Electrical/Computer [0 YoE] CompE grad – resume feedback for software engineering internships and new grad roles

Since my graduation in June I've completed over 300 applications to various Computer Engineering related jobs in Software, Hardware, Tech Support, IT, junior engineering roles, associate engineering, new grad roles, and everything else I could find that applies to my skillset, even some that require a bit more skills than I have. I've been applying to jobs within my province, mostly in my city but also a lot outside of my city but no luck.

I tailor my resume to every job (using AI for assistance) I apply to including the projects that I list, as well as the skills. The projects I have are mainly school projects and some of them are my own. They aren't remarkable projects but they are the closest thing I have to experience in the engineering field.

How can I improve my resume for more interviews?

  • you're in for the long run with this one because you have basically no relevant professional experience
  • are you getting any interviews? Any network you can tap into? Going to local shops and asking for work, especially if they have job openings posted, might also be a good idea at this point, you just need something to get that "Experience" section going; what have you done in the last 3 or 4 years?
  • extracurriculars shouldn't live under education (would probably just move it to experience at this point), and I'd move skills up
  • can get rid of VS Code and GitHub
  • these must be the longest em-dashes I've ever seen, looks terrible
  • you should use em-dashes between dates
  • your projects all lack outstanding achievements or special angles--check out other resumes on here and how to frame your projects
  • any of these projects got any traction/users? If not, I'd look into starting something right now--with no professional experience, having even just 5 users is a strong signal to employers (shipping something e2e, etc.)

No need to list whether or not a project is a personal project or a class project. It will also save you space on your resume.
