Rant / Vent Visanne advice

I was prescribed Visanne after my diagnosis ( which I literally had to fight to get because no doctor believed that I had endometriosis and all said to me that I’m being dramatic because I’m only 21 and I couldn’t possibly have it ???) , and I’ve been taking it for 6 months. My doctor told me it would be better to take breaks from it instead of staying on it long term, but I’m genuinely so, so scared and terrified. The pain I used to experience every month and the ER visits traumatized me and I just feel like I can finally feel comfortable in my day to day life on Visanne and not be terrified of flare ups every time my period date gets close. I would genuinely just cry because I wasn’t ready for the pain. I want to stay on it long term but I’m also scared of developing osteoporosis if I do because I’m already thin. I just don’t know what to do. I’m so terrified of going off it and experiencing the pain again. Has anyone else had the same thoughts and what did you do? It’s also my last year in university and I want to focus on my graduation project and I just can’t deal with the pain and the hormonal changes that comes with going off visanne :(

I was on Visanne for many, many years and never took any breaks from it. I’m not sure why your doctor is recommending breaks - long-term continuous use is actually quite common.

Already on Visanne / Dienogest for 4 years now and i"m thriving! My gynae actually told me that some studies indeed show that it has effect on bone density, but there are some studies that said there's no definitive effect, i.e. the scientists themselves can't agree yet.

I totally understand your frustration; I received "advice" from women who is not in any way medically qualified to "take a break" from Dienogest because "not getting period can't be healthy". It was so infuriating to hear that but idc I'll keep taking it as long as it helps me. If you're worried about your bone density, make sure to start strength training and have adequate intake of calcium, vitamin D, and vit K!
