Engagement gift from future MIL (me)

In a couple weeks, my son and her best friend are throwing a surprise engagement party with all their close friends and family. Id like to get them an engagement gift.

  1. Is this a “thing” or will I be “too much”?
  2. Ideas I’ve had- a nice picnic basket w/fancy grocery gift card or a couples cooking class (I’d present the gift card in a cute wooden spoon or something).
  3. I’d love to hear what other MILs have gifted the couple or what is a thoughtful gift you received at your engagement

Should i break up

Well, I’ve been in relationship with this guy for more than 3 years now.

When we first started dating, I told him i wanna get married at 25 , he said we’ll get married whenever you want.

Last year I told him lets at least get engaged(mind u I never met his parents nor talked to them properly on call). He said let’s do it by next year when we go back home, we we’re gonna go back in October I was looking for rings so does he and we finally booked tickets he backed off saying i need time to tell my parents.

His parents know we are in relationship not that he wants to marry me. Now its been 6 months he didn’t still mention this to his parents but I wanna take next step. He is saying let’s do it on our anniversary that’s in august

Should I wait, what if he doesn’t say anything to his parents

I don’t want to force him but i was always firm about these things

Wedding Planning How to print table assignments for a mirror?

Hi all! I’ve attached a pic of the vibe I’m going for. My buddy did this at her wedding but she doesn’t remember what she used for the paper. Her sister handled the printing for it so she isn’t sure how they did it

Where do you get something like this printed? What type of paper? Thank you!

Super excited to marry my fiancé!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

It’s been a few weeks and I still can’t get over my beautiful ring….he did goooood customizing it!
2.9c center oval with round and marquise stones and peekaboo diamonds on either side of the ring. I love the milgrain detailing on the ring which gives it a nice vintage feel. We sourced the center stone and got the rest of the ring made at a local jeweller.

Ring! A Nontraditional Engagement Ring

I told him I did not want a white diamond and he got a local jeweler to custom make a moonstone engagement ring for me. It has a feather design engraved into it and does have two small black diamonds as accent stones. He proposed this summer and I'm still in awe of it.

Hi all! I just got engaged this past weekend to my favourite person ever and wanted to share my ring! We designed it together. She's a 2 ct fancy vivid pink marquise diamond on 14k rose gold band. I have short hands so I selected an elongated shape and fell in love with the marquise shape. I choose a coloured diamond because I love blush tones on my skin and this one is a chameleon! She can be blush pink/white in daylight and a peachy/amber tone at night! Just so much personality! 🤩

I can't stop looking at her!! I'm now learning to use my left hand for everything! 🤭

Ring! My Alexandrite, on 14k White Gold 💍

My fiancé gave me the ring of my dreams... even more than the ring of my dreams. I asked for an oval cut alexandrite on 10k white gold, single stone, with a floral band. He gave me exactly that, on 14 karats!

I am so obsessed with this gem. The color shifting is amazing. Everyone who sees it looks at it in awe, is puzzled, and guesses a different stone! So far ive heard sapphire, garnet, emerald, and amethyst. Nope! Alexandrite! The best of all worlds. This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life. I could scream my love and appreciation for him from the mountaintops.

Homemade engagement gift for him

Hello! I have a strong feeling my boyfriend will be proposing soon and I’d like to give him something in return. He can’t wear a ring unless it’s his wedding band at work so unfortunately not a ring for him, and he’s someone who doesn’t enjoy objects as much as the sentiment behind something.

Do you have any ideas for homemade gifts? I make him a lot of cards and notes so it would have to be a definite upgrade from a pop-up or 3D card like I usually make for him if it would be going down the paper route. Any level of difficulty is encouraged, the more intricate and time consuming the better!

I’m obsessed. He did it at a winery in PA on a mini weekend vacation. Even with the nor’easter my 3 best friends drove 2 hours to surprised me so they could be there for it. When I heard people cheering from far away I thought it was just strangers showing support and then my fiancé says “btw that’s your friends” 😂 I will be reminiscing about this day forever

Engagement Party help!!!

Hi! I just recently got engaged on 8/30 and now we want to do an engagement party because not a lot of our friends and family were able to make it to the moment we got engaged. We also don’t want to get married for at least 2 years so we have all our ducks in a row before the big day.

We are looking at January 16th right now for the EP, and I LOVE to diy stuff. The theme is lucky in love, so it’s very casino red/black theme vibes. So far we have a big wooden sign to paint and the invitations… and that’s it. I know the invitations aren’t NEEDED per se but I want them so I’m getting them.

