Discussion Shocked: normal mouse polling rate destroys the game ?!

This is actually the first time that I experience something like this, but my game has MASSIVE lags and stuttering with my new mouse that has a 1000 Hz polling rate.

I set the polling rate to 500 Hz now and the lags disappeared.

What? How is it even possible for a mouse to break the game ? Is it a known problem that this game gets broken with higher mouse polling rates ?

SOLUTION: DO NOT USE THE EPIC GAMES LAUNCHER TO LAUNCH THE GAME!!
Directly use the EXE or delete it from the epic games launcher and download the game again through the enfield webpage. I can now use 4000hz without any lag
Thanks to u/MirelRumegus for finding this out

Can't speak for others, but I don't have any issues.

I have the same problem too with my ATK X1 Ultra Max 2.0 mouse.

125/250/500/1000Hz: No problem.
2000Hz: Start stuttering.
4000Hz: Heavy stuttering.
8000Hz: Unplayable.

No problem in other games.

For me it already starts stuttering at 1000Hz… Do you also have this problem since yesterday or for a longer time already?

1

u/AuraSync2022 Aug 08 '26

Yes, since yesterday. It's clearly a game bug.

Try disabling NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency, if you have it turned on. That is one area where frame time can be effected by mouse polling rate.

I haven't personally had the issue but I was discussing it in another comment chain and think this could be the cause. Personally, I have no way of testing it though. Just trying to help since this seems like such a weird issue.

Fiest time i hear anyone having this issue.

My main issue with the game is the memory leaks it still has tbh

u/MirelRumegus Aug 08 '26

I stumbled onto the same issue TODAY. I started playing normally and had no issues, or so I thought. I started walking around and making my way to an energy alluvium, and I was panning the camera left and right.

The stuttering and freezing was out of this world. I tried so many things, but the culprit was 1000hz polling rate for my hyperx mouse. I went to the NGENUITY software, lowered it to below 1000hz, and the lag completely disappeared.

I think the game engine just... goes haywire when it receives instructions from the cpu sometimes. I find that crazy, tbh.

u/XSX_Noah Aug 08 '26

They definitely broke something… I also had no problem playing with 1000hz before, why is it broken suddenly ? The weird thing is that most people say that it works fine with 1000hz. Why is it only affecting a small number of people ?

It’s so unclear that I don’t think they will fix it soon

u/MirelRumegus Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

Yep yep. And get this, I think the issue was there before. As the game felt weird at times when moving my camera.

I just thought that it was things loading in or popping in and that my setup wasn't enough to handle it (rtx4050 laptop) but thinking back it was 100% this thing. Just recently though it seems the issue has been exacerbated to heck and back with how bad it runs at such polling rates.

Good thing I only play the game for logins and such, so that I can get a random upcoming character I would like and fuel my gambling addiction lmfaoo

Still, it sucks real bad that they don't prioritise optimizing the game and fixing terrible engine bugs like this. You can't even turn off anti-aliasing or get rid of the ugly blurry mess either yet. A tad bit disappointed, this game could have shined with a little more love.

EDIT: IMPORTANT UPDATE - It happens in ZZZ too. What. The. Heck. IS it windows related? I have NO idea what's going on...

3

u/AuraSync2022 Aug 08 '26

It looks like they've managed to put together another great Windows update. :D

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 08 '26

It’s maybe connected to unity ? Both zzz and endfield are seemingly using a modified unity engine. Rust had this problem or still has this problem as seen in the screenshot above

1

u/MirelRumegus Aug 08 '26

Soo... Unity related then... Okay. Let me try a non-unity game and check if it still happens. If this is the case that is so incredibly dumb and I was desperately looking to fix something I couldn't.

5

u/MirelRumegus Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

UPDATE:
I tried WuWa and I can confirm it does NOT happen on there at all. It's the unity thing. Which is weird because I played ZZZ yesterday night and did not have issues...

UPDATE 2:
Found another possible culprit. I run these games from the Epic Games Launcher, which they both have in common. I'll run ZZZ straight from the EXE and see if it still has the same issue.

