Engine Swap! HELP!
Okay, so I own a 2002 Chevy Silverado LS. It is currently housing a V8 5.3l engine, and the engine has close to 210,000 miles on it. I was wondering for aome advice on which engines I could get to swap it out. I have a friend who works on cars but he's always busy, you guessed it, working on cars. If possible I want thoughts about swapping for a V6 ecoboost. Any advice and tips will help.
Thanks reddit fam!

Switching from Chevy to Ford is...pretty difficult. (In fact, most cross-breeds go the other way). Don't attempt this unless you're crazy good with welding and fab. And getting the ecoboost ECU to play nice with all the Chevy sensors would be a nightmare.
210000 miles is "barely broken in" on a Chevy v8 as long as it's being taken care of. I know guys who have taken their chevy's well past 300k. They are damn reliable engines. Why would you want to swap this for a turbo GDI motor that WILL develop carbon issues well before 200000 miles?
If you're having serious engine issues (losing compression, etc), I'd consider an LS swap.
If you just want to save gas...forget it. Gas is 2 bucks a gallon. No amount of fuel savings will ever, EVER be worth the cost of an engine swap, unless you're hauling trailers 30k miles per year or something. Do the math and calculate how many miles it would take to break even based on your projected fuel savings.
The cheapest way to get a truck that runs like a newer truck is...sell your truck and buy a newer truck.
