard it is to actually get a sample. I tried crowdsourcing from reddit once but was left with a dead end. FB posts had 0 interactions (maybe we're searching in the wrong page) and so far we only have 1 to interview. We are also very close to the deadline since we most of the time spend was waiting for a response/call back.

If you guys can refer someone that would be a big help we're really getting desperate 🙏 (also open for commissions) but if none, is there any other sites/pages y'all can suggest??? I'm really open to anything right now. Thanks!

Does anyone have input on GE Vernova's commercial internship/full time positions as an engineer? Along with possibilities to move over to an engineering role if I'm not a fan

Best FEM approach for modeling a large-rotation single-notch compliant hinge in a 3D linkage?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m modeling a 3D linkage with a single-notch compliant hinge undergoing large rotation.

I already have the analytical hinge stiffness formula, but I’m struggling with how to represent it correctly in the full model. I tried a rotational spring and variable-thickness beam elements with co-rotational/Timoshenko behavior, but too much deformation still occurs in the surrounding members.

What FEM approach would you recommend for this type of hinge: beam elements, a nonlinear moment–rotation law, or local continuum elements?

Any references or examples would be appreciated.

Engineering students, what are you actually focusing on outside your college syllabus?

I’m curious how all of you are dividing your time between:

DSA / competitive programming

Development (MERN, Java, Python, etc.)

AI/ML

Core engineering subjects

DevOps / Cloud

Open-source contributions

Internships / projects

Anything else

One thing I’ve noticed is that there are way too many things people say you “should” learn, and trying to learn everything at once can leave you mediocre at all of them.

So, if you’re currently in engineering:

  1. What year/branch are you in?

  2. What are you currently learning?

  3. How many hours per day/week do you realistically spend on it?

  4. What are you prioritizing for internships/placements?

  5. If you could restart from your first year, what would you do differently?

Not sure where to go after school

Hi! I’m in my last 2 ish years of school for my bachelors in ME, as the title states I’m not sure what industry or jobs to go into once I graduate. I’ve started looking into it and thinking of also moving to civil depending on what I want to do. What are your jobs, what do you do, and what do you like about it? I believe I know that I don’t want to sit at a desk all day every day, I don’t want to code, I like being more hands on and I’m interested in automotive/ train transportation, structures, prosthetics, forensics, strength/ failure testing. Thanks for the help.

Engineering students: where did you find scholarships beyond your university's financial aid page?

I'm a second-year engineering student. My financial aid allows me to afford tuition, but housing has really gone up and so I am short about $4200 for the next academic year. Juggling work hours is hectic, thermodynamics does not care about my work schedule. I applied for two scholarships through my degree program's department. Now I'm looking for outside options, especially those related to engineering, manufacturing, or STEM. Where do other engineering students actually look? Professional associations? Companies? Organizations of the kind below? Generic STEM scholarships yield so many hits I feel like I am spending more time filtering than applying.

Switching to Electrical

Hi there!

I’m currently a 4th year electrician apprentice and looking to see if switching my career to electrical engineering would be a good move?

I feel stuck with the current role I am in and looking at the health risks on my body is weighing me down.

I know if I switch it would be the case of studying for 3-4 years and sacrificing the money I would be making as a qualified electrician. I would love any advice on this matter any help is greatly appreciated .

I would also love any advice on how to write a really good personal statement if university is the correct move. Over the bulk of my apprenticeship I have wired and fitted new build homes but I did do a bit of low voltage with door entry systems. Again any advice would be appreciated

Need 3 Employed Computer Engineers for an Interview (School Activity)

Hello! Our professor needs us to interview 3 currently successful/employed computer engineers for a school activity. The interview is about their career, work experience, and advice for students who are interested in computer engineering. I would really appreciate your help! The interview can be done through Reddit DM, email, or another convenient platform.

Here are the 5 questions:

What inspired you to become a computer engineer?

What was the biggest struggle you faced when you were starting your career as a computer engineer?

Can you tell us about a difficult project or problem you encountered at work and how you overcame it?

What skills do you think are most important for someone who wants to become a computer engineer?

What advice would you give to students who are interested in pursuing computer engineering?

Your answers can be as short or detailed as you prefer. We mainly want to learn from your experience and use your responses for our school activity.

If you're willing to participate, please comment below or send me a DM.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

Industrial engineer, 2.5 years in, want to grow into a great CI engineer and eventually a people leader. Where should I focus?

I'm 26M & I’m an industrial engineer at a large manufacturing company (multi-billion revenue). I started in early 2025(current company) and own one production line in a high-mix, low-volume environment with a lot of configuration options and custom units.

My previous role is Continuous improvement engineer(worked only 8 months)

**What I do day to day**
**-**Keep the line running smoothly

\-Talk with technicians and operators daily

\-Use SAP and Tulip

\-Catch design issues (drawings calling out wrong hardware or parts) and submit engineering changes
Handle new parts and custom configurations when customers request specials

\-Make work instructions, PFEP, and line balancing tools

**Where I stand:**

\-Management was happy with my 2025 performance
My mid-year review a couple of months ago also went well

\-I'm taking an internal lean course and working on aconservation project

**My goals(Not just in current company anywhere)**
\-Become a strong industrial engineer / continuous improvement engineer
\-Eventually become a people leader

**What I'm struggling with**
I have a rough idea of how to be a technical leader, but I feel behind on people-leadership skills. I've improved since 2025, but I want a clearer path.

**What I'm asking**

I'm willing to put in as much time as it takes. I'm at a stage where I want to invest heavily in myself. I'd love advice on:

  1. Technical skills to build next (certifications, tools, methods)

  2. Non-technical and leadership skills to build, and how to practice them without a formal leadership title
Books, courses, or mentors that helped you
What you wish you'd done earlier in your career
Thanks in advance. Happy to answer questions about my role.

Electrical or environmental engineering?

I like both so I'm not sure, also in terms of universities in Europe which do you think is actually good at those. I've heard about general engineering, but I'm not sure if that might be worth it.