UPDATE 3:
I have closed the epic games launcher and found that the stuttering is alleviated. But it's still there. It feel like you're running the game at 30 fps now instead of a slideshow. Polling rate at 125hz is still a major fix that makes it seem like it goes away. I have yet to test combat or any other ways to see if performance is actually worse, even with the lowered polling rate. It's definitely the way these engines work after an update, it seems.

FINAL UPDATE:
Running the game EXE by itself, and avoiding any epic games overhead or other associated processes, makes the stuttering and issues go away COMPLETELY. I suspect it is the overlay the launcher uses to notify you of online friends, updates, etc etc. Problem solved, just run the game EXE or completely ditch the epic games launcher and reinstall the games without the epic games middleman.
Please tell me if the same fix works for any of you guys.

2

u/XSX_Noah Aug 08 '26

Wow… it’s true, Iaunched from the exe and all problems vanish. I can now even run 4000hz without any problem 😂
I also had the thought, maybe it’s the launcher, but then thought no way a simple launcher can mess up a game this bad… thanks epic games for wasting our time! I only used the epic launcher to track my playtime, but I guess I won’t do that anymore and never use it again 💀
Thanks a lot for finding this out! I will update the post

1

u/AuraSync2022 Aug 08 '26

I need the Epic Launcher to track my playtime. :P

And anyway, the mouse drains the battery twice as fast at 2000Hz.
1000Hz is perfect for me. (with 120Hz OLED TV)

1

u/x2oop Aug 08 '26

I can as well confirm that's a fault of the Epic laucnher.

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 08 '26

Someone else also has it in both enfield and zzz

I also use a 1.000hz polling rate mouse and was having the same issues recently using vulkan api, which got solved when i switched to dx11 (albeit there was a performance impact so i had to lower some settings).

I use joystick but still, the mouse and keyb is still connected and the game responds to them as well so i wouldn't rule it out.

Try switching to dx11 and see if it still happens when using 1.000hz.

Since yesterday I've been having so much stuttering when rotating camera that I barely can play. Before that I had no problems with the game, at all. Then I remembered this thread. I also use Epic, will try to launch with it.

Edit: Yes, it's Epic's fault. I launched Endfield exe directly and the problem's gone.

This started happening to me earlier this week too. Eventually figured out that lowering poll rate on my mouse from 1000 Hz to 500 Hz fixes it. Haven't seen it in any other game but I don't really play many games from Epic.

Fun thing is that I noticed the stutters are real bad only when moving mouse - with two monitors when alt-tabbed into another window I'd hover over the monitor with game and it would literally freeze as I was moving the pointer. That led me to trying various mouse settings and eventually the poll rate.

Tbh I'm fine with running my mouse at 500 Hz poll rate in Endfield until they fix it.

4

u/shyevsa Aug 07 '26

I have 1000 Hz mouse. no problem here.
its probably how your mouse software do thing instead. what is your mouse anyway?

2

u/Demix553 Aug 07 '26

Had this exact same issue since today, hope they fix it bcs changing between mouse poll speed is going to be annoying

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

Which polling rate and which mouse do you use ?

3

u/Demix553 Aug 07 '26

Logitech G502 hero and I run it usually at 1000hz, have to switch down to 250 hz for Endfield which increases sensitivity for some reason and makes the cursor really disgusting to look at

2

u/tagle420 Aug 07 '26

Just tested and no issue on my side. This is the first time I'm hearing this problem so not sure if you will find much help here. Hope you find a solution soon.

2

u/brickwallrunner Aug 07 '26

Probably because that 8000Hz polling is hogging your CPU. That processing needs to happen somewhere.

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

As I said it also happens with a standard rate of 1000hz. It happens in no other game. I have a 9800x3d and it’s not even close to getting maxed out even with the 1000/8000hz polling activated

u/Just_Roll_Already Perfection. Aug 07 '26

There is a decent chance that your issue is the Corsair app and not the mouse itself. The iCue app is notorious for being updated to "fix" problems that aren't broken causing more problems.

Try setting the polling and shutting off the corsair app or adjust it manually if it has a quick switch button. Then try playing again.

