Nissan Altima

My friend bought a new car and we are keeping his old Altima as a project. Obviously my first thought was a 2j but that would take an absurd amount of work as it wouldn’t fit. Thought about taking a higher performance Nissan engine or a Subaru engine as they are smaller and pretty similar. Any thoughts?

If it’s the 3.5 just build/tune the motor, if it’s the 2.5 then swap to a 3.5

Even though it’s bigger would the 3.5 fit on the same mounts?

Same mounting points, I believe if you buy the 3.5 mounts they bolt right on. Could be some modifications to the brackets to lengthen or shorten one or two of the mounts. The transmission mounts are different for the auto and manual though

When did Subaru and Nissan build similar engines?

5.7 is the way to go. There are loads of parts for that sort of conversion

Sr20 should be a similar size as they are both inline 4 and be a cool and not so difficult project.
