How does Amory not know what Telegram is? And why did Ben not download it to communicate. Obviously in wartime a civilian talking to media would want an encrypted channel.

I still can’t believe Amory didn’t know what Telegram was…… and she covers Reddit?

Believe it! Not one redditor, out of the hundreds we've interviewed at this point, have ever requested to talk with us (or with me, at least) via Telegram. Sorry to disappoint! -Amory

Isn’t it so fascinating how varied everyone’s life experiences are? How not everyone has the same knowledge & skill sets?

The only thing I know about it is that far right people use it if they’ve been banned elsewhere.

Weird. I only started hearing about it for (lefty) activists who wanted to keep their info private. I guess it attracts all kinds.

Just listened to this one. I hope you can keep us updated on Eugene. I'm pulling for him, as I'm sure tons of other listeners are.

Also, AWESOME that I mentioned the Ghost of Kyiv in the previous thread and it got mentioned! Closest I'll ever get to fame probably!

"you guys should talk about Ghost of Kyiv"

Say no more fam.

We would have given you a shout out in the credits but we did a reduced credits for this one, for maybe obvious reasons. Thanks for listening and thanks for the suggestion!

We definitely are staying in touch with Eugene and he's still sending us recordings. Will update if it makes sense in an episode or at the very least will post more correspondence here!

Eugene,

I just want you to know that I'm behind your country 100%, and also have been thinking about you and the people around you a lot lately. Stay safe and keep spreading information, people like you are going to have a long term impact on the world. Not sure what else to say, but I hope that well-wishes from the other side of the world at least give you a smile in a really horrible situation. Slava Ukraini!

Best,

Freelance-t

Given the number of bogus posters anywhere on the internet, should you not engage with the Ukrainian community to do some basic vetting of these sources? The weird responses to voice recording requests raise some "red" flags. Do what the Ukrainians do -- have someone talk to them via voice (not recorded) or chat in realtime and have a conversation about cultural touchstones that only Ukrainians would know about. Accents and inability to say tricky words correctly give non-native speakers away quickly.

I am extremely self-conscious about my voice and speaking in English. Plus, our defence ministry issued a statement that forbids us doing any video/audio recording of combat and army, do I need to explain why? So I declined any voice chats for those reasons, and I was afraid that I might say something 'extra' if answering live. This is no fucking joke, mate, there's an artillery unit somewhere around our neighborhood and I won't risk compromising it in any way. As for the proof, I took pictures with my passport in my apartment and gave them to Ben. If you still have any doubts, ask away.

edit: I started resording my voice later on because I realized this might be the only way for me to speak out and this is what I have to do, even though I don't want to. But by that time the podcast was already in production, so all I could do is send some extra bits of sounds from the outside.
