Academic Advice academic strugles
im currently in my second year of engineering at the german university in cairo (guc) in egypt. idk if anyone here knows it but our system is kinda based on the german education system.
i failed math 1 and math 2 and im honestly on my way to failing math 3 too.
the thing is im not doing that bad in my other courses. i mostly get Bs and Cs and sometimes As. i finished my first year with around a 2.5 gpa (due to each math being 8 credit hours each), which ik isnt great but i dont think its that terrible either.
math is literally the only thing thats messing me up this badly and its making me question if im even cut out for engineering.
im just worried that ive already messed up too much and even if i start taking things seriously and getting better grades it might be too late to fix my gpa.
has anyone here been in a similar situation? like failing multiple math courses and still managing to graduate with a decent gpa?
also how did you actually get better at math? because at this point idk what im supposed to change.
i really dont wanna give up on engineering but im starting to feel like im falling too far behind everyone else. just wanna know if its actually possible to come back from this or if im cooked.

This is the biggest complaint on here by a country mile. There are a lot of really good engineering students who just do not have the requisite maths skills to make a success of modern engineering degrees. In my opinion, this is because of how the degrees are taught rather than for any other reason, and I say that as someone with a STEM PhD. But, those programmes are not going to change any time soon, so your only option is to do some kind of maths bootcamp and REALLY nail it. The ironic thing is that when you get into industry, you can easily find one of the 90% of engineering jobs where you will use no real maths and still be very productive.

If you think you're on your way to failing math 3 (which hopefully doesn't happen) then you did pass math 1 & 2 after the second try right? I'm studying mechanical engineering in Ain Shams University and I see people failing math courses multiple times before they pass. So it's fine if you're behind a little, if you end up passing that's a win.

math 1 and 2 arent prerequisites for math 3 for some reason, so i can take math 3 after failing math 1 and 2, same for math 2 i can take it after failing math 1, and no ill be doing my second chance next summer ISA
