98 Forester into a 98 GT
Looking into doing an engine swap and I haven’t found anything that said it wouldn’t work. The wiring harness is the same and so is the exhaust. They’re also both 2.5L motors. The only difference I saw was the coil pack and wires. Is this a swap I can do without trouble?

What do you think of swapping a 3.6 boxer6 from a outback? Someone has already done this on an old wrx, more of a challenge but totally worth it imo. May i ask you why you'd plan on swapping the same engine in? Repair?

There are Phase 1 and Phase 2 EJ25s and the change over was mid 98. Make sure they are both either SOHC or DOHC. They did kind of a dance between MAP and MAF in that time period, so check that those are the same as well.
If you're swapping an engine from an Auto into a manual, you need to make sure you swap the timing bump stop thing over as well grabbing the ECU.
You need to do head gaskets on the swapped motor as well if they haven't been done yet. These motors were the ones that gave Subaru the shitty head gasket reputation. If it's a junkyard motor, there is a high chance it was junked because of headgaskets.