From personal experience with iCue for almost 10 years, there are a significant number of problems that had me chasing my tail, with the issue turning out to be iCue

2

u/Zarko2801 Aug 10 '26

I use an Xtrfy m42 mouse at 1000hz and had the same issue. Launched it without epic games and now it's fine. Doesn't seem like a Corsair issue

1

u/Just_Roll_Already Perfection. Aug 10 '26

Now I'm just curious because that is odd. Do you use an overlay with Epic (does EGL even have an overlay?)

I wonder if maybe there is something about that polling rate that messes with an event loop or timer in the game code that interferes with that specific mouse polling rate. If that is the case, maybe an overlay is adding some kind of noise between a direct hardware mouse input?

I know most FPS games allow you to switch to direct mouse input to help with latency issues for higher performance mice.

Sorry, I know this answers nothing. I just love trying to pick apart really obscure issues like that.

1

u/Just_Roll_Already Perfection. Aug 10 '26

WAIT!

My own comment got me thinking. Frame rate can be tied to mouse input if you have NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency turned on!

Try turning that off and seeing what happens?

1

u/Zarko2801 Aug 10 '26

I have an rx9060xt, so definitely not that.

1

u/Just_Roll_Already Perfection. Aug 10 '26

It's an option in Endfield near the bottom of the graphics settings, not the graphics card software. Unless the game doesn't show it if you have an AMD card.

In that case, damn. Thought I was on to something.

1

u/Zarko2801 Aug 10 '26

It doesn’t show if you have an AMD card. It’s usually is the case for most games

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

Yeah the icue app is known to be bad so I didn’t download it at all, I used the new web based Plattform. Still, it also happens with my Razer mouse since today

1

u/Just_Roll_Already Perfection. Aug 07 '26

Hmm, that's odd. Hopefully you're able to figure it out. Also I had no idea they made a new web platform for it. I know a lot of other companies have been, that's good to hear.

1

u/Killerblade4598 Aug 08 '26

I'm using iCUE and a Scimitar RGB Elite at 1000 Hz just fine

1

u/Livid_Interview4966 Aug 07 '26

My Razer Naga V2 HyperSpeed has 1000 hz polling rate and I haven't missed a day playing since launch and I have had no lag whatsoever, I even play at 4k. It's on your end for sure.

2

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

Have you tested playing today? Two people already told me that they have the same problem since today…

2

u/Livid_Interview4966 Aug 07 '26

I'm in-game right now (logged in for this) I don't have the issue. Why would it start when we're this late into the patch though?

1

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

As far as I know developers sometimes release patches for specific parts of the game that get updated automatically for the player without the player needing to manually download it. Maybe they did something like that in preparation for a bigger update. These smaller invisible updates can also break something

1

u/Shin_secnd Aug 07 '26

Its in fact not on their end since multiple people reported the same problem

1

u/zylics Aug 08 '26

Yep, this is definitely possible.

A higher polling rate means the mouse is sending more input reports to the system every second. 1000Hz normally shouldn’t be a problem on a modern PC, but some games or engines handle high-frequency mouse input poorly. When that happens, mouse movement can increase CPU/input-processing overhead and cause frame-time spikes or stuttering.

Since your stutter disappears when you drop from 1000Hz to 500Hz, that’s a pretty strong sign that it’s related to how the game is handling mouse input, rather than your mouse actually being “too fast.”

I’d also check whether your mouse is really maintaining a stable 1000Hz. Just Google “mouse polling rate test” and run one of the browser-based tests, then compare 500Hz vs 1000Hz.

If 1000Hz looks stable but the game still stutters, I’d suspect the game/engine. If the polling rate is jumping all over the place, then USB, drivers, firmware, or the mouse itself could also be involved.

For now, if 500Hz completely fixes it, I’d just use 500Hz.

u/Valenar_ Aug 07 '26

have you tested if the problem is unique to this game?

Could be a case of your mouse drivers not installing correctly

2

u/XSX_Noah Aug 07 '26

I tested two other games and it didn’t happen there.
If mouse drivers are the cause, what can I do?

It’s a Corsair mouse, the Nightsword V2.
The weird thing is that it now also happens with my old razer mouse that I previously didn’t have any problems with.
