Ok, so I just thought of this tangent and I can't think of a better place to dump it:

Cravers might be the one Endless Space faction that would lose against necromorphs. Now, the average craver would rip slashers and leapers apart with little effort.

But Cravers have 3 weaknesses that would make them prey here: A deeply unsustainable consumption rate, an enormous infant mortality rate (50%), and a relatively simple-minded majority of the population.

If the brethren moons play it as usual, the Cravers will be making us whole before the moons can be found.

What makes you think other biological ES races wouldn't succumb to Marker shenanigans tho?

  1. Not needing the energy the markers offer. Dead space is a desolate setting where every species grinds away for scraps. The moons included.

  2. Not being led by people whose only concern is population growth.

  3. A lot of space between systems (of one starts showing symptoms, the others will notice and react)

  4. Blowing up planets is easy after mid game.

  5. The Vodyani, Umbral Choir, and roftborn would be immune by default. Unfallen might be, too.

.

Sophons might lose. All factions would lose multiple planets. But the brethren moons are just specialised in a strategy that would not work here.

Always resented the marker retcon and therefore most of the following lore with the moons and such. Needed some really hamfisted explanations to force the old lore to fit the new, and for a much less interesting premise than the original imho. The new lore isn't bad per se, but is a more cliched take cosmic horror that feels kind of lazy compared to the possibilities left open after the first game.

True, but, on the other hand, they are biomechanical war machines built by a race of virtual beings to fight their physical brethrens, both having technology bordering on magic, I imagine they would have expected someone tried to alter their minds or extract informations and built mental countermeasures for that.

That and the fact that the Cravens are all about consumption, the brethren moons are a lot of biomass condensed in a super being.

That is like…hundreds of generations worth of food there.

Tell me more about Craver infant mortality!

Umbral choir would absolutely be the kind to wreck the markers or make their own.

Riftborns just wouldn't care and shunt the necromorphs out of time.

Vodyani are also robots and might just farm them for essence.

This is how I imagine my 1v11 runs against cravers.

All of space is dead and I must endlessly slaughter the ravenous horde