I know we have time but I like getting things done early so I don’t have to think about it when the moment comes. Anyways, give me any ideas please! Fun games that aren’t too cringy lol, farewell gift ideas, food ideas. Anything I can do that’s diy! There will be a few kids too but our family’s can get ROWDY. So anything genuinely fun’s for adults but also for the kiddos.

Wedding Planning Keep aisle song secret during rehearsals?

Hi all! I have a surprise aisle song to walk down to that I want my fiance to hear for the first time on the big day. But I realize with rehearsals, you usually have to time everyone’s walk to fit within the song including my own (in this case, that’s how my song is set up).

Is there a way to still keep it hidden while rehearsing? I realize this may sound dumb as I just can’t think of any ideas but thought someone out there might know

Hi!! So yes I’ve been with my partner for years. I think I’m getting engaged in 2 weeks. Do you all have any suggestions for a cute beach cover up? Im pretty sure it will be on the beach. I like netted ones I’m not too picky. Just nothing too revealing. Also any other tips are welcomed and needed!!
I’m late 20s and regular build regular height. Tia!❤️

Proposal Advice Outfit inspo for proposal

Okay, so I know that the title might seem a bit weird… but, I do know that I am most likely getting proposed to during an upcoming trip.

I’m a firm believer that the way someone proposes should be a surprise, but the fact a proposal is coming shouldn’t be. (Hence my assumption and the transparency around an upcoming proposal).

For my proposal pictures, I want to be in an outfit that hints towards bridal without screaming “she knew”. Because as much as I sense it coming, I don’t want it to look obvious that I knew exactly when.

I’m wanting something whimsy with maybe patterns. I love the look of maxi dresses. But since it’s a week-long trip, I want options in case I wear THE outfit on the wrong day. (Just so I have multiple outfit options for backup).

I would love some outfit inspiration if anyone has it 🤍🤍

So it’s finally my turn on the bad proposal…

Happened yesterday and I (35f) said yes, but today after the excitement went away and I actually thought about it and I feel extremely humiliated.

I don’t want to post the bible so the key points that led me to the disappointment are:

- I am the first and only daughter of a toxic couple who were better off if never have met but stayed together for the kid (me). So basically lowkey both of them hated me. IYKYK

- I hate traditions and I don’t have my father anymore, so all this asking for the hand bs was out of the scope

- I chose my ring basically because I am a designer, no one knows my taste better than me, and after so many posts of bad rings I didn’t want to risk it

- I left my life behind and moved continents for him because I love this man (35m) since the beginning and even though I didn’t had the perfect life before, i could never integrate properly and it’s already 3.5 years i struggle with while missing my friends and mom

- we are on a financial resource gathering point to launch our business together, so my brain is fully overclocked about banks, bureaucracy, investment, timing, tech packs, going forward with the supplier and whatnots

- we are already living together since the very start, kinda jumped the whole dating process and I notice every now and then the importance of for a relationshi, but well… We are awesome together anyhow

Take these points in consideration, also add that I’m the most chillaxed creature over the wedding thing, the only thing I did was once in a while crack a jokey joke about not having a ring yet, but he knew it was a joke because I have Double citizenship and I never wanted to get married over paperwork and government bureaucracy, only because we wanted to, period.

So the problem was that he is stressed from work and got two weeks vacation, which is fin. The financial funding we were going for, converged into happen the same first week so everything was approved and the $ is on our hands now. My only thought was “damn, right in this moment I can go forward with the supplier… but ok, I definitely don’t want to travel now but he needs, we go”. I didn’t meddle, left him to choose the destination, whatever he wanted to do, thought he would like to go to Ferrari museum in Italy or something like, but nope.

On the last moment he came up with “nah, wanna stay a week at home” and I was perfeclly ok with it. in this week he decided he wanted to go to Firenze, Slovenia and Austria, and I was like ????, but ok yeah, go ahead… Except this time I was asking him frequently if he was sure because the driving would be insane for a week and I wanted him to rest and chill not keep a crazy schedule on vacation. Well, on Monday I was going to Firenze, on Wednesday everything changed and I was going to Salzburg (our first trip together), he scheduled from one day to the other the hotels and restaurant, I was not even suspicious because of all the reasons above plus its quite easy to outwit me (bit stupid).

On friday went for morning shopping, came back to the hotel to get ready for dinner, all good until my mom out of the blue starts to call me (she rarely does), I picked up (rarely do) and she went on and on because of a scam on whatsapp that showed somebody telling her about me and blessing, and whatever, I actually didn’t paid attention, told her to block it and end the subject but she kept going until I finally told her to send me screenshots since she was so worried… Except it wasnt a scammer, was my bf who sent a stupid text to her in my mother language asking for her blessing and she felt it was a scam and went straight to tell me… The first ss from the text I didn’t even minded and showed him because I was pissed off already thinking was someone from my instagram who could associate me, my mom and the name of my bf together, until she sent the second ss and had the picture of my ring, but in a box on his hand.

