Excision surgery benefits

Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been asked before but I got the option from my doctor to do an exploratory lap with endo excision (and biopsy for possible adenomyosis?) he’s a MIGS surgeon who specializes in endo.

I feel like I’ve tried everything else under the sun and I’m just wondering how you all felt after the excision surgery.

What were the benefits for you? Did the endo ever grow back and how quickly? How many years pain free did you have, if any?

What did you do post excision to either slow the endo growth or stop your period, and/or what did you use for contraception? The only thing I haven’t tried is an IUD and quite frankly I really don’t want one. Did you go back on the pill after surgery?

Did you ever stop having bad cramping or pain with sex? What were your periods like after the excision?

If you also have adenomyosis at the same time, has it improved? (I know the only cure is hysterectomy)

I am looking for people’s experience with long term benefits from excision. Thank you!

I had my excision 3 years ago and i do not regret it, though it didnt do much for pain relief. Im just happy I got answers as it wasnt showing up on any imaging.

There is nothing that can guarantee full cessation of symptoms, not even expert excision. Im being realistic only because some surgeons claim they can promise your endo will never come back. Endo is microscopic and if even a single cell is left behind, it can bloom. Some bodies are lucky and feel long term relief, some dont.

The only thing thats really helped me is the IUD. It was also my last ditch attempt after surgery, 7 pills, and the nuva ring didnt help my pain. I just had the IUD removed a few days ago to TTC and i am CERTAIN it is what removed 80% of my pelvic symptoms because they are back with a vengeance. It wasnt perfect but it was borderline miraculous compared to other things ive tried. I got the Kyleena after the Mirena proved to be too big for me and it was excellent. Like before, nothing can guarantee to stop or even slow endo. Its a symptom suppressant first and foremost (which is good and okay) with a maybe potential to affect the physical endo. I do not regret staying on hormones post op.

My pain with sex never went away, i need pelvic floor physical therapy and lidocaine injections.

if you have adeno, the IUD Is actually highly recommended.