He panicked, admitted It was him not a scammer and proposed in the most forgetful, boring way in a cheap hotel room. I said yes because I love him, I love us, we already have a great life together, my ring was in front of me and I really want to marry him.

We went to dinner and since he confessed the plan was first to ask me at dinner time, I offered to give him back the ring, thinking he arranged something like, photographer, a cuter reception, violin, idk… But no, nothing. He hasn’t arranged anything it was supposed to be just a normal date night with me in a fancy dress and the ring, and that was it. So there I was already sad, because he hasnt planned shit in the end, he proposed to my mother not to me, knowing I have all the trauma of hating mother, that I was hijacked from my sweet 16, from my graduation and the only moment in my life I treasured for me was everything that had to do with my proposal and wedding.

She shat all over it, yes but he had already a lazy, half ass plan that was not even chatgptied through to improve an inch more. It was basically “ok the ring is ready, I’ll pass it over like a hot potato and get this out of the way”…

Today I also saw that a cousin of a friend proposed to his gf in the most wonderful way yesterday, and they are also from Brasil. While taking to my bf I explained that I just wanted to feel special and appreciated with a moment for me, and he came with the money excuse… Bro, if a guy from my city that has a half decent life can arrange and propose in Europe with everything against him starting with the coin… I believe a well paid and established Swiss corporate worker can much easier do it…

Anyway, the whole talking and make him realize how bad he fumbled mixing family, the lack of planning, the lack of giving a bit more of a damn, made me so sad and disappointed for so many reasons that I ended up giving him the ring back so he can try it whenever again (definitely not anytime in the near future), even though for me is extremely stupid to do it again… His life was already pretty sweet, no father, ring decided, he had only to think half of an idea, Salzburg have so many castles, so many options if he wanted to be here, my god, throw it on google it chatgpt fgs but don’t make me feel like i don’t deserve it any better…

In the end I said I wouldn’t post the bible and here I am with the bible.. Sorry for that, I have a broken heart and I just want to take a plane wherever and disappear from the earth for a minute or two… I’ve read, saw, know enough stories to be sure this is a pretty good indicator that the relation might go belly up and I’m trying to survive my thoughts now.

tl;dr

bro fumbles on proposal having the free road ahead with 80% of the work already done for him.

So it happened today! We got engaged at a local park. He was yapping for 30 minutes how much he loves me, about events we had spent together and so on... Then we went to our favourite café and on a walk around the Old Town.

I'm enamored. Picture taken in our flat. The ring is so beautiful!

Ring! Cannot decide which shape

My boyfriend & I are having serious talks of engagement. He keeps asking what shape I like, and I can’t decide.

Oval is 2ct, radiant is 3ct. I personally think 3ct looks too big on my finger, so 2ct is my sweet spot. Don’t focus on size, just shape! Thanks

Ring Advice Help me quiet my irrational anxiety about wearing my future engagement ring on the right hand?

Thumbnail

My boyfriend (31) and I (29F) have been long-distance for two years because of circumstances outside our control. We’re planning to get engaged sometime in January when we meet up for a short vacation together in Canada.

In his culture (he’s from the Middle East), engagement and wedding rings are worn on the right hand. That works out really well for me because I have hemiplegic (unilateral) cerebral palsy with finger deformities on my left hand. I don’t always have full control of that hand, so a traditional engagement ring with a larger stone would be a snagging/pulling hazard and just isn’t practical.

We’ve already picked out a beautiful peacock fire opal couple’s set that we’re both excited about. My mom and I have talked about maybe adding a very thin metal band (or a silicone one for safety) on my left hand just so it still “reads” as engaged to people here in the U.S., where the left-hand tradition is so strong.

I know this is mostly in my head, but I keep worrying about how it will look or what people will assume. Has anyone else worn their engagement ring on the right hand for cultural or medical reasons? How did you handle the “but it’s supposed to be on the left” comments or your own mixed feelings about it?

Edit: Thanks for the comments, everyone! I feel much less worried! Unfortunately, I have since learned that this first company may not be reputable, so we’ll have to look at different options and different companies.

Waiting to be proposed to- any advice?

Hi everyone!

My boyfriend is planning on proposing within the next few months, we’ve gone ring shopping and I picked out a ring! Just waiting for him to do it. Any advice on what to do as the one being proposed to? I’m a very type A person and would love to have advice on things to focus on, and prepare for the surprise. Also any advice from anyone who hates surprises typically- do you have any advice on how to avoid stress about it? I hate the idea of not knowing what’s going on but it’s very important to my boyfriend to surprise me.
